  1. Just looks like a lefty/righty thing. Arroyo's a mediocre righty and the Reds top relievers are Marshall and Chapman, both lefties Maybe Sveum's saving his righties for later.
  2. Crap, I thought that the awful Iowa start last night belonged to Jackson, not Wood. At least we got some nice offensive games from some of our better hitters in Rizzo, Cardenas, Szczur, DeVoss, and Silva. Also good games by Beliveau and Batista. It would be great to be able to piece together a future bullpen from within and use our resources for bigger needs.
  3. First half of (14 games): @Reds(3), Dodgers(3), Braves(3), @Brewers(3), @cardinals(2) Second half of (14 games): Phils(2), White Sox(3), @Astros(3), @Pirates(3), Padres(3) First 14 look pretty brutal. Latter half should be more manageable. Cubs would have to go 18-10 in May to break 0.500. My (optimistic) prediction: 15-13, putting us at 0.451. There really is no "class of the NL" this season. The Dodgers have been somewhat of a one man gang with Kemp and the Nats are off to a nice start, but there really are no teams in the NL that make me think "oh crap, them". Sure would have been a good year to be good.
  4. only CC can answer that question. seriously though, The Cubs probably have similar chance to any team willing to spend the money. The Red Sox, Yankees, Dodgers, Rangers, Mariners, and every other team with money is going to have interest. There's no reason for the Cubs not to be in the mix as well. A lot of people seem to think that since we didn't make a serious move for Fielder or Pujols we're not going to spend money ever again. We didn't put together a front office dream team to play poker and turn The Cubs into the Padres.
  5. Did we take Wieters in the first round in that alternate universe? Yep and everyone's pissed it took him 4/5 years to have a 4 WAR season in the MLB considering his hype. Too bad. I was hoping that the Rays passed on Price for financial reasons.
  6. Much like last time, when the Cubs are ready to win again, everyone is going to want to be a part of it. Especially if they're offered lots of money.
  7. That's a hell of a line for Baez considering the slump he went through. Does't seem to walk much though. Also, as nice as Candelerios line looks he doesn't seem to be taking many walks which was what really made him stand out last season even more so than the slugging.
  8. Considering we usually beat Halladay, we missed Hamels, Lee's on the DL and their offense is putrid, it's really not as surprising as you'd think.
  9. Assuming we extend Garza, our 3 top trade chips would be Soto, Marmol, and Dempster, and one's been awful, one beyond awful and the 3rd great but injured. We might just be better off trying to contend.
  10. I'd love to see LaHair logging innings in LF sooner than later.
  11. Had he held off of the extension, he could have ended up with a 10/250 deal especially considering his age and position.
  12. Felix Pie was working the concession stand.
  13. Yes, I'm rather sure he will not. David Freese OPS - .955 Albert Pujols OPS - .592 I was wrong, I should of said better ;) Bryan LaHair OPS - 1.138, and he's just entering his first full season. Bow down, resistance is futile.
  14. He had no hitter through three. And that was the moment
  15. For a moment there I'd almost forgotten that Randy Wells was bad.
  16. At least he comes off as less crazy than Steve Carlton.
  17. It saddens me that we must feel ashamed of liking certain players. I say let your flag fly. He's small, he's gritty, and dammit it he's an OK baseball player that could end up being a Juan Pierre or at least a Rajai Davis.
  18. I suppose Randy Wells could, but all the running back and forth would be tiring.
  19. So who catches if Castillo gets a hammy? Probably Soto. I'm pretty sure Jeff Bakers been dubbed the emergency catcher in the past, though I don't think it ever came down to it.
  20. If it was 5 mil and a respectable prospect or 2 we should have took it and ran. Didn't they say at one point that they'd be willing to eat 90% of the salary?
  21. A truely unfortunate series of events for a guy entering free agency with spotty at best record on and off the field.
