  1. It was exactly 3 hours ago that I joked about getting a 28 year old minor league loogy for Marlon Byrd.
  2. I really hope Demp misses the minimum. He's a valuable trade chip if we can get him back within a month and then he can give us another month I quality.
  3. KGold with the preemptive dismissiveness. When you're guy has a .071 BA and a .149 OPS you ain't getting a blue chipper.
  4. I can't help but notice that Braun is currently hitting .245/.316/.388/.704 with 1HR. It seems to me as though he might have a history of being a slow starter, but if he doesn't pick things up soon, it won't look good for him or MLB.
  5. He's in Peoria doing quite well for himself. 11 IP, 1 BB 9 K 0.971 WHIP.
  6. It's difficult to imagine just how dreadful a team would be with Ramirez pitching, and Ramirez at every defensive position. Plus they'd be too lazy to field Team Theriots constant dribblers to 2B and next thing you know they'd be down 11-0 in the 3rd.
  7. Someday you'll realize the gift you're being given. I don't agree with a lot of what those 2 say, but they're pretty amusing at times. Half the time it's more of a sports themed comedy show than a legit sports talk show, especially when both teams are bad.
  8. I've noticed that Blake Parker has kept his walks down this year, which in the past has been his main issue. I'm not sure if he's had any others as well. He's always had a pretty high K rate. Maybe if they finally get sick of Lendy Castillo walking every other batter or Sean Camp being old and bad he'll finally get a call. It's been long enough and it's not like we're loaded with options, thus Scott Maine replacing Kerry Wood.
  9. He had 150 PA's in 2008 so I don't know if that makes that his rookie season technically. Sam Jethroe won the award when he was 32 though. While Jethroe did play several seasons in the Negro Leagues before his "rookie year", looking over his short big league career, it's kind if interesting how his career seems similar to guys like Ludwick and McGehee who had a breakout at an older age. He had 1 more good season The following year, then took a significant dip the next and then was essentially out of the league.
  10. If LaHair were to win the NL ROY, would that make him the oldest ever? He is eligible, right?
  11. Didn't we have him at one point?
  12. I had hopes that he'd join Mark Prior, Kerry Wood, Juan Cruz, and Carlos Zambrano in one of the greatest rotations in the history of the game.
  13. He put on a hat with a little bear on it. Seriously, he's 19 years old and 5'9 140lbs. I think he's toward the bottom of the list of things to worry about.
  14. Are we talking more than Rizzo and Jackson amongst that several? For comparison's sake, I'm not sure you can expect Rizzo to do any better than what LaHair has done to date. On the other hand, Jackson could probably start hitting right handed and do a better job than Byrd has. Perhaps LaHair could do LF, maybe platoon with Soriano. Rizzo could have 1st. Some combination of Castillo and Clevenger would be an upgrade over what Soto has done this year. Cardenas or Valbuena certainly couldn't be much worse than DeWitt, nor could Sappelt than Mather or Johsnon, despite Sappelts slow start in Iowa. The trouble is, they were likely banking on guys like Byrd, Soto, and to a lesser extent Baker and Johnson to at least come somewhere close to their norms in hopes that they could get some value out of them through trade. The one who has been looking like he could really bring back something is Dempster, and he might end up on the DL.
  15. You're not kidding. That bastard has no luck. And Chase Headley is hitting .292/.435/.646 with 4 HR despite playing for the 1 team putting up a legit fight in the fecal league. Luckily, we have 2 MVP candidates in Marlon Byrd and Geovany Soto. What did the Pads want for Headley again, or did the talks ever get that far?
  16. Those who are willing to pay top dollar for ticket prices to see an awful team play in equally awful weather. And dump beer on opposing outfielders. Duh.
  17. The Giants apparently hate Brandon Belt for some unknown reason, so we'll take him for Marmol and flip him to some team for a nice SP prospect. Sounds good. Can't he play outfield? He's split most of his time between 1B and LF. We could certainly use an LF, but he'll surely cost more than Marmol alone, assuming they have any interest in trading him.
  18. This is usually what stage 1 of a rebuild looks like. Yeah, it's not fun to watch or even follow via gameday but if this is still happening in 2014 than we can complain about the rebuild strategy.
  19. Are they just ignoring the fact that Travis Wood is a better pitcher than Randy Wells?
  20. I didn't want to bring this up at the risk of being accused of overreacting, which I'm by no means doing , but I've noticed that aside from Rizzo, Castillo, Cardenas, and Valbuena the Iowa bats have cooled off. It's just a small sample, but over the last 10 days, Jackson has had a sub .200 BA despite an OPS in the mid .700s. Vitters, on the other hand has kept his average up, but had an OPS in the mid-high .600s. Sappelt's actually been picking up a bit lately with a .257/.742 over the last 10. Burgess has cooled off as well. A lot of guys in the lower levels, such as Szczur, Torryes, Ha, Hernandez, and Golden have really struggled as well.
  21. It's a parallel as far as I'm concerned, but the real question is what is Wells doing at Wrigley? Could their be an injury to a starter.
  22. Hopefully he gets only slightly less hammered by big league hitters than PCL guys. God forbid they called up a reliever to replace a reliever.
  23. Even if we're not contenders in 2-3 years none of those guys are on the team.
