  1. There should be no shortage of available 40 man spots by then, though I'm not sure who else we need to think about protecting for next year.
  2. So far, the Orioles have allowed Ryan Flaherty 4 PA, in which he's 0-4 with 3 K. At this rate, he's pretty much wasting a roster spot so it might not be too long before they either send him back to us or strike a deal to keep him.
  3. Burkes young pitching career is off to a great start, so maybe they want to see if they can get more than a loogy out of it. He is 24, so it would be nice to see him get a stint at at least AA before the end of the season.
  4. The Cardinals don't need any of them when they have
  5. That's kind of big. I know a lot of people around here don't like him, but if the Braves are interested, I'd certainly take a chance depending in what they'd want in return.
  6. Lies! A 12-pitch LaHair walk is a rare thing. It's like spotting the Loch Ness Monster with a winning lottery ticket in its mouth as you get struck by lightning. Savor it! I live amongst their fans, trust me, it won't be a problem. I get to talk a little trash tomorrow. Wont that be like the janitor winning a $10 scratch off ticket and rubbing in the face of the nearest exec he can find as he gets into his Audi while trying to avoid making eye contact?
  7. A sparkly green low rider El Camino with those gold rims that spin.
  8. We don't need to rip anyone off. Just get fair value.
  9. It depends on how badly you need the car and the salesmans urgency to get rid of it. The car (Soto) is costing us more money than it's worth and we need to cut our losses. Do we take a resonable offer and move him/it or roll the dice and keep him/it? And how is this car costing us?

  11. Lol. The overwhelming Cub fan reaction to that trade...from what I read because I wasn't overly involved in the thread here...was atrocious. Never have I seen so much outrage over losing a few mid-20's bench options. It convinced me that prospects, as valuable as they are, can be ridiculously overvalued and smart FOs with money can take advantage of that. Here we see it in the case of Alex Torres being way too much for a 28 year old starting C who can it. Soto is 29 People were a bit apprehensive about giving up Archer, and we pretty much expected that Lee would be part of the deal. I don't think that there was much fuss put up at all over Chirinos, Fuld, or Guyer, especially considering that we walked out if it with a few extra pieces.
  12. Alex Torres + something right? I like Torres, but I'd hope for more with Soto. We are talking about a starting C who can hit... Give me Davis+Cobb+low level guy and we'll throw in either a big league or big league ready spare part or a fringe prospect.
  13. I don't consider Soto to be a centerpiece of the franchise that must be extended into his mid thirties, but now is just an awful time to deal him. Why not see if he can regress to near his career average performance by mid-june, and then start working the phones? The Rays have been actively seeking a catcher since ST. While Friedman isn't going to over pay for anyone, he's a smart enough GM and has enough respect for Epstein to know that if he is going to get Soto he'll have to make an offer based on at least his 2011 value rather than the first 3 weeks if the 2012 season.
  14. Pedro Mart.....nope...Mike Mus...Nope (Damn you Carl Everett!)...Andres Galla-DAMMIT.... I had no idea Andres Galarraga became a pitcher, probably because he didn't. Armando Galarraga though, that was really too bad. Harvey Haddix should be on the list as well. Despite eventually losing in extras, he actually pitched 12 perfect innings before losing 1-0 in the 13th. Probably the best game ever pitched.
  15. I was going to say you have no idea what you're babbling about, but it actually makes sense if one understands dave-speak. Once again, there is no in-between for him: if you don't think Soto is hopelessly horrible, you apparently have "unconditional love" for him because he's a "goldenboy." Sprinkle in some nonsensical gibberish inexplicably pitting Soto against LaHair and you've got a spectacular davearm2 masterpiece. More importantly, even if Soto does ultimately stabilize at where he ended up last season, he's still around a 2.0 WAR player. Unless he's been taking a 2nd banned substance over the past few years, it's simply not reasonable to expect him to completely fall off a cliff at his age.
  16. Sweet. Pretty interested to see how Batista does up there. Hopefully he can get a taste of the big leagues this year. Definitely interesting. He was very good last year. There should be several bullpen spots open next year if not by the end of this season and Batista, Parker, Rhoderick, and Cabrera should all be interesting options as well as Beliveau of course.
  17. Right, why else would he be at Santo's funeral? Reading the thread from bottom to top, I didn't quite get what the funeral comment was supposed to mean, but wow, that's low. Have to give it points for dark humor though. Come to think about it, it's been a while since I've had a sig.
  18. I'm not seeing any unconditional love. Just the fact that we've just sold one guy at his lowest possible value so it's of no benefit to us to do so with another guy, especially one under team control for a few more years. We're not going to win this season so it really can't hurt to at least give him until July to boost his value. Clevenger's done a good job, but I can't see him as more than a backup catcher in the long run.
  19. Looking over the 5 starters throughout the league, we really should have shopped him more agressively during the offseason. Maybe we could have gotten something similar to the Gorzo return. Now if we're lucky we'll get something like the Kosuke return if someone's desperate enough.
  20. It's just a christmas story quote I don't know. Have you seen his yellow eyes? So help me God, he has yellow eyes. and what's a christmas story?
  21. Matt Szczur has officially crossed the Mendiza Line, or at least he'd standing on it at an even .200. Oliver Zapata has certainly been a bright spot in the ocean of blah at best that has been the hitters of the lower levels thus far.
  22. In our world, you're either Nuts & Gum, a toady, or one of the nameless rabble of victims.
  23. Being mediocre in Iowa :( Which is why they should have called him up instead of the guy who was downright brutal in Iowa.
