  1. That's the problem with today's long term contracts. Back in the 80's, the shorter term contracts were motivation for these guys to play well and earn their next fix. How else do you explain Eric Davis' improbable comeback in his mid 30's? Ryne Sandberg signed one of those shorter term contracts and he just up and quit. I bet if he had a drug habit to support he wouldn't have.
  2. That's only because everyone in the world except for Jerry Reinsdorf hates Hawk Harrelson.

  4. And there's this @Rotoworld_BB: Jon Jay (shoulder) headed to disabled list http://t.co/el5fulXJ
  5. @PWSullivan: Cubs sign ex-sox reliever MacDougal to minor league deal. Can't find anything else, but I'll assume it's Mike MacDougal. It's been a while since Jed and Theo scraped a carcass off the road.
  6. Junior Lake already with a single and a 2 run double. As they say in NBA Jam, He's heating up.
  7. Tied or down by a run, 0-1 out man on 1st or 2nd Darwin Barney or Tony Campana at the plate, bunt good. Trying to start a rally with the heart of the lineup coming up, bunt bad.
  8. Say what you will about the Cardinals luck, but how the hell are the Mets as good as they are? They're in 3rd, but they're at .571 WP. These guys have to come crashing down to earth soon, no?
  9. lol, since Mark Grace. Starlin [expletive] careers like Mark Grace's in prison. Try Ernie Banks. You were either drunk when you posted this or you lack communication skills. I'm guessing you're a Sox fan. Well crap. I'd have banned him 37,500 posts ago if I'd realized that! I'm still getting over the shock of learning that Starlin Castro is not Vladamir Guerrero. I thought that it was like a Nyjer Morgan/T. Plush type of thing.
  10. And then his manager told him to get back to stocking those cereal boxes.
  11. There are three teams in the West with worse records than anyone in the Central. Don't forget the AL Central. The only reason some of these teams' records are as good as they are is because they play each other.
  12. Good:Great pitching all around. Bad: Brett Jackson is making me quite sad. I don't know what to think anymore: Josh Vitters.
  13. I feel the same way about Camp coming out of the bullpen. As pointless as we all felt that the signing of Camp was at the time, he's the one right handed reliever with whom I feel that a lead of under 5 runs is safe. And when the time comes, if someone sends us one of their top 30 prospects for him, the signing will have been worthwhile.
  14. Was it about GRINDERS? I think it was the one about Mike Caruso's 2 run homer in a game at Wrigley. I think the Sox swept that series. Nah, some walk off grand slam by Ventura. Then how he cares about fundamentals and playing the game the right away, and omg kill me. Wut color do the good guys wear? The worst ever were the cardboard sign ones. I was truely embarrassed for Nick Swisher.
  15. Very well, but no more bunting. For every but you attempt, I shall kill you.
  16. Not in play, reed johnson suck(s) And Dempsters winless streak lives on.
  17. Great game for Lake, McNutt, Ha, and the game's less relevant participants.
  18. Sounds about right. However, as I've said before I wouldn't be opposed to re-upping Dempster on a team friendly deal and trading Maholm and/or Wood. If we trade one, the other is the 5th starter. If both, someone like Rusin, Coleman, or Volstad is the 5th.
  19. visiting sulley? Oh God, Fond du Lac. What an awful place. It's right up down there with Plymouth and Sheboygan. At least Plymouth is right next to Road America. Which makes it even more of a magnet for mullets and Schlitz.
  20. His curve and change both have the potential to be plus pitches. It would be niceto be able to put the back end of our rotation from within and just sign a front end guy to go with Garza and Shark. Rusin and Wood seem like they could be it for next year with McNutt, Beeler, Struck, and Rhee as options futher down the road.

  22. I guess there's also the question of how many available spots there will be and what they plan to do with them. I think there are 1-2 open at this time, and Johnson, Baker, Mather, Maine, Lendy, Camp, and Wells are some guys I can think of off the top of my head that will or could be removed by then. There's also Dempster, but if he leaves I'd like to think he'd be replaced by a comparable SP.
  23. I think if Rusin keeps this up and reaches his ceiling, he would make an average to above average 5th starter. Is that too excited? I think it's reasonable. Much like the tag "4th outfielder", fans don't want to hear that about a prospect they like, but big league 4-5 starters and 4th outfielders aren't too easy to come by. I don't think that anyone would expect Rusin to be a 2-3 guy, but a 5th starter in a decent rotation or a 4th in a so-so isnt out of the question.
  24. Rizzo. 3/4 2 2B Rusin 8 IP 5 H 0 R 2/7 BB/K Some other guys played as well.
  25. Chris Rusin is looking awfully tempting as if late. In fact as unimpressive as T. Wood's been, I'd kind of like to see him get a call up in September or next time the need arrises.
