  1. The thing about the Bears not mattering (in Chicago) and stuff was weird. Couldn't be more wrong. Yeah, maybe I'm wrong, but I think if you polled people that actually lived in the City of Chicago, the Bears would be number 1 out of all sports teams. Yeah, Chicago is overwhelmingly a Bears town. Any idiot knows that. Most cities with pro football teams worship those teams above all others, even the really bad ones. It does vary. NY has a dozen teams, but it is a Yankees town first and foremost. Boston has to be a Red Sox town. Miami? Nobody goes to Dolphins games, and while it has to be short lived they would be a Heat town, no? Atlanta is a nothing town. Chicago, Minnesota, Denver, Pittsburgh, Philly, Dallas (although I don't know how the local versus national thing works), Houston (it's Texas, got to be football) and DC are all football heavy. San Fran is probably 49ers, but the Giants are a big deal. Phoenix is nothing. Detroit could be the Lions if they weren't a pointless franchise and may actually be the lone NHL-centric town in the US.
  2. He probably could, but since he already has the power, there may not be much value to that. And it could detract from his defense.
  3. That was a very catchable liner, not a grounder.
  4. Daytona Cubs ‏@daytonacubs 10m 5-0 W game 1 - G2 Lineup - CF DeVoss RF Chen DH Geiger 1B Vogelbach 3B Bryant LF Giansanti 2B Darvill SS Soto C Cabezas RHP Wang
  5. It's fair to include guys who missed most of the season among the group that didn't have good seasons. Staying healthy is part of the process of developing.
  6. The prospect pundits are always a bit behind. They are going to be really blown away when they sit down in the offseason to catch up on all the systems and they see how well the Cubs did this year in terms of development. So many guys had good years. I'm having trouble thinking of important prospects who didn't. Maybe Soler? Him, and the one guy who hasn't pitched but was a top ten guy.
  7. I freaking started the concept of the message board farm report back in the day.
  8. Robinson Cano was pretty worthless one year.
  9. If you mean the uncomfortable comment, I don't think it was anything. More like a combination of tiring and sweating profusely in the heat, late in the game. They pulled him after his 7th K.
  10. My feed died but Vogelbach reached base and is now on 3rd. and he scores on a sac fly
  11. Pierce Johnson starts out the 6th a little wild, and the announcers claim he's looking uncomfortable. They are pulling him after 5 2/3 with 7k and I think 3bb.
  12. aggressive baseball almost leads to linedrive double play, runners were going but bad throw saves 2 on 1 out situation. Turning the lineup over guarantees Vogelbach will get another PA in this shortened game.
  13. Thru 5 shutout innings I think he's around 6 k's now. 6k/2bb/3h
  14. apparently he was saved by some weird grounds rule where there is a chalked out "out of play" area that the catcher was standing in when he caught a foul pop up.
  15. Vogelbach is back at the plate with a man on 3rd. Deep to center, homerun
  16. It would have to be an injury settlement, given his concussion. But I do think he may not be around much this year.
  17. I see a reference to him batting 5th in game 2.
  18. Daytona Cubs ‏@daytonacubs 48m @juiceboxjerry It is possible that he'll be available for game two. His flight arrived later than Vogelbach's.
  19. I think most on here reasonably expect Bryant to get to AA at some point next year but I doubt many others, if any at all, expect him to see any time above that. I don't think any of us expect his "clock to start" until sometime in 2015 and I think there's a decent chance he will still be have rookie status in 2016 (which is the first year I expect him to see significant time/start the season out of ST with the team). I could easily see him not only start in AA, but get a promotion to AAA next season, and spend a significant amount of time with the big team in 2015.
  20. jesus that sounds tedious
  21. Huh? A quick promotion to MLB might not be in the organization's best interests. But a promotion that doesn't start the service time "clock" would not conflict with that. I don't think many people think he's going to start next year in the majors.
