  1. I think less fun than you think. I don't think there's that many guys who are awesome hitters but can't field. The average AL OPS this year was 724, and the average for DH only was 725. There were already seven teams with an OPS below 700 in the AL. Adding 15 more isn't going to suddenly mean 15 more good hitters. fair enough, but "good hitter" is relative. you're replacing a bunch of uncoordinated stiffs with competent major league hitters. Sure, it's going to make a difference. The 9 spot in the AL hit 633 while the NL was 462. The overall went from 724 to 703. The spread has pretty consistently been 12-24 points of OPS overall. It will make a difference. But we aren't going to see a generation of David Ortiz clones stepping to the plate.

  3. I'm almost exactly like you but with a willingness to explore the "modified" version.
  4. They started with quite a few off days. They've been on a mostly "every other day" schedule since though. This is, I think, the second back-to-back of the season. I'm gonna be watching the Bulls tonight though, and just checking in on the Hawks. Only five teams have played more games, while 11 have played less. After tonight they have three off days then start a pattern of Sat/Sun/(insert weekday) for three weeks, and when that ends, they play every other day for 14 days, and that ends with another back to back. 15 games in 30 days in November.
  5. I can see a theoretical argument in defense of one person believing that, but I don't know how conventional wisdom could hold that opinion.
  6. Yup. Merriweather is a dirty douche but he pretty much owned Marshall there. He hardly "owned" him. No, he owned him. Basically, Marshall opens himself to that any time he publicly criticizes anyone else for the rest of his life. He opened himself up for criticism but was not "owned". That's such a silly word to use there. Merriweather is scum. He's a repeat offending piece of trash who has shown no signs of even admitting what he does it wrong. Marshall is a mentally ill individual with a checkered past who appears to have worked really hard to right the wrongs of his life. There was no "owning", just some completely irrelevant deflecting when a scumbag got in trouble again.

  8. so this is dcvalpo making funnies?
  9. Well, to be fair, it is (seemingly, at least) much harder to be and stay a healthy major league starting pitcher than it is to be an everyday position player. At a baseline yes, but with the two players in question, one hasn't had any injury problems at all, and the other has missed like 70 games in 1.5 years with a couple different injuries. And yet, the pitcher who hasn't had any injury problems at all just hasn't had his injury yet.
  10. How much are you thinking they are buying? I have no idea; I'm guessing whichever ones would be blocked/obstructed by their planned renovation and likely would sue. Isn't that most of them? I would think they could maybe buy 2 and completely change the scenario. There's no point in buying the ones down the lines, let them die a natural death and when the current agreement is up you can build out more in front of the hold outs.

  12. Huh huh, no idea why they are holding him, huh huh.
  13. I'll guess it opens GB -10.5, could see it getting up to 12-13 by game time Brad Biggs ‏@BradBiggs 17m #Packers open as a 7.5-point favorite over #Bears for next Monday's game at Lambeau Field at LVH per my man on the Strip @JoeFortenbaugh $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Weird, I see 11.
  14. Just because it's kind of fun to bitch & moan about your teams. There's no real point. It's more fun to enjoy a 2-time recent champ without getting annoyed at meaningless points missed.
  15. And only 4 non-shootout victories. Call me crazy but I find it difficult to get annoyed at the Blackhawks just yet.
  16. Except for the whole impossibility of it.
  17. I know a lot of us feel like we could quit on the team sometimes, but I think most know that they never actually could. Short of it being revealed that the Cubs were facilitating some kind of heinous human trafficking/exploitation operation or affiliating themselves with a hate group or some such thing, I don't see any way I could just stop being a Cubs fan. I wouldn't be so sure of that. People's life situations change all the time. And especially as people age they tend to care less about a pro sports team. On the whole you aren't going to see a mass exodus of fans. But I could easily see people just stop caring/paying attention. It happens every season on a smaller scale, why couldn't it happen over a longer term? And I wouldn't just assume somebody "wasn't much of a fan" if they ever did stop caring.
  18. I can't see the city helping the Cubs move from one part of the city to another part of the city (because that would hurt a larger amount of people than it helps) and I can't imagine Reinsdorf ignoring the Cubs moving 2 miles away.
  19. he also can't hit lefties or rights
  20. Care to give me a google map link of the location? I'm not too familiar with the area. Just west of Soldier Field I'm guessing.
