  1. Is there a typo there?
  2. There's got to be some kind of north/North the poster joke/pun that can be made there I tried and had nothing.
  3. Kyle is going to be so impressed when he doesn't go north.
  4. If the cubs actually managed to win 81 games and not roll over for their opponents it wouldn't be so easy for the rest of the central to win 90.
  5. Gretzky was never going to get you anything.
  6. It's not really hand wringing as much as just the guy I'm least comfortable with.
  7. Patrick Mannelly ‏@PatrickMannelly 37m I guess we are a football school now. #Duke
  8. I got hit in the helmet a couple times but never the face, although I saw more than one ugly situation. The worst was a runner/1B collision at first base that involved the runner's teeth and the 1B's head.
  9. higher than it should be but no way it's above 60%.
  10. We aren't talking about a black/white situation. It's marginal setbacks that can incrementally harm a player's ultimate productivity.
  11. Yeah I'm not sure what he's saying there. Is he saying that Bickell has a knee injury now? or he had one? Bickell had a knee injury earlier.
  12. Shouldn't be too hard. http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-26672422
  13. Depressing about Soler. Would hate that we missed out on Cespedes and Puig and threw our eggs into Soler (and Conception) basket only for him to disappoint. I wouldn't worry about the Soler hand-wringing in a season he played baseball for the first time in two years. Didn't he play in 2012? My concern about Soler is largely about the fact that he is already 22 and has played less than a season's worth of professional baseball (over 2 years) and missed a bunch of time and already has "I can retire on this and never think about caring for my children or my children's children" money. When you consider the normal failure rate of prospects and then add in the setbacks along the way already for Soler, it's a big uphill battle.
  14. was just going to say that. although this just makes it even more awkward in my opinion, since you bring attention to the matter with a transaction involving well known names before a release.
  15. It's really not that complex and the context is very much understood. The Cubs knew they could get away with losing a lot for multiple years because of the inherited brand value established over the years and instead of trying to build up the farm system while trying to succeed at the major league level, they chose to focus their efforts entirely on the farm system. Some people think that was the only way to do it and are totally cool with it. Others don't think that.
  16. What in the actual hell? I didn't see this here. Possible we just gave him away? It's not like he's got value on his own. guys, he died have some respect
  17. Why do people insist on inventing false choices? This isn't a game of Sophie's choice. They've intentionally decided not to try when they very well could have done both. You still clinging to your idea that finances aren't playing into anything? Oh my. This blanket excuse that somehow financial pressures outside of their own making forced themselves on the team is ridiculous. The Cubs chose to be very bad for a few years. They actively chose that path. It was a decision made by the powers that be. Some people are fine with their favorite team losing a lot. Some people try to convince themselves they are fin with it. Others find it annoying.
  18. Oh yes, by all means. Brett wrote a long article that revealed very little, if any new information and therefore we must praise the decision to lose as much as possible for many years. Makes sense. No one(I don't think) is praising losing. But it is what it is, I don't see the point of whining about an extra 10 wins in our current situation. Translation, the team sucks but you are a bad person if that disappoints you and you express disappointment. Good people invent a new thing to enjoy and call it cheering the process.
  19. They could and they may but they might also LTIR Roszival. Presumably, the Hawks already had a plan for how they were going to add Teuvo under the cap. That plan may have changed in light of Kane's injury. What remains to be seen is if he spends any time with Rockford to get used to the smaller sheet. The other thing to keep in mind is that if Teuvo plays more than 9 games they are burning a year on his entry level contract. It's a little bit like the rule MLB has where it's better to have the rookie start the year in AAA for an extra year of team control. If they send Teuvo to Rockford for a week, they might be able to use him just enough to get through the 1st round of the playoffs before deciding what to do about his contract. Last thing they'd want to do is be in a position where they use up that year only to get eliminated in the 1st round. Do the playoffs count against those 9 games? According to what I read earlier, yes. Although I know very little about how NHL contracts work.
