  1. it's that time of year (condo selling time)
  2. apropos of nothing I just saw David Stern on the street chatting up a random guy. I've seen him before with a mini-entourage but he was solo this time. Is he retired yet?
  3. I've seen numerous "get well" type messages from other beat writers the past year or two but never knew anything specific. I also didn't know he was only 58.
  4. The NL average was .315, the Cubs were .300 (14th). In 2000 the average was .342 and the Cubs were .335 (10th).
  5. Don't know what you mean by an either/or thing. The point kyle made was that while it's cool the Cubs have power in the minors it is surprising and kind of bizarre that three years into an Epstein era this team is going to be bad at getting on base. Probably their best guy at getting on base last year was the aforementioned Castillo.
  6. Only 58 and apparently had already battled back from a stroke and some other issues.
  7. Did Tim Sassone die? Chris Kuc and Bruce Miles have tweeted about "missing him already". Welp, seems like that is the case:
  8. This Teuvo talk is already quite overwhelming, I can only imagine it will be dwarfed by Javy talk whenever that day comes.
  9. Hope not. But that lead is, 1-1
  10. Cubs are playing and winning. 1-0 after 1 on a Donnie Murphy GB that scored Bonifacio, who tripled.
  11. Hope Jay can afford a doctor visit for his kid now.
  12. Just as long as that topic is missed draft picks by the Bears.
  13. sure... don't see why not...
  14. while some people value consistency, I think it has a big downside.
  15. New York Mets ‏@Mets 4m That was unintended. We're glad he struck out the side. #DiceK New York Mets ‏@Mets 15m Dice-KKK off to a quick start. He strikes out the side in the first inning. #NYMvsSTL
  16. Oh come on, my 77-year old grandmother knows how to use Excel and has been using it for about five years. Is she out on the road, scouting the next generation of hurlers?
  17. sports business journal?
  18. Top 100 picks losing playing time in one of their 4 years on their rookie contracts to players who either aren't very good or aren't part of this team's future, when the team should be rebuilding on defense. I get what you are saying, I just don't get why it upsets you when a rookie "loses" playing time to a superior veteran. The better player generally sees the field more in football.
  19. freaking Hendry
  20. or basketball
  21. To me, he'd be the only S on the roster that would be a shoe-in starter. I think he'd be the SS, with Conte and Mindy competing for starting FS. I'd personally would rather have a draft pick used on a S rather than sign a 30 year old who is going to be gone after 1-2 years. So if Ihedigbo prevents drafting a young S then im against it. Though, I guess you could still draft a guy and cut all or most of Steltz, M.D. Jennings and the other scrubs they signed. On a related note, its nice to go into the draft without any glaring holes in the starting lineup, but at some point, you gotta throw some guys right in there. You can't keep losing a year of development for your young players. And im sure it didn't help Bostic playing all camp, then sitting for 5 weeks. As I see it, the Bears need to draft a S, CB, DT, DE and maybe a LB in this draft. But as it stands right now, none of those picks would start. Not horrible until you realize they wouldn't stay over guys like Tillman, Ratliff, Young, Williams and Ihedigbo (if signed).....all guys over 30 and on very short term contracts. I don't really understand your concern on this matter.
  22. His last two bastards are of drinking age
