It's a third round pick, not much an impact. They need impact wherever they can get it. That already addressed your positions of concern and limiting yourself to only a couple positions in the draft is dumb.

I believe he could handle that, maybe even sooner. But the organization will want to leave open the option of keeping him down through May of next year, or whatever date it is, to extend their control over his prime years. -

Similarly, the front office likes losing as many games as possible, so in Renteria's mind bunting is just helping the organization reach its goals quicker.

I would argue that on a team with a manager that has been so bunt happy, it is only natural that players would be interested in bunting on their own regularly. If you create a bunting culture you can't be surprised when your citizens bunt.

The rule says you can have 26 guys for both games, so it does not make sense that they would call up a 26th man specifically for game 2. I am guessing you are right, but maybe there is a rule that says you can use a 26th man in game 2 if the DH was scheduled under 48 hours?

I agree that all of what he's saying is ridiculous...that said, I wouldn't go quite that far. Of all three being long term starters for the Cubs? I don't think it's that much of a stretch. Based on their skill-sets, the track records of the guys who picked/signed and are now developing them, and their own overall track records, in this particular case, I think the odds are higher than like 8% or however much lower it is now that we're 2 weeks in. It's 3 different guys of varying ages/timetables and injury histories; I just don't think it's ever going to be a smart idea to reserve the entire outfield for them at any point. Maybe it's just me but I think something is being lost in translation here. Counting on those three to fill the outfield is incredibly stupid. The odds of them succeeding together are very low. But they are probably still higher than the odds of the Cubs making the playoffs in 2014. Like 7% is greater than 0.9% kind of thing.
