  1. Aramis Ramirez was a better Cub than Lee. He is the best Cub since Sosa.
  2. winning a 4-game series is impressive. I want to be impressed
  3. It was all over ESPN yesterday. It was mentioned on local news in NYC. It was on nj.com, which is a collective of a bunch of New Jersey newspapers. I saw it referenced on NBC Sportsnet. It was trending on twitter. Yes, it got press. How much anybody actually cared doesn't really matter, it was a sports story that received attention And as others have noted, the idea that Sosa was invited and told them to pound sand does not add up.
  4. Yeah, they made that clear at the top. It's still pretty funny that only 1 NFC team predicted sub .500. At least the Raiders and Browns writers predicted 10+ losses and each AFC division had a writer with the balls to pick sub .500.
  5. Maybe Ricketts is trying to take a page, the least helpful page but a page nonetheless, from George Steinbrenner's ownership manual and starting a pointless feud with a former player to build up expectations for the eventual reconciliations which will lead to a sell-out of some meaningless game in the future.
  6. Those plans can change in a game or two. Lose a couple games 2-1 without much bullpen usage, and/or have a player getting dinged up but not enough for the DL and things can change.
  7. TT is the Darren Rovell of Cubs message board moderators. Do not disrespect this brand.
  8. Less ridiculous than calling fans that have to live through this nonsense "misanthropes". That's a real [expletive] move by you. You get more upset at fans that do not enjoy this process than the people putting us through this process. That says a lot about you.
  9. WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? THIS IS NOT AN OPEN DIALOGUE ABOUT PAST PLAYERS. THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL CAMPAIGN. We know he was not a beloved teammate. That does not matter.
  10. This is so obnoxious and tedious. The 6-year rebuilding plan? Yeah, it is.
  11. One sub .500 team in the NFC, three 12-4 teams in the AFC West. the NFL ends up 68 games over .500. The L stands for Lake Wobegon.
  12. One sub .500 team in the NFC, three 12-4 teams in the AFC West.
  13. This isn't a political race. Ricketts & Co. do not need to hear references before acknowledging the existence of a former player.
  14. The Cubs were over .500 for a couple days?
  15. I think this. There's gotta be a reason that many ex-players aren't openly campaigning for his return. You can't have so many silent people that were on the inside (ownership and FO obviously gone) be this quiet on the Cubs not inviting back their best player of this generation without having a decent reason for doing so. And if there isn't, well god dammit. IMO, it's telling that Kerry (by all accounts, a pretty decent fella) still has some sort of grudge towards Sammy after 10 years, whether it's the cork issue, moping about batting 6th, clubhouse differences, or whatever. I'd like to see Sammy come back eventually, but i'd be really surprised if there wasn't more to the story than we're led to believe. And as mentioned previously, if there isn't, well....sigh. What do you mean more? We know he annoyed a lot of his former teammates. Sandberg doesn't like him, Wood didn't like him, Grace didn't like him. This is all documented. I would not expect former teammates to lobby for the guy. I would expect a rational organization to ignore the lack of campaigning and do what is right.
  16. Huhhhhhh? Huh? What? Hossa has been non-existent? He did have one assist last night...but that's the only points he's had the whole series. Sharp has had 0 points. I want them to score. Hossa has been a great 2-way player this series. He has made a difference. I haven't noticed Sharp much.
  17. Huhhhhhh? Huh? What? Hossa has been non-existent?
  18. Ok then...banter. Whatever. The point is that Peggy Kusinski didn't think it was Kane's first playoff OT winner, and Kane played it off. Right, the point is it wasn't a joke. She was trying to ask about his history of OT goals without just asking about his history of OT goals; she thought she was being clever or something.
  19. I think it's more embarrassing that deadspin didn't get the joke. I don't get the joke. It's just a wink and a nod type of thing. That isn't a joke.
  20. How could they be on any terms at all, aside from Ricketts judging him from afar. Sosa left in 2004 and his contract ended in 2005. Ricketts wasn't even in negotiations to buy the team then. Unless Sammy banged his wife.
  21. I think it's more embarrassing that deadspin didn't get the joke. I don't get the joke.
