  1. Just looking at Minnesotas schedule and they’ve really not beaten any good qbs this year. The closest is Purdy who’s about the most good enough on a great team qb you can get. He went 21-30 for 272, 1 td and 2 int. They’ve beaten Young, Fields, Love, Heinicke and Winston. Fields really has to play well in this game to hang onto any hopes. A win isn’t the determining factor, with this team and coaching staff. But he’s got to have a good game.
  2. Not that hot. By record it’s clearly obvious Trestman was better. But the one thing Trestman did have was a GM that tried to put a winning product on the field. They also had a bevy of accomplished veterans on the roster, and Trestman was such a weirdo he destroyed the ends of their collective careers. Eberflus is barely less of a weirdo though.
  3. The Bears own pick being top 5 has been on table since day one; and I’ve said all along that if their pick is that high, with this last place schedule, then the only reaponsible thing to do is clean house. GM, HC, QB all failed miserably. the worst possible outcome is just replacing the QB and allowing the masterminds behind back to back 12+ loss seasons to waste an opportunity of a lifetime to stock this team. If they are keeping these jamokes, I’d rather Fields stay to and give them a 2024 win or else ultimatum across the board. If 2024 is another dud, then you better be cleaning house before 2025.
  4. What about Poles’ two failed free agency periods convinced you the third will go well?
  5. And where exactly is there? Bottom of the division. Completely lost about what to do next. Picking at the top of the draft again. This team is 3-8 today because of Ryan Poles, not because of what Ryan Poles inherited. Ryan Poles sat on his hands and let the team flounder when it could have been taking steps to improve. the next good free agent signing he makes will be his first.
  6. Watching Philly go into KC and steal a win with a qb that did nothing really makes me jealous of a front office that knows how to build a quality team top to bottom. The eagles are loaded with talent and seemingly reload with top end talent every few years. They lived through and thrived on a failed franchise QB situation because the cap isn’t real. The bears could do similar things, if any of the gm’s 2nd round draft picks weren’t all such mediocrities and the free agent signings did anything good. I’d rather be KC in the long term, but until you stumble on your Mahomes you should just keep acquiring blue chip talent at every opportunity. Treat QBs like RBs until you find a real one. Don’t put it all on a rookie savior.
  7. My kingdom for another Craig Counsell post
  8. are we still doing this? They barely beat the worst team in the league and Bagent did nothing to contribute. QB wins aren’t a thing.
  9. Something tells me Dobbs will be able to avoid this ferocious bears pass rush even if only by the hair of his chinny chin chin.
  10. Depends on what type of qb you are
  11. Bears have one more game before the bye, and one more opportunity to get a win in primetime following a late collapse blown lead. Chicago is getting 3.5 points against a competent team that is coming off its own late game collapse out west. This one is a lot more winnable for the bears, although they shat the bed against them last month. Minnesota’s D doesn’t do anything particularly well, they are fair to middling. This is one of those, playing well isn’t good enough games for Fields. He needs to have a very good game if he wants to build on what remaining goodwill he has with the organization. The defense has to figure out a way to not collapse against a team that throws the ball a lot and gains a lot of yards. After this game and the bye, the bears have two more likely losses on the schedule until the arizona game on Christmas Eve.
  12. I don’t think Bagent is a guy you start in front of a 1st round pick and I don’t think Bagent gives you any sort of look as a 1(B) starter. He’s a placeholder backup that can fill in as needed. Not as wanted. Bagent played against the soft underbelly of this schedule and did okay. He got one head coach fired and barely squeaked out a win over the worst team in football. if he actually can be a quality NFL backup, he can live with being 3rd in line for half a season and come out on the other side as a clear #2. Or we can never hear from him again and chuckle over the storyline
  13. It’s two part for me: 1) I hate the narrative that rookie QBs have to start immediately. 2) you are partially hoping he pulls it together. If he finishes 2023 strong, why not hope on that? Guys take different paths to stardom. Tom Brady wasn’t Tom Brady until years into his career. It only costs money and the bears aren’t spending it anywhere else. Double and triple down on the qb search until you luck into one. There’s a weird narrative that you just don’t do it but there’s no real reason why that has to be the case. Wilson failing on the Jets is more about Wilson sucking and never showing anything of value than any sort of vindication for giving up on guys. and then 3) fields does have a little “different enough look” to him to just have it be an advantage in a couple games. That’s not a long term plan but it’s an option to help 2024 bears win more games than they lose.
  14. One of the big concerns with fields is if he plays his game, he’s going to get injured. It’s not a long term style. I think you let him play his game the rest of 2023, if he makes it out alive, and you can’t get something big in a trade, let him win the job to start 2024, and see how long he lasts. Odds are by midSeason the draft pick will be starting and Bagent will be the backup. Bagent has not earned a guaranteed backup role. If you can upgrade you do it and let him prove you wrong.
  15. Didn’t watch this one. Listened to some. Seems like fields played decently enough in his return. The extra time may have helped them prep for a potential lions letdown game, but the in game coaching, as it pretty much always has with this group was lacking. you’re gonna need to see fields do this well at least in every remaining game then bring him back. that to me is much more preferable than allowing poles to bring back Eberflus with a new qb. If they aren’t going to clean house like they should, then sink or swim with these 3 guys in 2024
  16. I don’t see how that is a train wreck. The nfc south is a train wreck. The afc north is a good division whose secondary teams have become injured.
  17. What? Why? Nobody under .500, a legit Super Bowl contender at the top. Watson and Burrow are out but it’s 4 decent+ teams.
  18. Joe Burrow is done for the season. The bills have to be kicking themselves. Two top AFC Qbs are out of the picture and Mahomes is playing like a human, but they can’t get out of their own way.
  19. Strange it went from 8 originally to 10.5 and back to 8. Most people assumed Fields was playing. I think people are conveniently forgetting this defense is highly susceptible to competent QB play. The narrative is they’ve played much better the past few games, even though the Chargers game was a little over two weeks ago. And Derek Carr had his own quietly efficient and productive day without their top RB. Detroit should be able to put up a lot of points on this team.
  20. Am I supposed to feel shame for not knowing former white sox relievers? I unapologetically do not follow non-Cubs baseball.
  21. This is just a remarkably inaccurate assessment
  22. Yes, it’s this upcoming offseason. If you don’t end up with the top pick and don’t love the secondary guys in the draft, you probably keeps Fields around, if he plays well enough down the stretch to earn that chance. And depending on how well, that might justify picking up the 5th year option, which is not that big of a commitment in a world of never ending cap space for this bears team. You still have an opportunity to draft another guy in 2024 and 2025, let alone the next 7 years.
