Yes, he certainly sounds poised to take a guy at 9. Maybe that’s just playing hardball but to me it’s made the most sense to try and go blue chip in top ten and hopefully never pick that high again. And they do already have 3 picks in the first two rounds next year and 9 picks overall in 2025. So you’re looking at restocking depth next summer and maybe get a starter or two. the perceived need for more draft capital this year is just not real

It’s hardly rare for QBs to thrive on their second team. Even if you want to discount the Drew Brees situation, guys like Alex Smith, Kirk Cousins, Jared Goff, Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield have thrived in second (or third) acts. teams prefer to use their own guy, and once you get the stink of being on a bad team it can be tough to get that off you. But development is not linear and is absolutely affected by surroundings. Most guys just aren’t great QBs on their own volition.

I’m definitely in the use the 9 pick camp especially if there’s a run on QBs that leaves real top ten talent available. I get why people think poles will trade down, but for all the talk of him craving draft capital, he’s never hesitated to trade away picks for impact talent (real or not) and I think he’d love to add a blue chipper there.
