  1. Perfect fit for a cubs organization that is not the least bit invested in being the best they can be.
  2. Fullback with CTE has thoughts, neat.
  3. On the other hand you have to assume a pitcher is injured until proven otherwise #notallpitchers
  4. We going into the final year of that David Bote contract yet? Once Jed sheds that albatross he’ll be ready to spend big on stars.
  5. Yeah, that part. Kind of a big leap that affects the entire thing
  6. Yeah, of course you’d love it because no way it happens.
  7. I assume he’ll go to whomever drafts him until hearing more to the contrary, but this is not just a “nothing there” story. It’s been hinted at and referenced on numerous occasions. He doesn’t have an agent, so who knows who his “camp” truly is. The father said he may choose not to go in draft depending on who was going to take him. The Chicago bears are a bottom tier offensive team historically and recently. They are poised to do the exact same thing they did last time they drafted a qb early - fire the head coach after one disappointing season, and their current OC is very uninspiring. and now an oc he has close ties with went to the team that picks 2nd in the draft and happens to be his hometown team. There’s a pretty direct line from where we are today to the worst case scenario here. And the Bears have a tendency to find the worst case scenario. The question is whether the worst case is they talk themselves into Maye at 1 partly because they get vibes from Williams, effectively handing the first pick to Washington for nothing. Or if it’s trading down and getting nominal value because Williams was their guy and they didn’t think they could make him happy.
  8. good thing the bears won’t be a threat to draw eyes to a playoff game When could the game be held? The source said he believes the actual timing of the game is still up in the air. The expanded College Football Playoff quarterfinals will be held on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 next season, complicating the scheduling. There will be one playoff game on the evening of New Year’s Eve, and three games throughout the day on Jan. 1. There is precedent for moving the Winter Classic off of New Year’s Day. The 2017 and 2023 editions were held on Jan. 2 to avoid going up against the NFL. — Mark Lazerus, Blackhawks senior writer
  9. That seems unwarranted given their likely ability to play entertaining hockey as early as next season
  10. They’ll never get anything good from Washington. If he wants to go to Washington and Kliff, they will be forced into a weak trade. The only leverage they have is other teams willing to offer more, and teams aren’t going to be desperate to move up for a guy that wants to go to another team. It won’t be a secret. getting the first overall and then losing it for nothing more than a 2nd would suck.
  11. Well that’s very interesting.
  12. Yeah. No. If they were a random couple with a small net worth leveraging their future for a chance to flip a lot, you’d be right. But the McCaskeys will be fine with the ultimate resolution of this transaction.
  13. Lots of people have said it. I’ve read multiple variations of “but the current iteration of the bears has nothing to do with past teams” it’s just terribly naive. This is still a team run by a defensive head coach with a mediocre OC and it is very likely the staff will be gone within 2 years. There is no offensive infrastructure in place and no hopes of one being built without a superstar qb doing it on his own. as for the evidence, it’s been rumored all season long that he’d avoid a bad situation. The bears are a bad situation for young QBs. It’s a plausible story. My objection is to the people saying it is implausible.
  14. Some people think it’s ridiculous to think a young qb wouldn’t want to go to Chicago. I think those people are naive.
  15. I don’t get why people think it doesn’t make sense that a qb would not want to come to Chicago
  16. Realistically the earliest they could threaten to make the playoffs would be 25/26 season. And if you make the playoffs anything could happen. But they’ve already ruined Lukas Reichel by surrounding him with nothing, and you can be pretty certain a couple other top picks will disappoint.
  17. So now that Kingsbury is in Oakland when does Poles trade the #1 pick there?
  18. I feel like QB coaches and passing game coordinators are essentially succession planning positions. With a defensive head coach, the obvious path for promotion on this team is on the offensive side. If 2024 goes well and the offense rolls, then theoretically the OC becomes a HC candidate, and then the next Bears OC would come from either the QB coach or PGC spot.
  19. Wrong. Coaching in football matters. Offensive systems are complicated. A deep coaching bench is invaluable.
  20. Generally speaking, I like getting guys who previously held higher positions taking a “demotion”. Getting a DC who failed as a HC, or a celebrated LB coach who failed as a DC. In theory, a passing game coordinator who came from an OC position is nice. But this is a guy who has primarily been a RB coach and I don’t have tremendously high hopes for him having a positive impact on a rookie qb. But he’s definitely at the top of the list of guys who could get poached if 2024 goes well. He was interviewing for OC jobs all around.
  21. I think if he repeats 2023 with a rookie qb who shows promise, he’s fine for 2025. If they are a 4/5 win team with a stagnant offense he’ll be gone. I think that is considered to be on the hot seat. If Fields returns and they don’t take a step forward, they will all be gone. This is the biggest reason why I think taking a qb in the first is a lock.
  22. I wasn’t claiming Hendricks was more valuable, than morel, I was surprised how he’s top 20 in the organization. He’s a well compensated guy running on fumes, and you couldn’t get anything of value in a trade. If this organization is as deep as some people believe, there have to be more valuable players assets than him.
  23. I guess I don’t get the premise if Kyle Hendricks is a top 20 asset and Morel is top ten. Hendricks is holding down a spot until better options are ready, and Morel doesn’t have a spot
