    To elaborate, if they get him they have their clear cut 1 and 2 centers for the foreseeable future. All their other centers would slot behind these guys and/or move to wing. odds are though they will not get him and the next batch of guys are mostly defenseman. The hawks have D depth but could absolutely use impact guys that would immediately go to head of the class. Vlasic is a top pairing guy, Korchinski might be a second pairing guy. All their other depth is either 2nd or 3rd pairing guys. If they wound up with the top Dman in this draft and found a top pairing player, they could be set up really nicely for when Jones is garbage and still making bank.

    Seems like a good compromise between the potential short term lower hit options and the 8 year higher hit options. Still some flexibility down the road. But thinking way into the future he’ll be in line to take Jones’s cap hit when that comes off the books.

    The biggest problem with Murphy at 9 is that it’s so obviously dictated by team need/scheme, and not a best player available selection. if Eberflus was not the head coach, and this wasn’t a Tampa 2 team, that selection would not even be considered. Taking him at 9 is a waste of draft capital.

    Murphy seems to be a consensus better prospect than newton, but murphy doesn’t seem like a guy that should go 9. Production in college, especially on the line, is a nebulous concept. This isn’t baseball. You can’t quantify ability.

    If you do it right, there isn’t much of an off-season in hockey. The best teams play into June. The ****** teams are done in April, but the better players wind up skating in world championships. This year that includes Seth Jones and Alex Vlasic joining Luke Hughes on the blue line. Could be a good experience in Czechia. Davidson made it clear they want to be done with the bottom of the barrel results from the last two years. They have cap space and multiple picks this off-season. They will probably bring in a top 6 forward type, and a top 4 defensemen.

    The draft is pretty good background noise for a Saturday working around the house. It’s awful tv otherwise.

    No. In fact if you want to get a pick for him you better have him under contract in the correct role so a team has to poach.

    Seems like a good candidate for a low figure extension that’s buys flexibility. But his season may have been bad enough that they don’t even want to risk paying him past 2025
