    In a world where tenure/time served holds sway over ability, it would make sense to me that the new guy would be forced to move off his normal duties if he wants to work with the organization that already has people at his position. And baseball is absolutely a world in which tenure/time serves holds sway. In the normal course of business there's no doubt to me that a guy like Russell would be forced to play a different position if he was called up to a team that had a competent Bryant at 3B and Castro at SS, and LF may be the most likely destination, given the lack of interesting guys playing there already. But the Cubs might do things differently enough that they might actually have Bryant make the move in that situation.

    That's because baseball is the one sport where effort doesn't really matter. You cannot really take half hearted swings and there would be no benefit to it. Although there is plenty of benefit of not going balls out to make a tackle or deliver a check. Pitchers could theoretically take something off, but in practice that may have other negative affects and instead they just throw fewer pitches than normal.

    I'm just saying what Manfred said. So move all three OF to the right side and let the 3B play deeper than usual? Unless you make very strict positional determinations you cannot enforce it and therefore it's a bad idea because very strict positional determinations are dumb.

    I'm in agreement here. Let the managers put the players wherever. Let them figure out what works. How hardcore would it be codified? Could the SS not line up in the outfield grass? In late inning games with runners on, when you need a DP, could you not bring one of the outfielders in? Who gets to decide what's a standard array of fielders and what's a "radical shift?" You're overreacting to this. They'd just enforce that a team would have to put 2 players on each side of 2nd base...there's not some arbitrary "too radical" evaluation to be made. Players will be free to make other defensive adjustments, further out...further in...no doubles...etc. I don't think it'd be a big deal. I don't know that it's necessary immediately...give it a few years here to see if batter start to adjust to it. What about moving the LF to a very deep 3B and the 3B to a normal SS?

    A 7-day break doesn't affect me nearly as much for NHL than a 4-day break for MLB. All the regular off days in the NHL familiarizes me to not having a game on.

    You are paranoid of a homeless person stealing your hoodie again? I'm paranoid of someone being able to break into my car and do something else like, oh I don't know, steal it. (I know it was a joke, and I laughed, but still) I'm not sure where you are from but that can and does happen everywhere and is not something to be paranoid about. I know a guy who had his shitty car broken into 3 times outside his apartment. Once, it was clearly driven and returned to a different spot. The other time, cops found it with a group of teens hanging out in a parking lot 2 miles away and alerted him to the stolen car before he knew.

    Do you really need an answer to that question? I guess I do since I'm asking it. I know people hate on Cutler irrationally, but its the first I heard of people believing that he stopped trying. Ok then, yes, there is a belief outside of Chicagoland that Cutler gave up on Trestman/the Bears/the season/pick your poison. The "don't care meme" went into overdrive.
