  1. nice round 105 or bust With our JV lineup I'm not sure we get to that. its one game of jv
  2. like in a delorean?
  3. Too much time off. 1-1.5 games off per week is more than enough to rest for playoffs, but they have to stay sharp and they should still be working to clinch HFA and more importantly the ability to face a WC team that had to throw its ace already.
  4. The only one I can think is that it's part of a negotiation to have the reverse ratio at another time.
  5. hells yeah, the post clinching JV squad is always a fun one.
  6. Nothing wrong with feeling a little meh today, since this was so anti-climactic due to being locked up months ago. [tweet] [/tweet]
  7. He's definitely not plus plus likeability. He's kinda jerkfacy. that's just weird he's intense on the mound, as are a lot of players. But there's plenty of instances of him being all happy go lucky with the other guys. And most importantly he was a part of the chicken and beer story in Boston that led to Theo departing the Red Sox and completely turning around a Cubs franchise. Not to mention he was a free agent that chose to come here and has done exactly what they needed him to do. It boggles my mind why a Cubs fan wouldn't like him.
  8. 7 year olds don't learn that. Keeping score is for the sake of the parents. Unfortunately, in our small town it almost always plays out where there are 4 teams: one wins every game, the second beats the other 2 teams, the third team only beats the 4th team and the 4th team loses every game. I've coached a lot of youth sports teams and, over the years, I've had teams across the spectrum. I hate having a stacked team. It's no fun for anyone involved except a couple parents that are typically terrible people. Having the team that goes 0 for the season is no fun for the 1-2 kids that actually care who wins. our games start tomorrow for 2nd season. I managed to just be a helper last year but I think the coach this year over extended himself with older kids traveling team and I'm going to get suckered into coaching a sport I only played begrudgingly as a child and know next to nothing about. Last year's team had one awesome boy, a couple lost kids and mostly just fine participants. Thankfully my daughter was in the just fine group. They managed to win probably half the games and it was fun for her. Parents who obsess over keeping score, making sure there is a winner/loser and no participation trophy probably have a warped sense of what sports were like when they were 6/7/8. It's not until 9/10/11 when real winning and losing matters.
  9. He stood with back turned for half an inning though
  10. http://24.media.tumblr.com/e6e539638f1d0b81e0ea06e9c3e9798c/tumblr_n55rbyT8dh1s3pnt4o1_400.gif
  11. hot sports takes
  12. only the redskins and chargers are favored by a lesser percantage
  13. what the horsefeathers does hold to a higher standard even mean? you judge the player by his ability vs all the rest of the league. Starting pitchers are judged against all other starting pitchers. You don't regard Hammel as high as Arrieta and you don't worry much about him since he's not going to be on the playoff roster anyway, but they are both starting pitchers and you judge them as such.
  14. If you hold your 5th starter to the same standards you hold your #1 starter, you're gonna have a bad time. Which is basically what goony said in the link I posted (that they should all be held to the same standard). as they should you rate them all as starting pitchers and hammel has been fine. He hasn't been dragging the team down with him. He's been better than essentially half the starting staffs in baseball. He would probably be good enough to make any pitching staff. If the Cubs could find 5 guys better than him I'd hardly miss him but they haven't and probably won't anytime soon. I'm not sure why this is so complicated. Rating him against only other #5 starters would be dumb.
  15. which also means the cubs won't have anything to do with it. i believe kenney has stated at one point or another that the money will be put back into the team, but that since it's a separate entity, it won't have to go through the revenue sharing stuff and maybe whatever the covenant restrictions were with the debt obligations? i could totally be pulling out of my ass and i'm definitely speaking out of turn, as i have no idea about any of that stuff...just a vague recollection of what was said. i think kenney said the same about the ricketts owned rooftops. I would not be surprised if he said that. I would be surprised if it happened. The rooftops are essentially another section of seating and that probably is the case. But the hotel is going to need to function as its own entity and nobody should expect payroll to rise based on the success of that business.
  16. It'll be owned by the Ricketts family. which also means the cubs won't have anything to do with it.
  17. the early playoffs dismissal and extra golf and beach time leads to Keith having a knee injury that may keep him out for start of season [tweet] [/tweet]
  18. I would assume the expectation is for relatively few guests to arrive via their own car that needs to be parked, like a lot of city-based hotels.
  19. I prefer to think of it as not as great
