The explanation was that as soon as the playoffs are set you know the potential host cities for games 1,2,6,7 and the potential host cities for games 3,4,5. There was some level of certainty. I'm not sure why the NHL and NBA don't have that problem with 16 teams to account for (or I guess 15 since worst record in playoffs cant get home court/ice). Of course their playoffs last 2.5 months so they have a little more time I'm sure they do have that "problem" but as I said, it's probably not that big of a problem. It was an excuse more than anything. And I'm guessing the extremely prolonged nature of those playoffs plus the fact that they don't play back to back to back nights makes it a different animal. MLB has the date of every potential game set in stone long in advance. The NHL schedule gets reshuffled for each round and I assume the NBA is similar.
