  1. He had 2 feet on the ground and the ball cross the line in his possession, there doesn't need to be anything beyond that.

  4. I'm later than you are to the party, but didn't they(FO or Maddon, can't remember) make it clear that Monty was a reliever only going forward? the end of season quote was Monty would probably go into spring training as a starter and end the spring as a reliever.
  5. I'm just going to PM you or jersey the next time I want to start a thread so you guys can propose an acceptable title and/or post the thread yourself and steal my sweet sweet glory of being the OP. So you're down with OPP? other posters puns

  10. Lost in the craziness of Pittsburgh having a TD unfairly overruled despite video evidence that didn't show the ball hitting the ground (left hand moved, right hand stayed under ball), the big mistake by Ben was the dumb throw underneath on 2nd down. It's 1/goal from the 8 with 36 seconds left. You have three shots at the end zone then a field goal. He threw short on first down and got away with it, but then he threw short again and forced a sloppy third down play. That's dumb QB play that a rookie would get raked for.
  11. It could and maybe it should, but it probably won't. The point is I wouldn't put 10-6 as a bare minimum for Pace to return. If they improve to 9-7 next year, or even 8-8, and Trubisky takes a step forward, then bringing in a new GM after all that leaves you in another lame duck coach/QB situation. The new GM will then get a few years to evaluate both Mitch and whoever Pace hires this offseason, then after 2 years he can clean house and start fresh from there. I don't really like that idea. Trubisky taking a step forward will depend on the wr position and better coaching. If he gets that and the defense stays healthy, theres enough talent to be at 9-7. If the get lucky a few games, i could see that team get to 11-5. But with likely coach turnover i could just as easily see a 5-7 win team. Then what do you do? Dump Pace to leave an unwanted coaching staff for a new GM? I think Pace will get 2 more years. At this point, I'd give Pace a 2 year extension (taking him through 2021), so that when he goes out and recruits a head coach he can point to the stability and get whomever he wants. Ownership then evaluates 2018/2019 and either moves forward with the Mitch/New Coach/Pace trio, or cleans house.

  13. i think the case is reasonably in favor of keeping him, but would not be upset if he was replaced. If you did replace him, then Mitchell becomes somebody else's problem, and the next guy will be allowed to start from scratch at qb again in 2-3 years. Pace has his guy and should get one shot to win in 2018. There's no excuse for this team to be this weak and bereft of talent this far into his tenure. This isn't baseball when it takes 4-6 years to develop prospects. The NFL allows for yearly roster turnover and three years in this is entirely Pace's team. This isn't Emerys fault anymore. Fwiw, I think Pace will be back. I can't imagine year 4 being that much of an improvement to where you can justify bringing him back for off-season #5. It is disappointing that Mitchell's 1st two years of a cost controlled rookie contract will consist of a lame duck coach in year 1 and a lame duck GM in year 2. I have no reason to be confident in Pace turning this thing around after 3 bad years and an already failed coaching staff his 1st time through. If Mitch is any good, they should at least contend for playoff position in 2018. Probably won't go from 4-12 to 10-6, but at least flirt with 9-7 and show actual improvement. If they can't manage that, then he's gotta be gone.
  14. This team is well below talentwise where they should be under Pace. If they cleaned house, I would not be upset. Of course, the same people would be making the decision as to whom to hire next. I think at this point, there is a slightly greater case to fire Pace than to keep him. i think the case is reasonably in favor of keeping him, but would not be upset if he was replaced. 15. if it's a "lovie was much better than most give him credit for" take I'm on board.Lovie overplayed his power after the super bowl lost, never settled the qb position, rode the cover 2 past our ability to supply it with talent, and hasnt been able to repeat that success since he was fired. He was clearly the best coach we've had since Ditka/Ryan, but to long for the days of Lovie is just revisionist. Would I take him over Fox? yes. Would I bring him back? no. Most of this is true, and yet they've had much worse head coaches since then.
  16. Is this a "The Bears shouldn't have fired Lovie" take? Because that's not a good take. if it's a "lovie was much better than most give him credit for" take I'm on board.
