  1. It's not a need, it's a reward. You want to incentivize trying, which is a problem in baseball right now. The difference between being the #2 seed and the # 5 seed can literally be the division you play in. How does a 1 fame lead incentivize trying in that scenario, which happens nearly every year? I'm not advocating the 1 game lead thing. I think 1 game play ins for WC teams are the best option. The point is to make a strong team in a though division not just settle for a WC, and also giving contenders a reason to try for more than just getting in with 85 wins. At the bare minimum, you want to host that WC play in game if for nothing else, the revenue, but also the excitement you give your hometown fans and slight advantage in winning. Same with better record team hosting playoff rounds.

  3. that's why you make the WC a one game play-in, to really give the top teams an incentive to be great and not settle for just getting in. Wild cards team get the opportunity, but they have to go an extra step to make up for sneaking in on the cheap.
  4. double headers in the playoffs is trash
  5. Along those lines, the Cubs should be attractive to all these injured / comeback guys. With clear openings in the rotation and pen this year and even more next year, there is a clear path with the Cubs to re-establish themselves. Until they meet the Cubs medical personnel.
  6. Salt? No Salt? Rocks? Which apps? cadillac margarita on the rocks with salt, always salt. Queso fundido with chorizo. chips and salsa
  7. We stopped into a mexican restaurant for some margs and apps and the Trestman game was on over my shoulder. My daughter kept glancing up but I realized it was just during commercials, and then when bowling came on after the game. I cannot imagine getting into a new league.
  8. Maata and Carpenter have been ok. Smith is terrible. DeHaan was good until he got hurt. Lehner has been great. De Haan was rehabbing an injury at the time of the trade and is now reinjured. If you take a guy who is basically only available because of his injury risk and he gets injured right away, that's a whiff no matter how well he played in the month he was active.
  9. they should trade them both and take their chances in the lottery again this year, but they probably won't trade either and will hope to become the hot hand in the playoffs.
  10. I too am a javy coward viewtopic.php?f=2&t=407&p=270020&hilit=whispers#p270020
  11. You write that as if it's meaningful.
  12. You only need a Q replacement if you require competent pitching. If you're basically taking a mini dive this season by unnecessarily cutting costs, some garbage guys filling in at that spot is just going to help your draft spot.
  13. Someone (USA Today??) pegged them at 82 wins and 4th place I mean I haven't seen a betting line that low, I'm sure individuals will predict lower. That's a different story.
  14. I haven't seen one that low yet
  15. welcome to adulthood
  16. If he needs motivation from what fans are saying then he's got major problems. Perhaps, I have should said adds more fuel to the fire, he's got to be majorly pissed off with this constant narrative, with social media it surrounds him 24/7, who wouldn't be? I don't think trying hard has been the issue. The guy seems motivated to be better. I've never questioned his effort. The issue with Mitch is he is not smart. You can't fix that with inspiration.
  17. A flag fest in the Super Bowl would have been net negative. I liked the way it played out. I wish regular games would be called this way instead of every ticky-tack penalty getting called. This game was more about the teams than the refs. That's a good thing, but it definitely was not consistent with what we've become accustomed. It helps when you have two great teams playing. A couple garbage teams are going to play more sloppily and force more flags to be thrown. Although there are a few too many crews that love to over penalize.
  18. No, not at all. Complete opposite actually. They let people play. That delay of game non penalty is how that is (not)called all the time. It drives me nuts every time I see it, but so be it.
