  1. They don't typically do intrasquad games during the season.
  2. How the horsefeathers is anybody extolling the virtues of Albert Freaking Almora on here? I thought we were past that nonsense.
  3. He’s Ournan Perez now
  4. It's been discussed. The problem is you don't save that much money and are practically forced to go out and pay for similar pitching at similar cost somewhere else
  5. It was announced they are staying on Sunday night
  6. Yeah, changes need to be made. As far as I can tell, Helfrich has nothing to do with anything. So I'm thinking he's either the fall guy or they keep him, let him call plays and potentially bring in Mariota to compete with Mitch. QB coach and special teams coach also can probably go away. It's crazy that Dave Raggone has been the QB coach for 4 years.
  7. I can't imagine Floyd is a candidate for an extension.
  8. Anybody else think they make a change at OC? Two years as an OC that doesn't actually call plays has probably not vaulted Helfrich into a situation where he can be a head coach again soon. But they probably have to make some real coaching staff changes on the offensive side. Nagy would have to relinquish play calling duty in order to get the best options.
  9. What the hell? First of all, one of the INTs was a Hail Mary at the end of the half. Literally meant nothing to the final score. Secondly, the Bears have beaten 2 teams by double digits. One is in play for the #2 pick. There was 0 realistic chance they win that game yesterday by 10 points if they played next to flawlessly. Well, I guess technically if the hail mary wasn't intercepted and instead somehow turned into a Bears TD, that could have been meaningful. But even if they did score there and eventually somehow got a double digit lead, this offense wasn't going to put away the Packers by 10 in the end.
  10. There are games on the schedule, including Sunday night vs the Chiefs on NBC, but none of that matters.
  11. I really want to see the Cubs trade their home grown, rookie of the year, MVP, world series winning, future hall of fame, young third baseman because that would be good and cool, but everybody on this board keeps saying that would be a bad thing and I'm afraid they'll jump down my throat so I just pretend that I want him to stay.
  12. hell yeah derwood wants to subsidize the brewers
  13. horsefeathers you, we got the Fonz.
  14. can't tell if quote from winter meetings or a september road trip
  15. They've been in charge more than 5 years. Their actual average is 84-win baseball. Which, given their financial advantages, I think a C+ is plenty generous. So the Astros get a C+ this decade as well? Their losing was even more horrendous. I can take rebuids if they give 5 year stretches like the most recent, the problem is they should not need to rebuild this core already. just a reminder the Cubs are 817-803 under Ricketts. They cut costs and corners for 5 years to do a rebuild that resulted in 4 legitimately successful seasons. That's an unacceptable ratio, especially when you factor in their dominant financial stance in their division.
  16. that was pre-budget crunch. now pete just comes in and throws 'em a bunch of pamphlets from the info desk at O'hare suggesting they visit brookfield zoo, morton arboretum, navy pier and cloud gate. And they get 20% off at the Hotel Zachary if they stay 3 nights or more.
  17. it's 3:50am, the lights are coming on and we're out of cash, it's less about love and more desperation for some companionship.
  18. Guys like Bryant also aren't typically available in any month. It's a very unique situation. A big market team that can more than afford to keep him, does not have to cave to lower offers. There's no way they have a "must move Bryant" mandate this offseason. Waiting until January is fine (as long as they ultimately don't trade him at all).
  19. ...why? Waiting to trade Bryant hurts your ability to get maximum value for him. Since the only logical reason to trade Bryant is predicated on thinking his value is at an artificial high, you're punting that benefit by waiting. I don't see how this works. His value is going to be based on how badly somebody needs an MVP caliber third basemen, and that will be determined by who is left off the list of teams that signed a free agent this year. It's not like you are in a situation where you have to trade him in January because you've begun to entertain offers. His value is depressed without confirmation of his remaining years under control. Once that is clarified, you can negotiate with knowledge of who is gone and how valuable he is, then determine if you still want to trade him. Trading him is a bad idea. But there's nothing wrong with waiting until January.
  20. If you're trading Bryant you're giving up on 2020 anyway, so who cares if you get "too many" platoon centerfielders?
  21. My goodness this is a freaking frustrating conversation. No kidding that was the design. The topic of conversation was about an extension for Rizzo, and ways to get one that doesn't leave you shelling out big for an old done dude. My opinion is the easiest way to extend him "cheaply" is by throwing a little extra money his way now. Show him some love for more than living up to his contract and providing you a ton of profit. And then maybe he'd sign something feasible. If you make him play out this deal then he's got more incentive to try and get the best deal he can get next time around. If you don't want to keep him at all, fine, let him walk. Personally, I'd trade him.
  22. Nobody said that's what he'd get. Nobody thinks that's what he'd get. That number is what he was "worth" statistically. But guys never get that number. The point is he's been underpaid by a wide margin and will remain underpaid under this contract. He'd make a crapton more if at any point he had reached free agency, including right now. It's not even worth discussing. It's a completely useless data point (as CR points out above), and it certainly adds nothing to determining whether he is underpaid. Then stop referencing it. He's underpaid.
  23. Why are you talking about $33 million? Responding to the original post that, for 2 of the past 3 years, Rizzo was "worth" nearly twice the $16.5m he is scheduled to be paid. For some reason the original post isn't included in your quote.
  24. Abreu just got $16.67m a year after two years putting up 3.1 WAR combined. If you think Anthony Rizzo would get more on the open market per year than Bryce Harper, I’m not sure what to tell you. Why are you talking about $33 million?
