  1. I don't believe I've ever heard a "Maddux wasn't that good on the Cubs" take before. He was young and consistently good and getting better in the process. Everybody thought he'd have an amazing career. Nobody predicted he'd pitch for 16 more seasons, but he was already well on pace for greatness and worth every penny. I was only 7-8 at that time and didn't really get into the Cubs until a couple years later after he left so I had no idea on how he was viewed as a Cubs and was curious. Thanks. Grace, Sandberg and Maddux were the only good things left from the '89 season, which was the last good time to be a Cubs fan. Back then we were dumb and liked pitchers. And we all loved Maddux.

  3. If you want leverage to buy out his free agency years on the cheap, the best way is to offer a couple more bucks now, when he's grossly underpaid. He's got less and less incentive to do such a thing if you make him play out this contract. Unfortunately, the Cubs can't "afford" to give him more money now.
  4. I like that they blow it off as just a fraction of an inch difference, as if the baseline measurement of seam inch is multiple inches.
  5. I may quit sports if that happened, there is no reaching the high of the next month again if everything happened to create that scenario.
  6. What is he saying? They want to trade him ASAP or they want to sign him to an extension ASAP? The former sucks, and the latter isn't really up to them.
  7. How is this even possible?
  8. I will take the under, please.
  9. Yeah for his RBIs! RBIs! ...he had 5 WAR What is that good for?
  10. directed to brandon
  11. I highly doubt that. The only way they stay favorites after trading those guys is if they get back quality major leaguers, and if they get back quality major leaguers they aren't getting the prospects necessary to vault into a top 10 system.
  12. If you blow up the team and keep Rizzo you're doing it wrong. And if you are making that ridiculous decision, what is the point of keeping Baez? Hendricks might bring back some value as well, but at some point you need arms that can throw major league innings to complete a 6-month season.
  13. Yes, because a blow-up means 2-3 years of gross baseball and I'm getting too old for that horsefeathers The mid-2010s Bulls employed the middle way the Cubs seem about to embark on. How's that worked out? Horrible comparison. NBA is an actual salary cap league and the sport is extremely star dependent, which teams often luck into. No big market MLB team has to do anything resembling an NBA style rebuild.
  14. It used to be an issue for me but it hasn't happened in a long time
  15. Sat in front of moms group, they liked me.
  16. I cannot get on board with this theory, that admittedly has been shared by many others. Mitch was throwing deep before, he wasn't intercepted becuase he'd miss everybody by 5 yards. He also had quite a few "should have been" INTs, and plenty of them on shorter passes as well. The INT last night was really bad. He was not pressured, had plenty of time to get rid of the ball, and should have just thrown it away (although I suspect the film will show he had some open receivers earlier). He's lucky the defense stepped up after Dallas started with a precision drive. He did play great and has rebounded nicely, but I am not for "the interceptions means he's trying more" mentality. His INTs are from bad decisions. I get that its hard to watch him throw that int last night when it looked like such a glaring mental mistake, but he bounced back so well (throwing 3 td's and running for 1) that its hard for me to hold it against him. It was also picked at the 1/2 yard line with the DB barely getting 2 feet down, and ultimately ended up with no points for the Cowboys. Kind of the reason why I said he played great and bounced back nicely.
  17. yes https://www.footballdb.com/games/boxscore.html?gid=2004091907 Holy crap, how did I not realize that the Bears somehow won at Lambeau 4 years in a row? (2004-2007) Since then they've won in 2013 and 2015 It's what pretty much guaranteed Lovie would get a lot of leeway, well, that and the Super Bowl appearance.
  18. I just searched for slim chance images. No idea about the beer.
  19. Chicago gets 10 days to prepare for the Packers, who host a mildly rejuvenated Washington team at home this weekend. It's December in Lambeau and Green Bay is probably going to be a fairly large favorite. Huge but, and I mean... http://cdn.funnyisms.com/c3035108-d456-4d6e-8e9e-76247ae3693e.gif huge, it is a division game and you never know with those. The Bears are averaging 24 a game the past three weeks and probably need to hit that mark again if they want to beat the Packers, who have been scoring and will continue scoring against a banged up Bears defense. Chicago is tied into Mitchell through 2020 and he can still pull out a miracle and prove to be worth a new contract, but it will take doing things like beating Green Bay on the road in a must win game. As I said in the preseason, I have a lot of hope in Mitch, but no faith. The Bears can win this game, and if they want to hold on to the slim playoff hopes, they have to pull off the upset. Let's get drunk.
