  1. I don't understand how Ramirez looks terrible.
  2. I disagree. That's not funny at all.
  3. I think that might hurt ratings....a lot. sex sells man, sex sells.
  4. This brings to mind the wise words of Cameron Diaz in There's Something About Mary: I'm ****ing with you, Ted!
  5. I would be suprised if Fontenot doesn't start at 2B and I'd be even more suprised if Jones and Fontenot are traded together. Any insight into why Lou would consider starting Fontenot at 2B a "surprise"? Because he likes to jerk the media around? I doubt this will be anything big, though I'd like it to be. The last big shocking surprise was Dempster to the rotation for 15 minutes.

Any insight into why Lou would consider starting Fontenot at 2B a "surprise"? He might assume a writer would be surprised Lou stuck with Fontenot at 2B even though DaRosa was no longer needed at 3B.
  7. I'm not certain, but I'd bet he's accrued enough service time to have the right to refuse the assignment. I don't know what they use to determine that, but he's played in 700+ games.
  8. They will need another DT still IMO. I'm not sure getting another one is all that possible, or necessary. Sure, if there is a quality guy out there, they should take a look. There are 6 on the roster right now. Harris, Dusty, Adams, Idonije are practically locks to make the roster. Garay is also a good bet. They signed an undrafted rookie who might be able to provide some depth. They've added Bazuin to the D-end rotation, so the defensive line as a whole is pretty well stocked right now.
  9. Wowzers. 670 the score is reporting the same thing. Can't say I blame them. It's pretty much a certainty that this incident means the chance of making it 6 games instead of 8 is gone. And there's a decent chance Goodell would actually add games as this is a new incident. Had Tank taken the situation seriously, and turned his life around without incident, he'd have been showing a real committment to correcting his mistakes. This isn't about being out at 3:30 AM to me, I don't care about that stuff. But this is about being in Tank's situation and being out at 3:30 AM with perhaps something iffy in his system. I thought Tank was pretty disappointing as a player for most of his time here, so it's easier to swallow if true. But he was still a decent cog on the wheel. As long as they find a way to replace him, and feel confident in Harris and Dusty (which I presume they do), then I can't say they are making a mistake.
  10. They were hot, but they just got swept. They are no longer hot. Hot and cold is all about streaks, and Colorado is on a 3-game losing streak. I wouldn't say they're struggling, or in a rut, but they aren't hot anymore.
  11. What about Shapiro's right hand man Antoinetti? That is who I am died hard on for next Cubs GM. What's that now?
  12. We're not crucifying him. I'm questioning the reasoning behind the callup to AA given the fact that he hasn't done a whole lot at lower levels. He's only moving along fast because the Cubs are pushing him at what appears to be an unnecessarily quick rate.
  13. It was a bad signing regardless of what he provided in 2006.
  14. Unless MIL goes 2-4, I'd be disappointed in a 3-3 home stand this week. At this point any loss of position is going to be disappointing. And if your goal is .500 by the all star break, 3-3 isn't going to cut it. They should pick up some games on .500 against Pitt and Washington, but they'd need to go 6-1 in order for it to be reached. We're playing the two hottest teams in the NL and the pitching matchups are not particularly favorable all week. If the Cubs can sneak out a win tonight (when the pitching matchup is definitely not favorable), I like our chances of going 4-2. If not, 3-3 would be swell. FWIW, me miss both Vargas and Suppan against the Brewers, instead facing Bush, Gallardo, and Sheets. Colorado lost 3 in a row. That's not all that hot. Regardless, a 3-3 record makes reaching .500 by the all star break extremely difficult, and if go to be Sunday night no close to Milwaukee than they are now, it's going to be disappointing.
  15. Isn't that the guy who gave him a backloaded 3/16 deal? If you don't make fun of him for a week, I'll pick up the slack. The whole Jacque signing is contingent on this trade. If Hendry manages to get a decent player and/or relief from the contract, then the signing goes in the books as a decent one, possibly even a pretty good one. If he can't and Jacque continues to be a liability on this team and the Cubs keep paying his contract, the signing can quickly become a bad one, even with him being a pretty decent bargain last year. It already is a bad one. He can make it less bad by getting rid of him.
  16. Not really. There was talk about Wrigley not necessarily being part of the sale. That's insane. A sale of the Cubs that doesn't include Wrigley makes absolutely no sense at all.

  18. That's the problem, he wasn't having that good of success. He wasn't dominating, or anywhere close. He wasn't toying with the competition. He was barely hitting .300 and had an awful K/BB ratio. If Cubs coaches had a tough time convincing him that his awful K/BB ratio was reason enough to be more patient, then this kid is going to be really tough to coach. You don't promote a guy in order to get him to fix problems he is apparantly ignoring.
  19. Colvin, too Kind of off to a rough start in AA huh. Still don't understand why they promoted him so soon without even coming close to dominating high A. He might not have been dominating, but he had the 13th best OPS in his entire league while playing an excellent CF, so I would say that was close to dominating, especially when you consider that he was closer to 7th as he was to 14th. It's probably a little aggresive, but the things he needs to work on it will probably be better to work on in AA than High A. I imagine he'll struggle in AA for the while-in fact, he'll probably just start to figure it out at the end of this season and the beginning of next season at AA, but that's just fine. It's going to be hard to work on things that you're not good at (improving plate discipline, K/BB) while facing better pitching and tougher competition. He should have stayed at high-A for a while longer. Yeah, the the theory that he needed to face better pitchers in order to have an incentive not to swing doesn't make much sense. It's not like he was toying with inferior competition in the FSL. He was barely over .300 with a horrible K/BB ratio. I could see if the guy was doing something like 380/405/595 you might think that he needs to face tougher pitchers so he can have incentive not to swing. But he was barely hitting .300 down there. Colvin appeared to be at an age and skill appropriate level in High A. He was doing well in some regards, but struggling enough in important things so that one could see he wasn't wasting his time down there. I have to wonder if the promotion had other things besides Colvin's need to see better competition. Perhaps baseball decisions makers wanted to show ownership their newest draft picks were progressing well in order to gain authorization for current signings or something.
  20. How in the world is that close to dominating? The guy with the best numbers is dominating. The guys ranked 2nd and 3rd are dominating. The guy with the 14th best OPS is not dominating. Maybe we just have different definitions of dominating then. I'll rephrase-he was one of the best players in his league this year, especially considering the position that he plays. He was one of the better players in a 12 team league, but his numbers were far from outstanding and there was no obvious reason to promote him this early. He's ~ 520 at bats into his pro career and is sitting somewhere around .280/.315/485 with a K/BB of 103/27. He's not yet 22, yet for some reason they've decided to have him skip low A and spend just 2.5 months in high A before shipping him off to AA.

  22. Colvin, too Kind of off to a rough start in AA huh. Still don't understand why they promoted him so soon without even coming close to dominating high A. Obviously it's still very early in the process for both these guys, but it's still distressing to see such a big money 22 year old pitcher struggling this much in the FSL. It would be one thing if he was just putting up ho hum blah numbers that aren't impressing anybody, but he's actually looking awful in the stats category. I hope it's just a matter of getting stretched out and used to pitching every 5 days, 30 times a year.
  23. Without a major acquisition, I'd say a slight chance, maybe 1 in 5/6. If they were to get a major upgrade at SS I'd see a much better chance.
  24. Arrested for teenage sex? Does that mean he fumbled with his wallet to find a 6-month old condom before the girl's parents got home? Oh, sex with a teenager, that's bad. R. Kelly bad.
