I think evidence points to him being above average more so than very good. Inthink it’s perfectly reasonable for him to have this job.

Chicago is one of 7 home dogs in the NFL’s opening week but the only one to open as a favorite, moving from -1.5 to +1.5. After a huge upgrade in the head coach hopes and expectations were sky high but have since cooled as people continue to doubt Caleb Williams and everybody realizes the defense kind of sucks. Something tells me we are in for some good old fashioned overreactions regardless of the results.

Well, after three full seasons of Poles being in charge, going into his 4th, there were too many holes on the roster to be able to fill entirely. So they focused on the interior O line this year and the draft ended up heavily on the WR/TE groups early, which didn’t leave them much room to upgrade DL. Presumably the pass rush will be addressed next year, but they still have OT issues and need younger depth on the interior OL since all three fixes were old short term options. They also need DB depth again despite an early emphasis there. If Williams solidifies himself as THE guy then all that stuff will be easier to take care of. But if they also have to think about going QB early sometime in the next two drafts, the hopes will continue to multiply.

The offseason is over, preseason is done. 53 man roster decisions are nearly complete. 13 days from now Chicago faces Minnesota as 1.5/2.0 point dogs at home in prime time

I really have to wonder, if you’re willing to invest as much as you did in a Bagent extension at this point, why would you also feel the need to carry a third qb on the roster? It’s not as if this is an Eagles or Ravens roster where you can reasonably expect to at least be in the race even if the qb misses some time. This team is going as far as Williams takes them. Bagent is a third year vet now. He’s started games. He’s signed for three years. He’s played more than Keenum the past two seasons. What exactly does Keenum bring to the room now? Ben Johnson is going to have the greatest effect on Williams. The other offensive coaches will also have some impact. Maybe Keenum had some sort of impact this past offseason and training camp as Williams learned a new system. But Bagent is the clear 2 and there are depth issues at DB, RB, OT and DL. His roster spot is probably better used at another spot.

A few means more than two, and we’re two weeks from game 1. It’s heavily implied he won’t play in that game. Bear writers are assuming an extra d linemen makes the roster because of the injury

Really? What fans? I mean, if he ended up playing well in multiple games this season then sure that could net a 2nd. But now? No way.

I’m not seeing people acting like he’s ready to wash out, I’m seeing people expressing concern he’s on a similar path to Mitch and Justin, who are still gainfully employed.

9/12/98, I road tripped back to Chicago and caught the game vs Milwaukee they win on a walk off Orlando Merced HR. Sammy hit his 60th. Cubs were down 10-2 at one point. I was in 2nd or 3rd row of upper deck down left field line. Place was rocking.

Söderblom signed 2 @2.75. Which kind of solidifies the logjam at goalie before camp, with I think 5 guys between AHL and NHL and a couple unsigned draftees waiting in the wings

Well they installed the offense in May and have emphasized the need for high completion percentages so if he’s having trouble, that’s not good

I think two of three will be nice additions but they’re all old and on the downside and left tackle is a messy situation hopefully the pass blocking is better but a lot of the sack issues have been qb induced but I don’t think any of them justify claiming this roster is above average
