  1. maybe he wore 7 with the falcons? http://web.wireimage.com/images/tnm/11401056.jpg
  2. Big Dick and Little Dick? Works for both height and age purposes.
  3. If he's throwing fewer splitters, that could explain the decrease in ground balls. Also, since hanging splitters are a HR waiting to happen, perhaps that is why his flyballs are up while the HR are down.
  4. http://www.insidebayarea.com/sports/ci_9822250 We got ourselves a Cubs hater.
  5. Gallagher was getting all sorts of hugs on CSN sportsnite. The kid has an opportunity to make over $10m in the next 4 years if he performs, got to be pretty exciting.
  6. They've been top 10 before and didn't spend it on the right people. The difference is the substantial increase they've allowed to be allocated for 2-3 years from now, when Trib no longer owns. Hendry has clearly gone for broke, as they have next to nothing on the farm to replace what's already up. And they've got a couple guys performing at $10+ million levels who are going to need to get paid if they keep them next year.
  7. Yes, he still has 1 left. Really? Huh. I was under the impression he was done with those after 11 years in the organization. Well, send him down then, he's not being used at all.
  8. Nothing to apologize for. He did an absolute piss poor job of generally managing the Cubs for several years and only began to turn things around when the ownership allowed for an increase in payroll matched only by a couple other teams.
  9. This and the Cleveland game from that year still has to be the most unbelievable back to back stretch in NFL history. i still owe my cousin a crap in the pants for that game...i was telling him to change the channel while saying "i'll ish my pants if they come back to win this one." we all know how it played out....kinda fitting that it was a game against the browns. I WAS AT THE BROWNS GAME... TOP MOMENT IN MY LIFE!!! STILL!!! FIRST BEARS GAME AT SOLIDER FIELD. Had to have been much more pleasant than my first (and only) game at Soldier Field. It was my freshman year in high school (1974) and I was in the high school band. We played in the stands at a game against the 49ers as a last-minute replacement (less than a week's notice) for a band that backed out. The weather was terrible (cold, windy, and rainy) and the Bears were getting blown out. We wound up leaving right after halftime when we were done playing. You're old. And a band nerd. HaHa! I was in the band too.
  10. Between 1:10 and 7:05. Cubs aren't in that window. You'll get the game. According to the directv extra innings schedule, the game will be shown on channel 696.
  11. You got to love Jim bringing up his obsession with LH bats during the Harden press conference. Mind giving some notes for those of us who don't have ESPNews? He praised Beane's professionalism and honesty in negotiations. Said he asked about Harden maybe 6 weeks ago, but things got a little more serious 10 days ago. He's got a pretty big smile. Gives Murton and Patterson a chance to get more playing time, and thinks Sean can be a really good starter for them right away. He's still in the mode he's always in which is constantly looking to improve the team (this seems to be a standard response for him, so I wouldn't take it as he's about to make another move or anything).
  12. You got to love Jim bringing up his obsession with LH bats during the Harden press conference.
  13. I was actually thinking that maybe putting Gallagher in the pen was a way to protect him while the finished off the rest of the deal. Maybe the last of the discussions was agreeing on Donaldson.
  14. 1.5/1 K/BB ratio in the bigs with seasons as poor as sub 1 and as good as this year's 2.6. Seems like a quintessential inconsistent reliever.
  15. i would agree with that. i just don't see this trade having the potential to bite the cubs in the ass. i guess gallagher has the highest ceiling of any of the guys leaving, and i don't see him as anything more than a #3. should have waited until after tonight's game so murton could hit against harang though. That's the thing. Even if we get 3 starts out of Harden, we aren't going to be pining for any of these guys. Marshall has a better future than Gallagher. We gave up the right kind of players That's very true, and for the right kind of a player. I believe all four of those guys can be average to above average major leaguers, but Harden is the only one with a legit shot at excellence.
  16. 3/2 on the 40 man front, means they can add somebody. I'm guessing only Marshall has options, which makes him the obvious choice to leave the current roster. I believe they've got to consider calling up a bat though.
  17. Wow, gutsy move by Jim. I wouldn't consider this an outright steal, because you can't negate the health questions. But it's a ballsy "go for it" type move that I have to applaud.
  18. What is this, a police shooting? Why do players need to be told before Dave Kaplan reports it?
  19. When was the last time the Cubs swept the Reds? I bet it has been awhile. July 2004. So, really, the last time they had a good team. 3-3 for each side this year. I'll be pretty surprised if the Cubs sweep the series. Somebody will take 2 of 3 with a close game deciding who takes the series. Although Harang and his 3-10 record and sore bicep doesn't give me a lot of hope for tonight. Yeah, I don't get why everyone is saying sweep. I'd guess the Cubs would take 2 of 3. Zambrano has struggled vs. the Reds and the 2nd game off the DL is always the one that worries me. Less adrenaline, less to "prove". Cueto seems to have found his early season magic too. It seems somebody always says they "see a sweep" or think the Cubs need a sweep.
