  1. Good point. The nearest deli does sell beer. I could grab one at lunch and keep it in the fridge. Although I think I had about 80-90 beers this weekend and 5 shots of tequila, some of that has to to still be in my system. Maybe I shouldn't push it.
  2. I expect my lineup will be something like this: Pre-game 2 beers 1st inning 1 beer 2nd inning 1 beer 3rd inning 1 beer 1 hot dog 4th inning 1 beer 5th inning 1 beer 1 food item TBD 6th inning 2 beers 7th inning 2 beers hopefully carrying me over to the 8th and 9th. The pre-game is a bit weak. True, but I'll only be getting into Shea about 10-15 minutes before gametime and there is nowhere out there to grab a beer outside. I could brown bag it on the subway, but the wife will complain about that.

  4. He hates white people.
  5. Well, Tillman is a part of that pass defense that couldn't stop Griese. I don't think anybody is putting the blame solely on Tillman, but he deserves fingers pointed his way. That was stupidity that has, unfortunately, been a familar site for Bears fans. What I don't get is putting a ton of blame on Orton. The INT TD was horrible, but Orton did as much as anybody could have expected coming into the season. Everybody said the defense was good enough to win games if the offense was just average, and the offense was more or less fine.
  6. Yeah, his grandmother should die more often. He's got to have other old relatives.
  7. It was not absolutely accurate. MLB has forced teams to play elsewhere in the past. These idiots thought it would have been perfectly fine to play 3 games after the regular season ends. They should have gotten out of there Friday, they have nobody but themselves (meaning players, coaches and owner) to blame.
  8. McNabb's looked meh the last 2 games, Westbrook's status I believe is up in the air as well. McNabb looked meh in Dallas?
  9. Sunday Night Football in Soldier Field. Philly is favored by 3 and I am actually a little surprised it wasn't more. The Bears pass defense is very easily shreddable, this one could get ugly in a hurry, and if they do fall to 1-3, they are going to have to pounce on the next four opponents, all winnable games, to stay in the race.
  10. gosh freaking darnit What a frustrating loss. They show just enough to make you think they can contend, but then the defense collapses at the end two games in a row. Stupid, stupid, stupid team.
  11. The key: Fans of teams long out of the race only care about what they can do this offseason to get better, and there's always a market for trade rumors.
  12. I'm sure he's talking about this offseason, none of those guys would have passed waivers.
  13. After week 1 I said I'd be all in on the Bears if they won in Carolina. The loss took some of the air out of the balloon, but I still have higher hopes for them than I did all offseason. But this is really a must win game if I'm going to keep any faith. If they can't beat Tampa, I don't think they can handle Philly, and then they'd be looking at 1-3. Tampa does nothing great, but they are good enough in most areas to win, but it's still a game that a contending Bears team would have to win.
  14. The guys I most want at the plate in a big spot are Ramirez, Soto, Edmonds and Fontenot. Jimmy's been more than alright. I love him long time.
  15. I think that's only in the AL. Really? That would be a strange rule to put in place if so. I thought they put it in place last year and that the choice would alternate between NL and AL. Thats correct. This year it is the NL's turn. The Cubs will get to pick which series they want. Huge advantage deciding which off-days they get. Longer spread out series or the quicker series in shorter days. MLB says otherwise. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/schedule/ps.jsp
  16. I got married in late October 2005, knowing full well the Cubs wouldn't be playing. When we started planning trips for this year, my wife knew the anniversary trip wasn't happening at the same time, even if it coincided with the Bears bye week. We've been invited to things throughout October and she just tells people, "It depends on the playoff schedule." I love her.
  17. I want to see a shirt that says, "people who were smart enough to get the hell out of Houston survived Ike just fine but for some reason we stayed around with our thumbs up our butts way too long and screwed ourselves."
  18. This happens all the time at Yankee Stadium. The way they number the sections/rows is really odd, and it screws people up. We had to make a group move from our seats one time, they went a section over to the same seats, and were moved from them because they were actually two sections down.
  19. That team was damn near unlikeable. Near? They well well above and beyond.
  20. Two things about Kosuke, he's coming off elbow surgery, and I believe Japan is much more of a fastball league, and they don't throw as many changes. Off speed off the plate was bound to fool him. But will it fool him forever? I doubt it. He's shown he is very capable of solid plate appearances. He can battle. He can turn on the ball and he can flick it to the opposite field. I think there were quite a few strike 1 called on him that were at best borderline, and it frustrated him. He bagan to widen his zone and was then lost. I would not expect that to last throughout his time here. If he puts in the effort, which I have no doubt he's willing to do, I think he will improve significantly in 2009.
  21. Basically. And he arguably got the job done by getting the batter to hit into a perfect DP ball that would have ended the inning that DeRosa completely screwed up. I think the trib article described his outing as an implosion. I just don't get that.
  22. He always struck me as somebody who liked to blame others whenever possible.
  23. I didn't see them, but weren't the four hits he gave up grounds balls and somewhat of a blooper? Part of that is just chance. It sucks when a pitcher gives up a hit, but the grounders are essentially exactly what you expect out of him. I do think he's on the verge of not making the team.
