  1. Instead of giving Theriot, Bradley and Lee a chance to drive the guy in from 2nd, you force Theriot to make an out and then pressure Bradley to hit a deep fly. I'd much rather just let both of those guys take normal approaches and just try and hit the ball. When you move that guy to 3rd with one out you are taking one of your more talented hitters who is just now coming out of a slump and asking him to do a very specific job, rather than swinging away when comfortable. I really hate that crap.
  2. why sac bunt? That leaves you one out to take advantage, instead of the three outs to get a hit.
  3. Sweet heroin addict goal celebration.
  4. Yeah, I'm sure he was just comforting her in her hour of need.
  5. which is weird, because he was doing great the first inning. Zambrano struggling to find the zone sould never be considered weird.
  6. He's 8-10 with a 2.67 GAA and .915 SV%, basically in the middle of everybody. Thomas and Hiller may have been the only candidates, but each of their teams lost in the 2nd round. I'm not saying goalies aren't important, I'm saying the emphasis on goalies winning cups for teams is overstated.
  7. How many years ago was that? He didn't have a lot in front of him the first couple years in Chicago. The perception of him was that he was finished though. Goalie is a very fickle position with NHL fans. Huet can easily become a fan favorite with a hot start next season. Personally I still think the Campbell signing is a much bigger future disaster for the Hawks. That's absolutely true, not only is it just a much bigger and longer contract, but at least at goalie you can try and overcome an overpaid vet with a potentially underpaid kid. You still need multiple other defensemen. One underpaid kid isn't going to help much.
  8. How many years ago was that? He didn't have a lot in front of him the first couple years in Chicago. So? He still was nothing special, and he couldn't stay on the ice. I don't get being upset at one guy for sucking over a few game stretch, but being perfectly fine with a guy who has to miss half the season for health reasons. Does anybody think Khabi would have been around for much of these playoffs if he didn't have Huet playing half the games? And your point just emphasized what I said before, it's the quality of the team that matters most. Even if Khabi was great earlier in his Hawks career, the team wasn't any good, and he wasn't able to carry them. The most important guys on the ice are the best skaters on each team. Pittsburgh wins because of Malkin and Crosby, Detroit wins because of the list of quality guys that's too long to name. Not one team was carried deep into the playoffs this year because of a goalie standing on his head. The best teams advanced, and many quality big name goaltenders looked pedestrian and their teams lost.
  9. I honestly don't see how anybody could have had all that high of hopes for him, or how he failed to live up to reasonable expectations.
  10. No, that one is as strong as ever. He strained his grit ligament and tore both his intangibles.
  11. Yeah, I'm hoping they're all over this. I'd be pretty skeptical seeing as Angelo has been pretty adamant about going with the WR we have now. Then again, he said that about the QB as well... Well, his first statement was that it starts with the QB. He backed off that one, but ended up going with his first feeling anyway. I think he felt all along it was about the QB and not the WR. He dabbled in free agent veterans last year and felt he got burned. Plus, you add in the drug thing and there's a good reason to believe he won't even look at cokeboy.
  12. You can't seriously believe that. I seriously can't see how you wouldn't. The Blackhawks have been outplayed, the entire team. It's not like Osgood has saved Detroit.

  14. Yeah, I'd be ecstatic to see them at least make the series interesting, plus it extends the time before I start paying more attention to the Cubs.
  15. I don't think it's overrated at all. I agree with Soul 100%. We hear about how it's the determining factor, yet for the 2nd straight year you are going to see Osgood and Fleury in the finals. The super star goalies did nothing impressive. No goalie led his team to the conference finals, let alone finals. The depth of the team is what matters. Having multiple quality defense and multiple lines that can score is what matters. Having a great goalie is nice, but it's not a must. You need a competent goalie and a deep team. Yeah but I can't get to a place where I see Huet as anywhere near an Osgood. Why? Huet is not a bad goalie, there is just nothing to support that. He's not a franchise guy, he's not great by any means, and his contract is disappointing. But I don't see how he is any worse than a guy like Osgood. Switch the two and I bet Detroit is still up 3-1.

  17. The fact that they were the worst running team in the game but still ranked 10th indicates they are giving a lot of credit to Manning (who probably isn't as good as he was at his peak).
  18. Could be low risk if they don't pay him much, but if he becomes the team's party planner that could take down a bunch of guys.
  19. I would think so. He's apparantly a day or two behind Lee on that illness timetable, which means he's probably unavailable today and tomorrow. If they ever do decide to get rid of the worthless 7th reliever, that could be Scales ticket back to the majors.
  20. If Scales is going to miss time with the illness, it's the right move, shame for him though if that somehow ends his major league service time.
  21. He's done being THE GUY back there but I think most believe he's got something left if used a little more sparingly. If they are talking about QB plus RB, SD certainly has an argument with Rivers and Sproles contributing to the equation.
