    It's not just Hendry, though. Traditional thinking tends to be that balance in a lineup is more important than having the best talent in the lineup. I remember numerous times last year and offseason when ESPN analysts would bemoan the lack of left handed hitting in the Cubs' lineup and that being why they lost to the Dodgers. Hendry is not alone in this thinking. The fact that other people think the same dumb way doesn't justify it.

    Rolen is hitting decently enough, but I'd worry that the Jays will ask a king's ransom for him. They're competing (for now) and he's producing, so he won't come cheap. And welcome to the board! They are falling fast and won't be able to contend with Boston or NYY for long, plus he makes a ton of dough. But he is signed through next season, which means the Cubs would have to do something with him, Lee or Ramirez by then, and I don't see that happening. I'd think Toronto would accept a reasonable offer for him, but Chicago would shy away from taking on his deal.

    If he ends up signing the guy after doing his homework they will run a story saying he reversed his stance on Jones.

    I think the only realistic way they can bring Havlat back may be for him to agree to a 1 year deal while awaiting a rebound in the economy. The cap declining hurts the Blackhawks, but at least they have avoided the struggles that other teams are enduring. There might not be a huge market for Havlat this summer. You'd have to have a team with cap space and financial health necessary to give him a 3/15-18 type deal that would take him away from Chicago (I'm guessing). In better times more teams might be willing to risk taking on such a huge injury risk longer term.

    Las Vegas is getting its ass kicked economically. Also, there is no baseball team in NJ (although one could prosper if built along the waterfront in Hudson county, the most densely populated county in the country), they are in NY. And the hangup is sports betting. There isn't any sports betting in NJ. There is in Vegas.

    How do you get Fox at 3B is coming..... out of that blurb? He's taking some balls out there and Lou has his doubts, if Trammel says the guy is okay he might get a look. But it doesn't say it's happening.

    Let Khabi walk, work on deals for the core guys, let the marketplace work itself out with Havlat and if the price is reasonable after he shops himself, consider bringing him back.

He's very talented. We won't move quickly. We have to do our homework. You have to look what he brings to the team on the field.

    Yeah, but do you still think he's bad? I never said he's anything special, but all indications are he's as good as any goalie needs to be to allow a quality team to succeed in the playoffs.

    I didn't get to see the game. Was there contact? It's hard to tell from that video. Doesn't seem like anything suspendable, but who knows these days. From that video it looks like Z pushed the ump away with his forearm. Def going to get 6 game suspension for sure, so he has to miss a start. I loved when Z decided to toss the umpire out. Hilarious. :) ESPNews had an angle that made it look like there was a brushing of arm skin. Anyway, 6 games isn't really missing a start, it's just pushing it back a day, unless they do something like hold an appeal and then release the final ruling the day before he's scheduled, then he could be out for 10 games and truly miss a start.

    I'm going to assume whatever suspension Zambrano gets will be appealed and not take place for a little while. But I'd bet they'd do what they can to try and make him miss a start, like making it 6 days or something. That could keep Marshall in the rotation a little longer.

    I'd rather just let the SOB pinch hit once a game. Even if the situation just calls for a guy who can get on base, let Fox be your first RH bat off the bench every game.

    Doesn't matter. A player doesn't have a right to stand in the ump's face and argue a call. If contact happens while the player is doing that, that's his own fault. That's not true. Players absolutey have the right to argue. They get away with it with regularity. Umps have been reprimanded for provoking incidents, it could happen again. Even if he didn't have the right to get in his face to argue the call MLB can't suspend Z for making contact when he didn't initiate it. They can do whatever they want though.

    Getting away with it and having the right to do it aren't really the same thing. Yes they are, the precedent has been set for decades that players are allowed to argue right in front of the ump.

    Lazy? Besides, if you think he's a piece of [expletive], it's nice that you still show him respect and call him "Mister." Yes, that kind of error by a major league outfielder is very much a lazy error. He's always been bad at fielding ground balls as an IFer or an OFer. It's less laziness and more just a weakness. No, that's a weakness based in laziness. It's a routine play he consistently screws up due to a lack of focus, which is laziness on a baseball field, as opposed to ability.
