  1. I'm getting Jose Quintana vibes, maybe not specifically with stuff, but with the "Cubs are desperate for guys who can competently throw innings at the major league level and this guy theoretically fits the bill but almost assuredly won't actually be a good starter over time."
  2. Really? This is like the 10th or 11th best season of my 40 year life. Don't even try to pretend like some of those early 90s Tribune owned teams were any fun beyond 2 or 3 players. Just a week ago they were 10 games over 500.The rosters we played with on the video games of the era were unimaginably dull. But this also reminds me of warning people about wanting some billionaire to buy the club. They aren't saviors and when things suck they still suck. Although this year's .519 W% is tied for 14th best with 3 or 4 other seasons in the past 40 years.
  3. In other distracting Blackhawks news, there's a lot of twitter chatter that the blackhawks are working to deal Keith out west to be closer to family as his career winds down. This has been the most obvious move in the rebuild era and probably is inevitable in some way shape or form.
  4. Prior to the game, no, it wasn't. After the 7-0 lead, you bet your bottom dollar it was must win.
  5. eh, toews was going to make an announcement like this sometime during the summer. I don't think it's really fair to assume he was part of a PR plot to take attention away from the story. If anything, it just draws more eyes to the Blackhawks and the sexual assault story is bigger than this
  6. Maybe other Sinclair owned stations aren't sending the crews on the road and they don't want to draw attention to the distinction?
  7. They went from 66 wins to 85 wins, so on a relative scale they were cool and amazing. But they weren't good until the following season. And Mike Fontenot was a perfectly cromulent contributor.
  8. details? I havent heard anything about it, only your post
  9. I don't really have anything to add other than McDonough seems like exactly the type of executive that would sweep this under the rug. I also don't think Bowman can skate on this. He wasn't some underling with no say in the organization. I also don't really care about the "cloud over the cups" side of the story.
  10. Running through the house with a pickle in her mouth
  11. its the all star game lol its not like it's gonna be hard to tell who is who I won't recognize 90% of the players. Of course, I also won't be watching the all star game because non-Cubs baseball is impossible for me to watch on television.
  12. Well to answer your question it should be an HBO show with the cast of Righteous Gemstones sitting right there. Tim Baltz is perfect for the lead.
  13. first rule of horsefeathers your pastor club is don't talk about horsefeathering your pastor.
  14. living on the west coast for 12 years, I learned awhile ago that it is FAR easier to tell people I am from "northern Illinois", but when the reply is "Chicago??" I say yes. the reason is it takes too much time and far too irrelevant to anything in my life to go into a long description of where I actually grew up. I never have lived in the Chicago metro area. Seattle area, San Francisco area, LA/San Fernando valley, Minneapolis and Madison I have all called home, but never Chicago. So, how infuriated would you all feel about that? Do you still tell people you're FROM there? Or is that more of a response to where you're born? I waited until I spent more than half my life (and had kids born) here before I’d say I’m from New Jersey. But that was only in a vacation or similar situation.
  15. I dont hate it, but I also don't feel it's a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination. It's almost disappointing, save the Marquee Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, even if it's bad and the person is an archetect. I tend to agree that from the outside wrigley only looks good from maybe 2 angles. Thankfully it isn't sitting in the middle of a parking lot though so you are forced to only see it up close and personal, where it doesn't look bad.
  16. And that small minority of people are wrong. People should work harder in school. The "Chicago" in that middle pic incorporates some of the most rural places in the state.
  17. People from the city of Chicago get upset when a person from the suburbs says they are from Chicago whether they're talking to a person from Illinois, New York or England. It's very goofy horsefeathers. The city is the city though and Arlington Heights makes Evanston look like the Loop. That middle pic is pretty crazy.
  18. Soldier Field is much better looking than MetLife
  19. I've never purchased land let alone of this magnitude, but submitting a bid feels like more than posturing to me. Announcing that you have made a bid is absolutely posturing. It could lead to something, but generally speaking organizations do not announce their intentions to pay for transparency reasons.
  20. I too am in no rush to get back to the office after working from home
  21. I don't know why people don't believe Nagy here. He's been pretty clear about trying to repeat the Mahomes experience. Odds are Dalton will force his hand earlier than Alex Smith did, but the odds of Fields starting game 1 are low.
  22. What exactly is your concern?
