  1. Yeah, it's all arbitrary, injuries just happen it has nothing to do with pitching more than others especially at a young age. Dusty can destroy pitchers in their early 20's he's done it before and he'll do it again.
  2. I think he had a little case of the being Kevin Gregg. He's jut doing what he does, which is being a run-of-the-mill reliever who can't consistently pitch well. It's hard to compare a "normal" year for him considering he spent the last two years in Miami compared to the more homer happy Wrigley. He was pretty unimpressive before he got to south Florida. Moving to Wrigley has not been the reason for the change in his HR rate. He's given up as many HR's in Florida this year as he has in Wrigley. And in the previous 2 years in Florida, he gave up 5 HR at home, 5 HR away. I didn't say it was the reason. I said it's tough to talk about what is and is not a normal season for Gregg. He wasn't good until he went to Florida, and when he became good he didn't stay good for long. He came out of nowhere to rack up save totals and become a "proven closer" and then lost the closing job. He's a reliever, and he's not a dominant one. So inconsistency should be expected, not looked at as flukish.
  3. I'm not sure how that could possibly be true. I mean, a 1 run lead is a 1 run lead no matter how many runs it took to get there. Gregg's offense already bailed him out Saturday night. Improvement by the offense would be nice overall, but I don't really see how it has anything to do with Gregg's performance. If he blows a lead he blows a lead.
  4. I do not understand this line of thinking. How are the Cubs not in a position where they can give guys a chance to develop into effective big league players? Where are you going to play them on a regular basis, in order for them to develop? Most of the year they have been languishing in AAA. The Pirates are configured to the point where they can take more luxuries with allowing them to go through growing pains without affecting the overall outcome of their season. In Hart's situation, he is headed back to the minors as soon as Lilly is off the DL. Ascanio had brief call ups, and didn't immediately impress Cubs brass, therefore relegating him to IA. With the Pirates, I presume he will be given a much longer leash. Just because the people who make the decisions for the Cubs haven't chosen not to try and make it work doesn't mean you can't make it work. Every team has to introduce young players to the team and let them develop. To insinuate that the Cubs aren't in a position to do that is just inaccurate. They absolutely can, they just choose not to.

  8. They better not even think about signing a free agent "closer". It's just a made up position that gets way over compensated on the free agent market. Every year guys come out of relative obscurity to prove themselves as closer, and then lose all their value once they start getting paid. Just keep bringing in live arms from the system and acquire the occasional cheap vet if you must.
  9. Shame about Jackson, I was hoping he'd win the opportunity to run that team into the ground.
  10. Koyie Hill better not even think of going to the Clevelander this weekend, or the beach. He might evaporate.
  11. Kill me now that would be the worst thing that's ever happened to anything, in history. I don't even want to live anymore. Ill shoot you if you shoot me, deal? We need a third party in case one of us misses or is slow on the trigger.
  12. Kill me now that would be the worst thing that's ever happened to anything, in history. I don't even want to live anymore.
  13. Not necessarily. It depends on what part of the door frame.
  14. What's the state bird of Tennessee? Did he kill one?
  15. I can picture his gimpy cankled body moving all over the place while saying that.
  16. I am going to be so pissed if the Cubs face Peavy in the World Series. Oh wait, no I won't because that will mean the Cubs are in the World Series. How dumb of me for even thinking that. Sorry guys, nevermind.
  17. the days of zambrano, wood, and prior are long gone. Zambrano is still on the team, and they are still a high K team, and have been with or without Wood and Prior contributing.
  18. It's kind of hard to say you aren't trying to take the moral high ground when you cry out that he's cheated the game you love.
  19. There were rumors a week or so ago that the Cubs were interested in him. Zaun is much better offensively as well. Zaun 2009 OPS: .748 Hill 2009 OPS: .604 I'm confused as to the intent of this post. I was highlighting how much better Zaun is offensively than Koyie. Oh, I get it now, the MUCH, and then the lack of much.
  20. Yeah something tells me Chuck Wasserstom isn't the one with the biggest input into Cubs decision making. Okay? Just to review: Most anyone looking at Gorzelanny statistically would agree he's a pretty good buy low option. Someone with the knowledge of UK suggesting Gorzelanny's stuff is as good as it was in '07(his best MLB year), as well as saying that Gorzelanny and Rothschild are a good fit. Littlefield, who has a worthy reputation as a talent evaluator, drafted Gorzelanny, and recommended him after seeing him pitch recently. All of those mesh together. If you're afraid because of Littlefield's evaluation then you have to question all of those evaluations, and that's irrational. I don't have to question anything, I do question Littlefield's judgement. If you think that is irrational, you don't understand the meaning of the word irrational.

  22. Playoff births are inconvenient, but still joyous and wonderful. I found this very amusing.
  23. For some reason I kind of like Koyie Hill. I don't really have a problem with a bad hitting backup who makes the minimum and plays solid defense. It helps when your starter is production.
  24. Yeah something tells me Chuck Wasserstom isn't the one with the biggest input into Cubs decision making.
  25. Hill is a better backup catcher than any other backups that are available. Gregg Zaun is light years better. Hill shouldn't be in the pros. I don't agree that Hill shouldn't be in the pros. He's a good to very good defensive catcher who hits about like most backup catchers do. Zaun is much better, though. Hill was really good in AAA. AAA is professional baseball. Hill has all the right in the world to be in the pros.
