  1. That's a major miscalculation by the White House.
  2. In all honesty, I can't possibly think how Rio would be able to pull off a decent Olympics. I was there last year, and really enjoyed it, but it's a dump. As a fomer Chicagoan I'm sure I'm biased, but I really don't think Rio can stand up to Chicago on the merits. Votes are happening now. Chicago is now out of the running.
  3. I think the Hawks wants to cover themselves because of the jet lag that will happen when the Hawks return to the states. I suspect a week after return either backup will be gone. I read that they are allowed an extra man for the games in Finland, so I assume one will be gone before the Red Wings game. Jet lag shouldn't really come into play. They'll be back on Sunday and don't play until Thursday night, and they'll be flying first class.
  4. That doesn't make much sense. The sale is all but over. That was an excuse the last two years, but no longer. Jim Hendry has been in this organization for well over a decade, a very influential personel man for nearly a decade and in complete control for 7+ seasons. He's been a disappointment. The fear of a worse GM is pointless. Most GMs don't get the financial benefit that Hendry has had. As long as they don't go out and sign Jim Bowden or some retread bum, they should be able to improve. This is a disappointing organization that hasn't won nearly as many games as they should have given their competitive advantages.
  5. Why is it reaching? Hendry is the paid professional. He's supposed to be able to see the upside these guys have. He's the one constantly looking for bullpen help. Why shouldn't he be criticized for letting quality arms go for crap when he's constantly bringing in others?
  6. That was Peter King though, and he's consistently much higher on the Bears. Don Banks has been pretty consistently down on the Bears. Peter King is kind of schizo with the Bears. He fluctuates betweer too much hate and too much love.
  7. I assume the 3 goalie thing is going to be short-term, but what's the point?
  8. I don't buy the mailing it in theory, but I'm not a fan of going into next season with Lou as lame duck manager. It would be more cost effective for Ricketts to eat Hendry and Lou's deals and keep Bradley than the other way around.
  9. There had to be a couple games that ended late, like well after 10. Then its a half hour of press stuff and a good 20-30 minute shower/changing followed up by some beers. I could see them being there until 1am on occasion. Of course they aren't going to figure out how to fix things with a coaching strategy session but they have to justify their salaries somehow.
  10. And they were playing meaningless baseball long before that day.
  11. I am. Why take away any snaps from this young WR corps when all we've seen of them is good performance and progress on a week to week basis? I don't want an old and bad WR who used to be good on the roster. And I don't want to hear anything about veteran leadership and taking the young guys under his wing, because that couldn't be any further from the type of guy Marvin is. I would have to agree with you on this one.
  12. What could have been. What could HAVE been. yea yea, you got me there. :P Everything didn't literally go wrong this year. Aram missing 50 or so games along Bradley' terrible start, turn both of those around and I believe the Cubs are at least the wild card entry if not the Central winner. I didn't say things didn't go wrong, I said everything didn't go wrong. It's really pointless to note that stuff. Bradley played more games than most people assumed and wasn't far off his career rates. And Aramis gets injured every year. If you are the Cubs you have to build teams to deal with Aramis missing games.
  13. Yeah, but we won't gain a draft pick when the Cards or Brewers sign Rich Harden to reasonable 2yr deal. Why is that? The Cubs are too afraid to offer arbitration.
  14. I've seen the line move from 11 to 10.5 to 10 already. Not many people willing to give that many points. I think the Bears cover here. First really solid win of the year.
  15. What could have been. What could HAVE been. yea yea, you got me there. :P Everything didn't literally go wrong this year.
  16. Am I alone in the thought that a team takes on the identity of its' coach? Are you discounting that entirely? I'm sure you're not alone but I'd just like to say I think that's a completely meaningless statement. Are the White Sox a bunch of ranting lunatics? I don't think so. Guillen has been there a long time and I don't see how they've taken on his identity.
  17. That's a journeyman. The fact that he didn't play for Minnesota doesn't matter, he's 25 and with his 3rd organization.
  18. I'm not necessariliy criticizing the move, more the fact that they put themselves in this position. Chad was never going to be the longterm solution. He's a brittle guy with a weak arm and he's missed big chunks of time in most of his seasons. That's 3 straight 2nd round picks on a QB and now some sort of draft pick for another, and they still don't have a clear QB of the future.
  19. Miami has used a 2nd rounder on a QB in three consecutive drafts, and signed a veteran before last season, and they still need to go out and trade for a crappy veteran journeyman? That is Bear-like.
  20. There are a few systems where it works. There must be 1, 3, 5, etc. going on at once. The Bob Costas' system is one in which it does work. It is the major hurdle in the 15/15 system. It works, and it's not that hard.
  21. This has letdown game written all over it, for the Lions. They did a lap around the field high fiving fans after a win against the Redskins. It's understandable, but it's not the sign of a team poised to maintain that momentum into a tough road environment. 11 is a lot of points, but that's Vegas doing it's best to get people to take Detroit.
  22. Opening night at noon, sweet.
  23. The fans already booed him every step he took. The status quo was unacceptable. They couldn't just have Milton repeatedly insulting the organization and the fans, refusing to play and fighting with personel. It's a perfectly valid suspension and it's laughable that you think otherwise. Every team knew the Cubs/Milton relationship was growing sour, the fact that Hendry acknowledged it with a suspension is meaningless. Guys can't be given all the rope they want. At some point in time, you have to call them out. He didn't screw up a damn thing.
