  1. Tigers wife attacked him
  2. I'm fairly certain I would do that, but I really doubt Zambrano gets traded anywhere.
  3. You've explained yourself but it doesn't hold up to much reasoning. It's clearly not a "he sold out bradley, trade him" article, but you are ignoring the main point for no good reason.
  4. But that goes along with the theme that Theriot had value as a younger cheaper version of himself, but is in the process of losing that value. It made sense to like him then and like him less the more money he made without getting better.
  5. I think it's fairly common practice to write articles based on mostly factual data peppered with the occasional subjective anecdote. I really don't see the problem with it. If that was the main point of the article I'd agree. But I read it as symbolic of the "Theriot was a nice young cheap player who filled a role for a couple years, but his value is evolving and should be traded sooner rather than later."
  6. I thought you were going to say: work something out where Philly doesn't have to play in the winter classic.
  7. Q coached playoff teams have pretty much the same track record as San Jose, so be careful what you say. Blackhawks beat expectations and made it to conference finals last year, so I'm not sure that matters much.
  8. You're paying for a seat to watch the game. Just like paying for a movie ticket. Whether the game/movie/concert sucks is irrelevant. You paid money to watch an NFL game and received that entertainment. Sure you're paying for the hope of being listened to but it's not going to do anything. It's a billboard in the suburbs. It's just an antiquated, pointless exercise that I think is dumb. It is hardly irrelevant whether the game/movie sucked. Sure, legally they can hold onto your money, but it's not unprecedented to get money back when the product doesn't match expectations. They got the attention they apparently wanted, so I'm not sure how antiquated it could be. I'm sure people in charge have at least heard of it. Whether they will do anything is beside the point. In the end a large group of people spent relatively small individual sums of money to make a statement. You can be a jerk and call them stupid all you want, but it seems to me that goals were met.
  9. You should have left the Bradley part out. It taints everything else you wrote by making it appear it was the only reason you wrote the article in the first place. It's actually very relevant to the discussion. A lot of people wanted Bradley run out of town because of his character (or lack thereof). Why shouldn't Theriot's character come into question for the way he handled the situation? I thought the article was supposed to be about valid reasons for Theriot being traded, but I guess it is simply sour grapes. As misguided as it would be to demand trading Theriot because of his response to the Bradley situation (and I don't think anybody has done that), it's equally foolish to dismiss calls to trade him because of some assumed misguided reasoning.
  10. http://bearfansunited.org/ I'm all for the sentiment, but what a waste of money. I don't think it's a waste of money, but then again it is not my money. It's a waste of money because you get no benefit from it. It accomplishes nothing. You don't receive a service, good or entertainment. I guess you could point and say "Ha ha that's awesome we got that billboard" so if you're an idiot you get enjoyment from it. There's nothing wrong with doing it, it's just dumb. Again, same thing with season tickets, no benefit, no service good or entertainment. What you are paying for is the hope of being entertained, whereas here you are paying for the hope of being listened to.
  11. Yeah see, I'm not sure I believe that's what happened though. I'm guessing a select few contributed a lot more money than that. I just don't think they got 700 people to donate $5 each. But it's cool. It's their money, and I suppose I've spent money in worse ways. I'm sure some individuals spent more. But what about the thousands they may be paying for season tickets? What's the bigger waste?
  12. Why are we acting like Theriot verbally raped Milton, his kids, wife, and mother? I don't see his comments as being that awful. (unless there is more to it that I haven't seen, which is very possible) I'm not sure what comments you are referring to, but Theriot was the centerpiece of the teammates who were quoted all over the place about Milton. Dempster said some things, but also said something about welcoming him back which sounded like BS but served its purpose. I think Ramirez had the classiest response, acknowledging that Milton had issues but more importantly stating it was meaningless and had no effect on the season. Some of these guys sounded more than willing to feed into the nonsense that Milton's attitude somehow contributed to the team struggling. I was just referring to the quotes from the story linked above. I guess the larger point is that I don't think it matters one bit what Theriot thought of, or said about MB, when it comes to evaluating his place on the ballclub. In the grand scheme of things, no it doesn't.
  13. http://bearfansunited.org/ I'm all for the sentiment, but what a waste of money. Doesn't sound like it's their money, or all that much to begin with. The tally on the right has them at around $5k. And my belief is these fan campaigns usually have little to no impact. Any amount of money spent on it is a waste, imo. I kind of agree, but it looks like they were taking donations and the sign cost 3500. If a bunch of people donate $5 to a cause that calls out the bad coach, nobody is really wasting any significant amount of money.

  15. I highly doubt that. I think the cubs asked for more than just Cabrera. If all the cubs asked for was Igawa and cabrera for Zambrano? I'm pretty sure the yankees would've said yes. that would've been a bad trade for the cubs. I'm guessing the cubs maybe asked for hughes, chamberlain or Cano in the deal. According to Heyman, the cubs asking price was too high, asking for Igawa and Cabrera is not a high asking price. I'm going to assume even the Cubs weren't stupid enough to offer Zambrano for Igawa and Cabrera. Thats pretty much my point, you can say Zambrano is overpaid but he is worth way more than just an average Cf and a highly overpaid lefty. Where did you hear that this was the offer? You are the only one I've read who has said it. I didn't see Zambrano's name mentioned.

  18. What is going to be the longest TD run or pass of the game by the Vikings? I'm guessing 81 yard pass.
  19. I think the point of the discussion is that if someone is going to act as the team spokesman, please be someone really good, like Derrek Lee or Aramis Ramirez. That's way better than someone who only has the job because the team doesn't have someone better to play that position. I see your side of it, but I guess I don't think Theriot is intentionally putting himself out there to bash Bradley. He was asked about it and gave his opinion on the situation. I'd figure any Cub being interviewed would get the same question. Now, if Theriot was the one bringing the subject up in interviews, that would be a different story, but you have to know the question is going to be asked, and not just to him. I understand the concerns about Theriot no longer being a "cheap" source of production, but I still think the difference between him and a guy like Blanco (offensively speaking) is still a rather large gap that shouldn't be discarded without any other lineup improvements. It bothers me that a guy that can do no wrong in the eyes of 95% of the public was repeatedly critical of a guy who could do no right in the eyes of 99% of the public. Theriot should be on his knees thankful for the love he gets and shut up about his teammates, and it doesn't help when a teammate willingly calls out a player that is likely to be traded.
  20. Gibson? Really? He was number 22 right? He and Rose were the only guys who stood out as talented, not that he stood out all that much. Hinrich looks bad, Miller looks bad (why was he the featured shooter late in the game?), Noah looks effective but extremely clumsy and ugly. I forgot about Deng, he looked pretty good from time to time, but it seemed like he was out there the entire time and didn't do a heck of a lot. Maybe that's unfair, and of course this is the impression of a guy who knows very little about basketball. That Salmons guy is a joke. I didn't understand why people thought a couple months of nice play after the trade meant he should become the go to guy.
  21. My impression is what I thought I heard about him pre-playoffs.
  22. As a team that is aggressively pushing the defense first mentality, I can't see that happening. Whether he's bad, weak, average or above average, it's safe to say he's not good. If they're looking to trade Jose Lopez, they could acquire Theriot and move him to second - where he'd be pretty good defensively. In theory he'd be better, but he hasn't played much 2nd for years, still has no range and the arm would be an issue when turning double plays. I'd prefer to move him there yesterday, but there's no gaurantee he'd be a plus defender there.
  23. Her articles are all puff pieces. It's PR, not journalism. The fact that it takes effort is meaningless. That (PR) is what she's paid to do. It's kind of dumb to criticize her for doing her job. Even if she wanted to write and publish something that criticized the Cubs, she wouldn't be allowed to and the negative part of the story would be cut out. Just because it's her job doesn't mean you can't criticize her work. It's a columnists job to offer an opinion that drives readership, even if it's a dumbass opinion. Can I not criticize the dumbass opinion because he's doing his job.
  24. I believe they ended up in the hands of Liberty Media after all the Time Warner, TBS, Ted Turner fallout and whatnot. Unlike Turner Media, or even Tribune, Liberty Media can't have much if any reason to give a crap about the results of the Atlanta Braves. Yeah, they've been in the process of dicing payroll for a couple of years or so. Wren should probably take them into a bit of a rebuilding process, but his current goal appears to be mediocrity until they increase payroll again. They've done that a couple times this decade I believe. Very difficult to have a longterm plan with such up and down payroll movement. Hendry complains about not being able to add much, imagine what he'd do if he actually had to cut payroll.
  25. As a team that is aggressively pushing the defense first mentality, I can't see that happening. Whether he's bad, weak, average or above average, it's safe to say he's not good.
