    Yes, he's missed them due to injury, then returned. But this is a whole new story, and the time off could help him, as well as help his reputation.

    That was absolutely the only thing I cared about. I think he'll still be back before The Masters. Actually it could make a lot of sense for him to skip a major, just to remind golf how important he is to the game. This has gone on during the offseason and he's missed some meaningless stuff, but if he misses big tournaments, that becomes the story and people will be begging for his return.

    That is why I didn't like seeing him signed to a "harmless" minor league contract. First you got the media going all "idiots" on them, and then you run the risk of the team actually buying into that chemistry/experience/champion/player nonsense.

    Why does the media have the right to demand an apology? Or the corporations for that matter? He didn't break the law, he didn't (to my knowledge) break his contracts with his sponsors, he didn't cheat at golf.....what's to apologize for? I honestly don't understand how people keep going back to this nonsense. It's just like all the "we should not care about this stuff" when it first came out. The guy makes his living selling himself and his public persona. That leaves him open to scrutiny of his private life, including things like getting in car accidents after altercations relating to his wife finding out that he banged 30 porn stars. We aren't prying into a situation where a guy had an affair. He didn't have to apologize or say anything if he didn't want to. But he wants to play the game (and I'm not just talking about the game of golf) and part of that means he damn well should say something.

    Was he talking about how the public would react, or how he would react? Cause he's probably right about the public. Golf's about as WASPy as it gets. I actually think it was more of a personal plea, not a "this is how you get on the public's side again" statement.

    Cards would be 2nd, no? In terms of titles. I think the concept of storied combines a lot of things, like history, well known players, popularity and or fan awareness, success, iconic nature of the stadium. etc.

    No, I don't think they can just do whatever they want. But it's still judged by humans, which is ridiculous for any sport. It's why the moguls event was disappointing even though the action itself is quite cool (blowing away figure skating). now you're the one dealing in subjectivity. skiing, imso, is awesome to do but moguls are incredibly boring to watch. i prefer the downhill and super g. and i'd rather watch skating than some made-up subjective nonsensical sport like halfpipe even though i enjoy snowboarding, too. How am I being subjective? Figure skating sucking is a fact. Moguls by themselves can be boring to watch, but the moguls with the jumps are pretty amazing, and I think the sport might be better if they just made it about how fast you get down with required jumps that aren't judged. And snowboard halfpipe is really boring, except for seeing how much higher whathisface gets.

    I can name a whole bunch that are a whole lot less storied (obviously a subjective thing)... :confused: From the black sox stuff to all the bill veeck stuff, I think they have their share of baseball lore... They were one of the charter franchises of the American League, have won 3 world titles, play in a top-3 media market and have several hall-of-fame players. They're certainly not top 4 (Yanks, Red Sox, Cubs, Dodgers), but probably top 5-10. Those five, plus Reds, Cardinals, Tigers, Giants and I guess Philly and Baltimore, and maybe Pittsburgh, make up the top of the most storied franchises. The White Sox are probably ahead of Detroit, Baltimore and Pittsburgh, plus maybe Philly on that list.

    curling looks like an awesome drunk sport, i agree. but i have to take issue with the subjective nonsense, judges can tell who is good and who isn't. It's still subjective nonsense, telling who is good and who isn't has nothing to do with judging who is best.

    singles figure skating is like one of the marquis events of the olympics, though. And American Idol is popular, doesn't make it right. meh, i've always watched figure skating, i have no idea why. but people are getting worked up about curling of all things, too. Curling looks fun, and funny, and isn't judged by subjective nonsense.

    I don't see why that's Cubs BS. For about 1-2 hours on one day a year they have a huge amount of demand for a limited number of tickets. But it's not hard to get in and get a ticket. This isn't going on amazon and buying a book with virtually unlimited printings, or even the first day that tickets go on sale for the Pirates. I think all in all things are handled fairly well.

    I'm almost there with you. Once again the Cubs follow their typical B.S. on ticket day. If you are out of the VWR it shouldn't take forever to buy a damn ticket. The 2nd waiting room is worst then the first for god sake. Yay, it just kicked me into the VWR again for their incompetence. Why is this Cubs BS?
