    Most humble dude out there, he'd have to be considered in the running for SI sportsmen of the year, and SI has been pushing the Blackhawks hard since last summer.

    Seabrook and Hossa were the two best Hawks, for at least the last three rounds.

    No, he was in the process of calling a goal, but stopped when there was no light. He reacted to Kane's reaction, as did I. There was a half second where 3-4 Hawks sticks were raised in the air, but then the pause.

    because what he did in AA two years ago could be indicative of how he plays in chicago. is that such a hard concept to wrap your head around? Colvin became better at baseball in his early 20's. It's not that shocking. In under 100 scattered PA, you absolutely do not know that.

    He's got a nice resume, mostly from over a decade ago. But again, give me an impact Chicago Cub before I ignore the craziness of drafting a 4-7 round guy that might go in round 2, in the middle of round 1.

    Who said you can't question Wilken's pick? Basically everybody has done nothing but question the Simpson pick. However, most realize he's brought in some very talented players with high upsides into our system, know his track record of bringing in guys like Halladay, Carpenter and Rios into the Blue Jays' system, and are willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I don't see why questioning a pick, but giving a guy with a very good track record the benefit of the doubt is that bad. all the media stories leading up to today were, colvin made it, we were wrong. And a lot of what people have written in the last 18 hours is, well, he has earned the benefit of the doubt.

    The point is it's idiotic to say, well Colvin has started well, everybody was wrong about him and Wilken was right, therefore you cannot question a pick regardless of whether or not it was a huge reach. Wilken seems more interested in proving people wrong than drafting the best player.

    A guy who signs a contract is a pro. Colvin has been a pro since the day he signed, and he's been bad for the vast majority of that time. He's had some surprising success in very limited major league time, but nothing he did as a minor leaguer suggest he will maintain this rate, especially if he starts everyday. As for wilken, I'm still waiting for his first pick that actually has a significant impact with the Cubs. Cashner is nice, but if he's only a reliever, that's not going to cut it. If he does turn into a legit major league starting pitcher, great.

    yeah, i don't get the "well, i trust wilken, he hasn't let us down so far" line. if his 1st round success stories are a fourth outfielder and a middle reliever, i'm not going to be too wowed. Tyler Colvin could and should be starting and Cashner is about to become are setup man and he's only been up for a week. And Brett Jackson is already one of our better prospects. I would say he's done a pretty good job so far. could and should is meaningless. He's been a bad pro, and his success has been very limited. He could very easily be exposed if he starts. and first round picks should not be setup men.

    It happens in every other draft, so I don't see why it can't happen in baseball. You see people trade up 1 or 2 spots in the NFL draft every year to steal a player. Those moves aren't based on a hunch. Every pick ever taken was taken before somebody else had a chance and every team was happy their guy fell to them.

    He has, but it's a playoff award, and his reputation was so down the first few rounds that he needed to go on a scoring tear to win it. A huge game might help.

    Why are so many people so willing to assume he was right with colvin? Tyler has been a bad pro for most of his career, and he has a handful of quality pa in selected opportunities this year. Let's give it some time before we just assume it all worked out for the best. Shark is still terrible, bitters has done nothing except convince them to keep promoting him without the numbers to justify the fast track. Cashner looks great but we knew he could relieve, and he hasn't started much. Jackson looks good, but I believe not quite what he was on first impression last year. The cubs have drafted lots of guys who can make the majors but the top of the draft is for impact players, not people you think have a chance to be a starter.

    I have not heard him emphatically refuse to waive his NTC. And I doubt very much now it's about being close to home. He's a big boy, and he's a couple states away from home playing many of his games out west. I'm sure being local mattered at the time, but getting a NTC is a great negotiating power for any player. He knew Hendry was desperate to get him to give up the NFL, so he got the NTC. But I'm sure his biggest desire is to be pitching in the major leagues instead of Des Moines.

    i dont understand your posts. why are we nuts? because we're being unbiased in our assessment of the series so far. the flyers have played us evenly for 3 straight games and are giving us all sorts of problems. i'm not sure how that's not a concern to you. Because you all sound like a bunch of panicky eric's in a game thread lamenting an already lost series. While the Blackhawks are up 2-1.

    A great team playing at less than their best being up 2-1 is hardly justification for being worried about that level of play. Philly mucks it up, and it's gotten them one win in three games. Congrats. But they felt lucky to get out of game 3 with a win, believe me. Their fans were not the least bit confident at the end of regulation or going into overtime. you're basing that on what? considering the hawks got raped the entire 3rd period, i'd say rational philly fans were probably pretty confident. and i don't understand how you could say that the flyers playing us evenly for 3 games isn't justification for being worried about that level of play. I'm basing that on my attendance at the game. That place was rocking for the first period, but tense and not happy late. They were relieved to win. The bulk of the comments I overheard related to be relieved that they actually won a game and didn't get swept. Yesterday I heard a whole bunch of "I hope they can at least push it to Game 7 to give them a chance."

    Why do we know Chicago is better? I sure haven't seen it on the ice. When the game is on the line, at the very least the last two games, Philadelphia has completely and utterly dominated. That's nonsense. Philly has managed to muck it up, but they haven't looked all that good. And they weren't all that impressive the rest of the playoffs. They have managed to partially hold back the superior Chicago talent with their style of play and the help of some dubious calls, but that has still only gotten them one win in three games.

Philly has been at their best for three games, it's not all that impressive and they don't have another gear. Chicago has been a bit ho-hum, and they are up 2-1. They should win 2 of 3 again soon. i'm not saying it's likely, i'm just asking "what if?". that would suck, considering he's the main reason we're up 2-1. The fact that Chicago is better is the main reason.
