    I don't think it will be tough for them to justify expensing nights out in Manhattan. Yeah? Even if that media is NY based? How would they justify spending the companies dime on spending a night out in the town they live/work in? Most of the media is not based in NY. And the ones in NY still expense their work related functions.

I think it's funny that people are pretending nobody will want to go to NJ in February, when they will actually be travelling to NYC, where millions of people are always willing to travel to. One of the benefits of February here is smaller crowds post-Christmas/holiday tourism and pre-spring time tourism. Oh well, one year won't hurt. Also people complaining about the game being more favorable to lesser teams if played in elements should acknowledge the fact that games can be more favorable to a lesser team if played in a dome as well. If you need a dome and perfect conditions to play at your best, perhaps you aren't as good as you thought.

    Mo made headlines at $10m. Starters blow past that level with regularity. There's one closer per team, and only a handful of mega millionaires. There's all sorts of starters who get that money.

    I think those are generally referred to as the mid-atlantic states, also Delaware valley area.

    Not sure if you are joking, but Delaware is right next to Philly, and Wilmington (Delaware's biggest city) is pretty much a suburb of Philly. Not joking...just apparently bad with New England geography. In my head, I figured Delaware would be more of a Capitals or Devils fanbase than Flyers. But yeah...I guess not... And I swear NJ wasn't red when I just looked at that....haha. New England?

    You were expecting more Chicago? Philly is a hockey town. It's a football first town, but the Flyers probably have the second most passionate fan base. They have big rivals with NJ/NY (and others) so I'm sure fans of those teams are well aware how much of a hockey town Philly is. The Phillies were largely ignored until the WS season. Although the fans I know are the most annoying ever, as they never pay attention until their team is good and or in a championship and then they are the biggest bunch of crap talking goons in the land.

    New Jersey is a state too dammit! Not that weird. People are picking the Hawks 2/1, that is likely to hold in every state outside the base of Philly fan support.

    That doesn't prove your point at all. That was the best team in the league. You don't have to be the best team in the league to make the playoffs and win some. Sure, they may struggle to win or make a Super Bowl. But let's not pretend you aren't making noise if you aren't in the Super Bowl. And so? That's my point. It was suggested that an average offense would require nothing short of a top 5 defense. 10-6 and a playoff win would have to be considered a successful season and should be applauded. You don't need a top 5 defense to pull that off.

    I think that's where potentially an argument could be made. Playing devils advocate here, but how many hard throwing starting pitchers would be able to be unhittable if they only pitched one inning at a time? Certainly there'd be plenty that couldn't make the transition, but still...you have to think his role as a reliever helps him with those stats. That said, he's crazy good...not really trying to diminish that. I think there aren't as many hard throwing starting pitchers that could make that transition as you think. Many starting pitchers struggle in their first inning. Obviously, in All Star games and the playoffs it happens, but I doubt if very many of them could do it consistently. Maybe they struggle early because they are purposefully holding back as they have to pace themselves for 6+ innings and 100+ pitches instead of going balls to the wall for 15-25 pitches.

    We don't have the greatest special teams in the history of the game this season. Right, but that was the best team in the NFC. My point is 15/8/5 should still be good enough to stay in contention.

    No way. An average offensive attack will allow much more leeway than a top 5 defense. Look at the playoff teams from year to year. I've seen this data compiled. If your offense is ~15 and that team was successful most of the time the D was in the top 5 or close. Maybe top 10 but then you're starting to push it and the chances of playoffs drops significantly. If the Bears are 15th in offense and 8th in defense, I have a hard time thinking they won't be able to "make some noise". They were 15th in offense and 5th in defense in 2006 and were the best team in the NFC. Arizona had an average offense and average defense and won 10 games + their division. They can't get away with below average on either side, since they aren't likely to be good enough on the other to make up for it. But an average offense and an above average defense will give them a shot and doing good things, especially with top special teams.

    You can get high 50's and sunny. But you can also get 38 degrees and rain. The problem, especially around the Meadowlands, is winds. A 40 degree day can be completely tolerable, but not when it's windy, and not when it's rainy and windy.

    Way to jinx it! I FEAR NO JINX. Wow, I had no idea Dempster had such horrible tattoos. And were those completely uneven sized arms or was the camera angle just funky?

    He's still a reliever. Press your luck and go year to year. Worst thing is in 4 years you've got draft picks for him and $10m to spend elsewhere. With his ridiculous stuff that arm could go any minute. I can't think of any longterm high quality reliever that relied on that kind of sick potentially arm damaging movement.

    The same thing happened the last time they went a season without making the playoffs. Everybody assumes Wrigley sells out regardless, however, after 2004, interest declined. Numbers are skewed since they sell so many tickets in February, but when it's June and the team isn't good people don't actually show up to the games, leaving millions of dollars of revenue on the table. The economy just makes it that much worse.

    The thumb is probably resting just by not hitting a ball. He could certainly work on his swing without damaging his thumb.

    That's just not true. Hendry has made plenty of good moves that would've been possible with any payroll. Moore hasn't made any. when? Off the top of my head: Barrett, Dempster, DeRosa, Byrd, Gorzelanny, trading DeRosa, Karros/Grudzielanek, Lee, and probably Ramirez(although 6M was a little more in 2003) Um, that's ridiculous. No way he could pull those off with "any payroll". How long has Moore been a GM? Hendry has been a GM for 8 years, obviously over time he's going to pull off a favorable deal or two.

    That is the reason why it makes perfect sense for Ricketts to take his time on this decision, not a reason why not to fire Hendry though.

    I would guess it remains rare. No way Chicago ever gets one, Soldier Field is way too small. Lincoln Financial is also relatively small. Denver would actually be a really good place, and Washington is always an option.

    I've tailgated there for some really cold playoff games, with makeshift firepits and lots of layers. Years ago I thought it should only be in warm weather, but the only people that benefit from that are the media members who stay all week and if there is a warm weather team involved. The SB should be played in elements on occasion.
