  1. How about that Ike Davis fella? Isn't he supposed to be the future face of the franchise? He's the flavor of the month, for sure. The Mets always have some guy come up that everybody falls in love with. But Wright is the face of the franchise. He's also a good Ryan Theriot as far as how the female fans treat him.
  2. I've been pushing for that platoon for a couple years now.
  3. It's there because that is where the money is going, not because they really like Chicago.
  4. I doubt some retired QB is going to be mentoring Cutler at this point. A) He's already an established QB, and B) He's already spent time in the system. If Trent Green shows up in July I can't imagine Cutler leaning on him for help learning a system he spent all offseason studying. For the record, I don't like the idea of bringing in a veteran backup.
  5. I've been a defender of the using him as a reliever option this year, but I don't get them saying they basically have no choice but using him as a reliever.
  6. That didn't last very long. .212/.235/.333 in his last 10 games, and down to .283/.298/.435 overall in AA. 6ks against 0 walks in 46 AB. He's making decent contact at least.
  7. I'm holding out hope it's nobody. You don't need a 7 man bullpen, and with 6 starters, there is plenty of opportunity for things like piggybacked starts and skipping guys on occasion and having them available for emergency long relief duty.
  8. Not really a conundrum at all. Don't waste your money.
  9. well they own the flyers so they definitely have a rooting interest there. That was kind of my point.
  10. Ramirez turns 32 in June. He only seems older because this is his 13th season. A 3 year deal at $15 million per is unlikely but not impossible. He'd have to hit about .335 the rest of the way to get his avg up into the .270- .280 range where people think he might opt out. He's certainly capable of doing that. Random nonsensical trade possibility, if Ramirez walks, what would it take to pry Wright away from the Mets. They have deep needs in pitching and OF help, and Wright isn't getting any favors hitting in Citi Field. Minaya would never cede to rebuilding, but is it something to explore? Wright is a frequent target of Mets bashing - specifically his strikeout totals, but he's also the face of the franchise, much more than Johan or Jose. I don't think it's possible.
  11. Philly plays tonight and Wednesday, my guess is it's a Saturday start if it ends by then. Game 7 would be Friday, and I bet they would play Sunday, in order to get in another NBC afternoon telecast. There is a senior pga golf tourny scheduled on NBC Sunday as of now. I wonder what comcast is hoping for.
  12. It sucks a whole lot less knowing I'm waiting for them to play game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals. I worry a bit about the prolonged time off hurting them, but it's not like the Sharks time off affected them at all. They came out and looked amazing in game 1.
  13. I'm not sure what you are talking about, I was just giving an example to answer your question about how something could be "not bad enough to go on the DL". If it's something that is not obviously bothering a guy to the point that a doctor can say this is what is wrong with you, you need 3 weeks rest to heal, then that could be something you can physically play through, but possibly not play well.
  14. According to SI's Michael Farber This would work out nicely for me, as Thursday and Friday nights would be difficult for me to watch. I'll be among Flyers fans this weekend, although they are only Flyers fans when the times serves them well, same with their Phillies fandom.
  15. I think support from the fans may be what they need most. Remaining a financially viable business is important, especially for teams without a longterm stable history of customers. If they play well enough the rest of the way to garner greater public support, and income, it may help them makes the moves they need this offseason as well as enter 2011 with fan interest.
  16. I doubt it has anything to do with being self conscious of his image. If it is injury related and won't go on the DL, it's probably because all signs are that it's not a big enough injury to land him on the DL. Was it Rolen that spent a season hitting like crap with a shoulder problem that wasn't bad enough to land him on the DL? What is 'bad enough' to go on the DL, though? If you can take 15 days off and feel a lot better rather than consistently struggling and needing a lot off days, then there's a choice to be made. Whether the choice is made by Aramis, Piniella, Hendry or all of the above is what we don't know, but players have gone on the DL in similar circumstances before. If you have a seperated shoulder, a doctor tells you, and you go on the DL. If your shoulder seems fine, but something is off after the healing process (something like scar tissue), you may have no idea other than the poor results.

  18. Is that just your negative Chicago fan side coming out, or are you basing it on something? Though I don't watch all that much hockey, my sense is that the Sharks are a better team than the Flyers. I don't think Buff will be able to be nearly the force he was in the past two series. I think Vancouver and San Jose both tried to out-Blackhawk the Blackhawks, and failed. Philly won't play like them. Definitely going to be a challenge. And if Montreal does come back, that's going to be a huge layoff between games, and the whole team of destiny impossible to eliminate thing is going to be the key for them. If Philly wins, what does it look like for game 1? Thursday?
  19. no freaking clue what's wrong with the guy. My fear at the time of the injury was his violent upper cut swing would reaggravate things, but his spring injury was supposedly right arm related. Maybe he's just slightly weaker in both shoulders and that's enough to throw everything off. It doesn't take much to miss a baseball.
  20. well then i guess your whole team would be dead and we would win the cup, so that is okay with me. That would be okay with you? I would find that too horrible to enjoy a championship.
  21. In retrospect these 2 days off to reflect on a 2-0 lead seem like the worst thing that could happen. All I hear about is people talking about how great it is that the Hawks are so close to a title, and all this stuff that makes it seem like the rest of this series is just a corronation for the Hawks. I hope the Hawks aren't hearing a lot of that buzz. There is still a series to win against a great team. It's almost the exact same situation after they went up 3-1 against vancouvr
  22. Lebron's kid wouldn't give up that easily.
  23. Is Guzman not on the 60 day DL due to one of those Hendry doing a guy a favor for service time things?
  24. I haven't been clamoring for Colving to get much more playing time than he's had, but what the heck? This seems ridiculous.
