  1. He could have been trying to bunt for a hit? As long as the runner moves over it still counts as a sac bunt. He could have missed a sign? Or maybe he's heard his manager talk about the value of sac bunts so much that he got it into his head that it would be a good idea.
  2. Texas is going to make that decision. They aren't going to be followers.
  3. It's good to see Soto in to give Hill a breather.
  4. As a general rule, most of them are that type of manager. Their job isn't worth near as much as their paychecks, and the media will criticize doing nothing much more than they will criticize trying to make things happen. They feel the need to make an imprint on the game. The key is having the best players so you can win despite a manager trying to screw things up.
  5. http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2010/06/blackhawks-revelers-arrest-total-19.html and now for the important stats
  6. Part of me thinks the Big Ten knows a playoff is inevitable, and this expansion is a way of guaranteeing two seats at that table.
  7. I've been wondering about how ugly it would be if they just grabbed Nebraska. What a complete dud. Not as bad as just grabbing Missouri, but not the least bit impressive.
  8. I find it funny how willing so many are to blame Leighton, considering he had about the 2nd best save percentage and goals against average in the playoffs, and it could be argued quite easily that he outplayed Niemi. The difference was Chicago is better. They have more goal scorers and can stand toe to toe defensively. Without that amazing team in front of him, Niemi's effort, especially in the finals, would have looked disappointing. He was only considered a Conn Smythe candidate because he was the winning goalie.
  9. In my mind I remember a gasp in the crowd when Kane does his little shake and bake in the corner. Watching highlights it sounds like they let out a groan when Campbell kept it in, then the excitement/anxiety built up quickly when Kane got it and then started toward the net. From being in the house for Game 3, I can only assume there were a bunch of shrill voiced women yelling, "HIT HIM" and some surly men berating their team's inability to clear/reacquire the puck. At first I thought Boynton was trying to stop Kane from going down the ice because he didn't know what was up, but now it looks like he was one of the guys who knew, and given his position, he probably should have seen it.
  10. They were booing Bettman, but they were also booing Toews and a couple other things (like Buff holding the cup). Bettman tried to raise the mood by congratulating the Flyers on their season, and that took about 2 seconds to actually get them cheering and only lasted about 5-6 seconds.
  11. I think the important take away is that it was foolish to rely so much on a hitting coach to make things better, and the whole "best in the business" nonsense is just hype and talk. It's not his fault, but he shouldn't have been considered a major acquisition either.
  12. This is where we are going to disagree. I don't think one party is going to convince the other party otherwise so... agree to disagree? This, I do not understand. It's not like he's been an accountant working in Wyoming. He's been managing Chicago Cubs farm teams, interviewed several times, and his message has been very clear, and very consistent. I for one don't really care as much as others about Ryno's future, as all my concerns are about the players, or more specifically the man charged with acquiring those players. Because Hendry has been terrible.
  13. But Dusty Baker never cared about a guy's stats before he got a chance to coach him, he had to see it with his own eyes.
  14. There was somebody in the locker room shots that I assumed was the infamous cousin.
  15. Why must people throw beer, why, why? Why not? The Hawks just won a championship! The players douse each other with booze why not the fans? The players pour champagne over each others heads. A-holes in bars just throw a beer across the room. It's an excuse to be a dick and get away with something you would normally not get away with. But more importantly, it's a waste of beer.
  16. If they go to 16 they should do that relegation thing, where the 10th place team every year gets bumped into the bottom 6, who then play for a shot at joining the big boys the next year.
  17. Maryland? The Big Ten has enough bad accents already, why that douchebag school?
  18. Why must people throw beer, why, why?
  19. Most humble dude out there, he'd have to be considered in the running for SI sportsmen of the year, and SI has been pushing the Blackhawks hard since last summer.
  20. Seabrook and Hossa were the two best Hawks, for at least the last three rounds.
  21. No, he was in the process of calling a goal, but stopped when there was no light. He reacted to Kane's reaction, as did I. There was a half second where 3-4 Hawks sticks were raised in the air, but then the pause.
  22. You need great goaltending - gone
