  1. During the whole Bradley ordeal, Ramirez was the calmest most rational one, with Soriano a close second. Then again, maybe they blamed all the white boys for selling out bradley like that.
  2. Columbia Lions, Roar Lions Roar!!!
  3. They want the NY/NJ market, the largest in the country. How is that dumb? Not so sure its the largest college football market in the world though. You could argue UConn is a better pick than Rutgers. Not really. There are no UConn fans. Rutgers isn't huge, but it's bigger.
  4. Vitters pedestrian professional production and horrible K/BB rate is the problem. The Cubs have promoted him so aggressively that they don't have the same benefit of time. If he stays around AA much longer and doesn't improve significantly, his value will plummet. As things stand now he hasn't come close to playing well enough to be a big trade chip.
  5. That's why I buy it. Lou's behavior of late makes me think he's stopped caring. I don't know this of course; its supposition on my part based on the circumstances. I briefly saw a minute or two of the Cubs game yesterday....has Lou stopped shaving? The guy is totally losing it. Yeah, he looks like hell. That's what makes me think he's in "I don't give a f--k" mode. I'm pretty sure this is not the first time he's grown a playoff beard.
  6. because it's clear Ramirez spends all his practice time protecing Castro from plunger sodomy and other hazing gags.
  7. Soriano is the only one that comes close to the type of hitter you're trying to describe. which doesn't bode well for vitters
  8. Cliff Floyd, really? As a 19 year old he took 45 walks in A ball. I don't think Vitters has 45 walks as a pro yet. His career IsoD was .070, Vitters is like .030.
  9. I think it's completely absurd but would be enjoyable for me from a personal standpoint.
  10. He was my least favorite player on the ice in game 3. I thought he was incredibly inconsistent and not nearly as productive given the risk factor his game includes.
  11. That makes it poorly constructed. It's not that they put a team of football players out there. It's just not good. They've got no studs, they've got multiple weak spots, they are fairly old in many spots and count on many guys with significant injury issues. It's basically the same team that won just 83 last year despite an an enormous payroll. That's poorly constructed. Winning a game or two more than you lose is not an accomplishment.
  12. I'm not going to be concerned. Guys are going to be tradable for value. Being a stanley cup winner, with the former GM now in florida and potentially 2 assistant coaches working elsewhere, they can make this work.
  13. It would not have been an epic upset.
  14. It's not selling for the sake of selling, it's selling of the sake of getting better later. And I don't know how you can say they have plenty of room. They have an obscene amount of money tied up in the 2011 payroll, and are just going to be that much older, and that much past these guys primes. Sure, there's a chance they could comtend within the division, but that piss poor strategy is what doomed them during the MacPhail years.
  15. I think that's the real kicker. They were able to demand a lot the last time they figured out the BCS, but probably not anymore. again, why? you don't think ND has the same leverage with 4 superconferences (how these are made up, I still don't know, but that's another story) - why? what makes the situation so much different? Is the NCAA going to exclude all non-superconference teams from the title game? ND isn't what it used to be. The big conference's power has grown, while ND's has shrunk.
  16. first - your tv revenue numbers are just wrong. don't believe everything that you read (about both sides). the rest of that is just speculation. you're talking in definite statements when you have no idea how the BCS title game will work. I don't know how anyone could at this point, with the potential for such a huge shakeup. Sure, nobody knows for sure, at least us. But there's legitimate reasons for concern for ND. The uncertainty itself is a negative.

  18. It's not even really that popular outside of Ames. oh bull [expletive]. i love when hawkeye fans act like they're above the iowa/isu game. I've been to Kinnick many times, and I have to say that ISU games aren't nearly as intense as most big ten matchups. It doesn't stick out to me as a huge rivarly game, at least for gameday. I'm not sure about the rest of the week or how the bragging rights work and whatnot.
  19. Is a post on BCB more credible than a post on Cubs.com? If they don't let the team haze the rookies, you might as well close up shop and go home. What's the point of playing after that? I like the idea of Ramirez refusing to practice. These guys play every day, and travel when they aren't playing. They take BP before games and throw the ball around a little. What sort of practice is Ramirez refusing to partake in?
  20. They had the reporter on the radio this morning, and he didn't catch on until after the fact. He had no idea. Who is Buck? He apologizes to "Buck" around the 4:24 mark, but I have no clue who that is. I would guess it was about his reaction to the "no cab tonight" line, which looked to come from somebody holding a 670 WSCR microphone. Not sure who that could be.
  21. You're going to have to go into more detail about why they wouldn't go then, because we're 30 pages in to debating that viability, and "they won't go" isn't going to be sufficient for a lot of people following the situation. Because Texas is just going to follow where its big money rivals go. Exactly. I'm glad someone around here finally sees the light, even if he's just being a sarcastic jackass. Football money isn't the only reason, but it's a huge moneymaker for the schools, and therefore must be a huge consideration. Texas is a very good academic and athletic school and would be a huge get for any conference. If they feel that aligning themselves with Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan, etc over USC, UCLA, Cal, etc is best for them, they'll do it. They're ultimately sitting pretty right now and shouldn't be in any rush to make a decision. Both conferences would bend over backwards to accommodate Texas, and whichever one gives them more is where they'll go, I think. If national exposure is what they're looking for, I think Texas/UCLA, Texas/USC, would be bigger draws for them than Texas/Michigan, Texas/Ohio State (although those two schools would also give them exposure, I just don't think it would be as much). However, I think either conference would be a good fit. Is that better? I would like to make a formal complaint to the mods for erik calling me a jackass.
