  1. This year there is 1 team with more than 2 losses in the Top 16 of the BCS, and it's Alabama. It won't just be top 16 BCS teams. And 2 losses is too many.
  2. How so? It's just stupid. The 8th best team in the country has no reason to be in a playoff for the national championship, the 16th clearly does not. Winners of crap conferences should not get free rides into the playoffs either. It is going to be an additional 4 games for the finalists, which is a legitimate concern for the NCAA to be against it. The stupid NCAA basketball tournament does nothing but produce a bunch of whining babies thinking they got screwed out of the 65th spot, and the same thing is going to happen here. Cap it at 8 at the most, but 4 would be ideal. The regular season produces the 4 best teams. Still would have arguments. Does Wisconsin, TCU or Stanford get left out this year? Right now Wisconsin is 5 in the BCS, but ranked ahead of Stanford in every poll. If you don't have the BCS, Stanford loses out despite their 1 loss coming to one of the top 2 teams, while Wisconsin lost to a team that's not even in the conversation. Either way, but at least they are meaningful thoughts and not petty nonsense about the 17th team crying about being screwed over. In reality, however, there will be unranked teams getting in because of winning their conference championship. It will destroy the incredible excitement that occurs when a #1 team falls during the regular season or when an undefeated team struggles to hold on.
  3. That's not really worse case scenario.
  4. conference championship games will be a farce. In the past, a team like Auburn would suffer if they lost the SEC championship, not in a 16 team tourny. 4 and 5 loss teams will get in with regularity. Teams that would finish 2-10 in a real conference will get in.
  5. How so? I think 4 is more than enough, but if it takes 16 to get rid of the BCS I am fine with that. They do 16 in 1AA and it doesn't seem to be any issue. that's because nobody gives a crap about IAA in the first place.

  7. that is a terrible idea
  8. I've been to Atlanta a few teams and it was loaded with transplanted Chicagoans.

  10. If/when it happens I just hope to hell it's not something stupid like 16 teams or all conference champs are invited. 4 is plenty, but if you need 6 or 8 it's marginally acceptable.
  11. http://deadspin.com/5714047/ncaa-and-arizona-state-both-impose-penalties-on-asu-baseball-ncaas-are-harsher As one of the major players in college baseball and one of the few good reasons for top high school players to not sign, I wonder if this ASU crackdown will affect any potential 2011 draftees.
  12. Waiting until late December to decide if Cashner will be a starter virtually guarantees he will give you nothing more than 20-something starts of 5 inning ball, which in turn almost necessitates acquiring more relief pitching.
  13. I can't help but read into it a strongly racist vibe. He tries to hide it, but it's all about latinos being lazy stupid immature and in need of babysitters. If Aramis Ramirez was the exact same player but white he would be lauded as a guy who plays hurt with regularity as a quiet leader and consistent performer who is poised for a bounce back year after his post surgery season. It is disgusting how the old white guy population continuously jumps on this guy. Rozner, Stone, Rosenbloom, Kaplan, just a bunch of blatant bigots.
  14. It is a brand new stadium built just for the college team (which used to share the metrodome) that apparently was built for Southern California climates.
  15. This is going to be something I have no problem with until it actually happens. Then regret will set in.
  16. It's hard to kill the momentum a championship brings. And even if the momentum does shift it will go right back to where it was in a year or two when we are likely back at the top of the conference. Missing the playoffs would hurt, but not come anywhere close to killing the momentum from the championship. It remains the only "all Chicago" team with a championship this century. They will live on that for a couple years, and unless they revert to missing the playoffs every year, they will not go back to the Dollar Bill days. This is why I would rather see them concentrate on 2011/12 and beyond than this year.
  17. I'm not so sure what you mean by the second sentence but yes, there is no justication for this decision not already being set in stone.
  18. Wow this is just unreal, and Clayton is a guy I pretty much take to the bank. If he says there's a chance, there probably is. It would probably seal Favre not playing as well. I could see him wanting to give the home crowd one last hurrah, but I doubt he'll push his shoulder for what would virtually be a road game. I actually don't put a lot of stock into Clayton's comments about 50-50. He's just making that part up, and he does that sort of thing a lot. His schtick has always been to provide as many "gee whiz" headlines as possible instead of actually going in depth on any stories. That said, why is Indy more of a possibility than Detroit this time?
  19. After begrudgingly bumping the Bears up to number 8 two weeks ago because of the victory over Philly, Don Banks couldn't wait to push them back down to 11 this week on the heals of the Patriots game. Once again they are the lowest ranked team at their record. Philly, meanwhile, jumped from 9 to 6. It's tiresome to worry about this stuff, but Don Banks has been the biggest idiot on this subject all year. He's the guy who had the Jets #1 before training camp, then bumped them to 5 before any games were played. Chicago was 26 pre camp and 29 going into the season.
  20. But it made perfect sense for him to come back after those years. He wasn't yet 40, he was healthy enough to play every game. And his services were in high demand. There were actually bidding wars and then a team bidding against themselves to keep him playing. He got a ton of cash to do it. They will be back to a salary cap next year and who the hell is going to pay Favre what it will take to bring him back in that scenario?
  21. I think it's much more tempting to remember how much he sucked at 41 and that he will now be 42. Also, that list does not include cap casualties, and given the success of younger QBs like Bradford and Freeman copy cats are going to want to roll the dice on young guns rather than pay Favre the type of money he will require to lure himself out of retirement. If you do draft a first round QB, you aren't also going to pay Favre after giving the signing bonus to the kid.
  22. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/12/kane-back-on-ice-for-hawks.html Note also says Bolland is playing tonight, Hossa is still skating and rehabbing, plus Morin was recalled.
  23. He'll feel good in June and want to get the bad taste out of his mouth and end on his own terms instead of by injury. If the lockout extends into the summer as many believe it will, it frees him from any commitments. I wouldn't even be shocked if it was with the Vikings depending on the coach situation. Tarvaris is done here. If they draft a future QB but want to give him a year, you're probably better off taking your chances on him recapturing the magic than signing any other journeyman QB that will be available. I believed every year that he was coming back after training camp. But now I don't know. He's been terrible. He's much more banged up than he has been in past years. He's leaving games left and right. I think it's for real this time. I can't imagine why a team would want him anymore.
  24. You've "tried"? That implies that you failed and/or quit drinking beer because the temperature was 50. I refuse to believe that. Do you not attend/tailgate any Iowa football or Bears games? Seriously Bob, that's kind of pathetic. I've drank beer tailgating at Jets games that were 20 degrees mainly because that is the only point in attending a game you have no interest in. The good thing is the mountains are always blue.
  25. You probably did come up with something Hendry would consider, because I think he strongly underrates Kosuke and would like the inning-eating ability of Blanton. The reason I included Ibanez was A) to save Philly money, which should be their incentive in the first place, and B) Bring LH power to the Cubs since that seems to be something they would prefer over Kosuke's skill-set.
