  1. Wow this is just unreal, and Clayton is a guy I pretty much take to the bank. If he says there's a chance, there probably is. It would probably seal Favre not playing as well. I could see him wanting to give the home crowd one last hurrah, but I doubt he'll push his shoulder for what would virtually be a road game. I actually don't put a lot of stock into Clayton's comments about 50-50. He's just making that part up, and he does that sort of thing a lot. His schtick has always been to provide as many "gee whiz" headlines as possible instead of actually going in depth on any stories. That said, why is Indy more of a possibility than Detroit this time?
  2. After begrudgingly bumping the Bears up to number 8 two weeks ago because of the victory over Philly, Don Banks couldn't wait to push them back down to 11 this week on the heals of the Patriots game. Once again they are the lowest ranked team at their record. Philly, meanwhile, jumped from 9 to 6. It's tiresome to worry about this stuff, but Don Banks has been the biggest idiot on this subject all year. He's the guy who had the Jets #1 before training camp, then bumped them to 5 before any games were played. Chicago was 26 pre camp and 29 going into the season.
  3. But it made perfect sense for him to come back after those years. He wasn't yet 40, he was healthy enough to play every game. And his services were in high demand. There were actually bidding wars and then a team bidding against themselves to keep him playing. He got a ton of cash to do it. They will be back to a salary cap next year and who the hell is going to pay Favre what it will take to bring him back in that scenario?
  4. I think it's much more tempting to remember how much he sucked at 41 and that he will now be 42. Also, that list does not include cap casualties, and given the success of younger QBs like Bradford and Freeman copy cats are going to want to roll the dice on young guns rather than pay Favre the type of money he will require to lure himself out of retirement. If you do draft a first round QB, you aren't also going to pay Favre after giving the signing bonus to the kid.
  5. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/12/kane-back-on-ice-for-hawks.html Note also says Bolland is playing tonight, Hossa is still skating and rehabbing, plus Morin was recalled.
  6. He'll feel good in June and want to get the bad taste out of his mouth and end on his own terms instead of by injury. If the lockout extends into the summer as many believe it will, it frees him from any commitments. I wouldn't even be shocked if it was with the Vikings depending on the coach situation. Tarvaris is done here. If they draft a future QB but want to give him a year, you're probably better off taking your chances on him recapturing the magic than signing any other journeyman QB that will be available. I believed every year that he was coming back after training camp. But now I don't know. He's been terrible. He's much more banged up than he has been in past years. He's leaving games left and right. I think it's for real this time. I can't imagine why a team would want him anymore.
  7. You've "tried"? That implies that you failed and/or quit drinking beer because the temperature was 50. I refuse to believe that. Do you not attend/tailgate any Iowa football or Bears games? Seriously Bob, that's kind of pathetic. I've drank beer tailgating at Jets games that were 20 degrees mainly because that is the only point in attending a game you have no interest in. The good thing is the mountains are always blue.
  8. You probably did come up with something Hendry would consider, because I think he strongly underrates Kosuke and would like the inning-eating ability of Blanton. The reason I included Ibanez was A) to save Philly money, which should be their incentive in the first place, and B) Bring LH power to the Cubs since that seems to be something they would prefer over Kosuke's skill-set.
  9. That might be something Hendry would consider, but it'd be terrible for the Cubs. Ibanez is 38 and had a .793 OPS last year. Fukudome is 33 and had an .809 OPS last year. Power-wise, Kosuke had a .439 SLG and Ibanez had a .444 SLG last year. They had similar WARs last year (1.5 for Kosuke, 1.8 for Ibanez). Interestingly, according to xFIP, Blanton outpitched his production last year – 4.82 ERA and 4.06 xFIP. I still wouldn't have much interest in him, though. Lidge is the only guy I'd have interest in from that package, and that's because we'd only have him this year and he'd probably move Cashner to the rotation. Yeah, I wasn't trying to come up with something I'd like or that would necessarily help the Cubs, just wondering if there was any moves that would fill both team's needs.
  10. I didn't read that he's inactive or on the IR so yes, it is a possibility.
  11. I think it's an on campus building, which can make it tough. Plus it's really not hard to bring in portable beer taps as well as portable plastic bottle selling stations.
  12. Z can't handle media pressure in Chicago? He's spent his entire career there and he's had a really nice career.
  13. It's big east football though, not exactly the big leagues.
  14. They are gutless, afraid of glory and most of the time intimidated small town people (which is a terrific reason to choose Philadelphia).
  15. He could have viewed Larry as the good cop in the relationship.
  16. Last available line is Bears -2.5, after seeing Minnesota -1.5 at beginning of week. But it is off, probably because of the QB question now that the stadium situation appears to be settled.
  17. Easier but not a good idea. You have to give the fans a chance to see them at home. If a local stadium is available, and it is, that makes most sense.
  18. My favorite thing is the concession stands were not built to withstand temps under 30. How does that happen, and why does that happen in a Minnesota stadium? They have to deal with some "unseasonably cold" temps in late November. If I was a ticket holder for the dome I would be really pissed, but happier than Detroit.
  19. New York news anchors are so ridiculous when it comes to stuff like this. They'll never acknowledge an athlete from another city until there is talk of them coming to the Yankees or Knicks, then they fall in love and as soon as he chooses elsewhere they hate the guy with a passion. It's so forced to appease the masses but it's still dumb.
  20. Keith Brooking is very inspirational. http://kissingsuzykolber.uproxx.com/2010/12/keith-brookings-speech-before-the-eagles-game-sunday.html PLUS FOUR!!!
  21. That is just awful awful awful*. I see no good reason to attend. *sorry about that morbid comment
  22. What a ridiculous comment on Zambrano. He experienced a turnaround under the tutelage of the same guy that has been in charge of his tutelage his entire career?
  23. I think they would hesitate. The Yankees world feels burned by Carl Pavano and to a certain extent Javier Vasquez twice. They dont' trust NL pitchers, with the expection of guys like Sabathia who established his success in the AL.
