    I don't think it'll be that high. Somewhere in the 13-14 range. High but not unheard of for a playoff game. I believe the Packers Patriots Super Bowl was 17. It's probably unheard of for a home team to be that much of an underdog in a playoff game, though. I'm seeing 10.

    Running the football is probably the riskiest thing you can do from a health standpoint. I'm very happy they limited Forte's carries. But he still got it 15 times. Riskier than dropping back the QB and letting him get sacked 6 times? If limiting injury was the point, then put in backups. Yes, running the ball is a greater injury risk than a QB taking sacks. That mileage takes a toll on a back, and with Forte already going through that rookie year he had any chance the Bears can take to limit his touches is a good thing for his future, and theirs. That's both in terms of near term and future.

    No idea about the lockout. I'd have no problem with an 18 game season, but that is going to definitely involve 2 less preseason games, keeping the total at 20, or 10 home gates per team. I'd hate to see an NBA style soft cap. The NFL's cap works perfectly fine as is and I hope they keep it, with some modification to rookie pools.

    Somebody is coming to Chicago in 2 weeks. If current seeds hold, Philly would be coming in for a revenge game. If the dogs wins, the Bears would get another crack at the juggernaut Seahawks team. If Green Bay pulls off the road upset and New Orleans wins, as they should, then the Saints come back to Chicago for the first time since 2008 and the Bears would be looking to extend their winning streak against New Orleans to five. Obviously the two most likely opponents are New Orleans and Philly, which are both playing their own rematch games this coming weekend. Everybody in this playoff group is beatable. Philly hasn't looked impressive for 60 minutes of football since the week after losing to the Bears, when they came from behind against Houston. For some it took the Vikings loss to "prove they were beatable". New Orleans was sloppy in the first half of the season, rolled through the midsection with five straight 30 points games, then slipped at the end with losses to Baltimore and Tampa and an average of just 18 points per game. Seattle sucks at football. And the two teams Chicago can't meet until a potential conference championship matchup will be discussed at a later date.

    I don't get all the "they shouldn't have done it" talk. It is really hard to win in baseball without impact players, and they were lacking them, especially with pitching.

    That would make a lot of sense, considering McDaniel's affection for Cassel, and the ability to rub it in Denver's face. Maybe Haley is pushing Weis out and Charlie knows it. Combined with the fact that Haley is kind of a miserable prick from all accounts I've heard, that would make the most sense. Although that non-handshake after the first Denver-KC game seems even weirder now. Oh yeah, forgot about that. Not sure what that relationship is but I think the combo of two young hot heads could be fun to watch implode.

    He played in Chicago, but after some early success they didn't seem to throw much his way. Orton was the starter. Or is this simply nothing to do with the Bears? i'm not sure what the implication is here. is he implying that lloyd had some negative comments about turner? that would be dumb considering he was recruited by turner into turner's offensive system at illinois, had a lot of success in turner's system while at illinois, and did pretty well when he was healthy with the bears. I think the implication is that Drake thinks he was underutlized in previous stops, and I'm wondering if he's referring to the Bears. He played most games but was rarely used.

    I could only imagine he sees no future as NFL head coach, and wants to get back in the running for a college head coaching job. Maybe he feels being a college OC is a better route to that goal. Or he just hates Kansas City.

    So what? At bats are needed for development. Nobody cares that Castro had less than 1000 AB because when he was called up he played everyday. Colvin got a nice amount of minor league AB, and when he was called up he got fairly consistent playing time and at bats. With 4 OF already crammed into a crowded rotation it is going to be next to impossible for Guyer to get ample playing time. He could use the playing time to continue his development. The AB is absolutely germane to the discussion.

    I don't really get the outrage over the suspensions. It's a pretty harmless infraction, and a fairly large punishment. What exactly is wrong with imposing it next year? Cam Newton clearly shouldn't be allowed to play college football yet he played an entire Heisman winning season.

    Yeah, that's what I'm seeing as well. Jackson needs more time and I think he will get it, likely at AAA. Guyer would have to have a strong spring, but if he does, he would likely be that bat that goony was referring to. I could easily see him starting at AAA as well, though. Colvin got the gig because he was ridiculous in spring, and he was the 4th OF. Nady was there but still rehabbing on the fly, so they could more or less guarantee Colvin plenty of playing time. He PH in game 1 and started games 3 and 4. He had 45 AB in April. With the same 4 OF still on the team, it's going to be extremely difficult to get a guy like Guyer into the rotation with regularity. If he was out of options or something maybe they'd try and make it work. But he's a guy with 400+ fewer minor league AB than Colvin had, with 1300. I don't see how they could try it.

    I can't stand this argument. By this definition, there are only a handful of impact players ever worth acquiring and the odds of it happening are slim, as only 1-3 such players are actually available any given off-season. By only considering such players, a team might never doing anything. If you can upgrade your wins by 1-2 with an acquisition that doesn't cost too much in prospects over the life of the contract acquired, then you do it. Incremental growth can be a formula for success without having one of the rare under 30 MVP candidates. Incremental growth is fine if you actual consistently improve incrementally. But when you have the type of huge drop offs that Jim Hendry's Cubs have had, and don't already have impact bats or potential impact bats in the system, incremental growth is not useful. At least, it's not useful if the goal is to be really good instead of hoping to be mediocre enough.

    Hmm, miss almost half of the season or lie to my coach so I can play the bowl game, get more stuff, then leave and get paid... What to do? Are the guys involved likely to be top of the draft picks?

    There is an open bench spot, but not necessarily strictly for an OFer. They have 4 guys who played a lot last year, and at least three of them can be passable at all three positions. Plus they have Baker who has played in the OF when needed. If they stick with only 5 bench players, they already have Fukudome/Colvin, backup catcher and Baker. Presumably they will take somebody who can pass off as a SS, like Barney, and then what they really need is a bat, and not specifically from any one position. I hope they just go with the best bat they can find, and if it's not an OF, and you end up needing another OF, then just call somebody up at a later date. Introducing a kid to the bench can be difficult, especially in a 5th OF spot where he will get very little playing time.
