  1. I was expecting something like that. Guess it makes it less likely that everybody sits.
  2. It's along the same lines as my not wanting to see ARam sprint full speed out of the box every time he puts the ball in play. Giving 110% isn't always what you want. "Old school" types can't abide by that sort of thinking, but it's more pragmatic. At the same time, if you suck, you better try really hard because you getting injured isn't going to hurt the team.
  3. Dare I say, Rowand got a little lazy on that one.
  4. LAAAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
  5. And the other person noted how completely unlikely that is to happen. I too would take the best that Pena could possibly do spread over 3 years.
  6. If there's one thing that has held back this Cubs team for decades, it's a lack of tryers.
  7. I would venture a guess that most OF who regularly bump into walls to make catches play virtually all of their games with non-brick walls.
  8. His IsoD is like .250 this past week. It had been around .025 in April/May but it's well over .100 in June and back to around normal for the season.
  9. I'd gladly take that line over the next 3 years. I doubt Pujols/Fielder will be worth 12-15 million more than that. Pena has had an OBP that high twice in his career, and a SLG that high once. I said i'd gladly take that line for the next 3 years. I was speaking hypothetically. So then what's the point of noting that Pujols/Fielder won't be that much better? The reason those guys would get more money is they are better bets to be significantly better. You pay a premium for dependable quality.
  10. soriano managed to get within 20 feet of the wall
  11. Pena's homerun is much less impressive now that Koyie had one. Did that old man yell at the kid?
  12. The HR right there is unnecessary if they just had more fast guys ahead of Pena in the order.
  13. Just let Davis go the whole game regardless, and send him back for relief in game 2.
  14. And now Quade gets an All Star game appearance out of it.
  15. Is Buffalo that late to the news? also, isn't Kane in rehab for cocaine?
  16. My experience is quite different.
  17. I'd be pretty happy if Campana reproduced Pierre's career (and left before turning 28).
  18. Denial - Denial - Denial. Jackson's performance has dropped like a stone in a wishing well after the first 6 weeks of the season. I don't know if the reason is lingering effects from his hand injury or he is pressing to fulfill his personal time table to reach the majors. His drop in production and rise in strikeouts parallels with Marlon Byrd's injury (along with his injury). Remember, he dropped in the draft because he pressed the last year in college to hit more HRs to impress the scouts. And I will throw out a left field thought: Matt Szczur. Szczur is the new darling of the online scouting media (example: BA). Jackson might be pressing to keep his talent status within the Cub organization while Szczur is being talked about as the new stud CFer (and we can't forget HA's rising status). Players are keenly aware of the competition, from across the dugout to teammates. I still think Jackson will be an everyday MLB player, however, he needs to mature past his history to impress on his terms. Denial?
  19. So why not just wait and cut him when he sucks? Because first, you have to waste a year finding out he's terrible. Either he's hurt and you have a bench player all year or he's just terrible in your lineup. Between that and the dead money after cutting him you could very well lose more than 27 million. But you said yourself the most likely scenario is that he's going to be worth around $10m next year. Sure, he could get hurt (and probably will at some point). The guy you acquire could get hurt too. The likely scenario is he's worth $10m next year. If you only have to pay a small fraction and/or you can get something more valuable than pitching project, sure, go right ahead. But there's no point in paying half his money and getting filler in return right now. They have several other actual need positions to fill at the same time. Get production out of RF, 1B and 2B, improve your pitching, and let Colvin be Soriano's insurance for next year.
  20. So you're getting the same output for the same amount next year, and you're more and more likely to have better output for the the same money the following years. That's assuming the 8-10m free agent you acquire is worth it and not just as close to a decline.
