  2. When Szczur was not with Peoria during his college graduation, the team went 1-2. When Szczur was not with the Chiefs as he went to the Futures game the team went on a 2 game winning streak. Sample size. Let's see how they do now that he's gone for good before we draw any conclusions.
  3. He was replaced by Chris Singleton this year.
  4. This. Meh, being labeled an all star in 2011 might have gotten him a few extra $'s on his next contract. Getting labelled as an all star for the first time in your career is probably worth some money. But Ramirez is an established player and his market value is pretty well established as well. I don't think this would or would not make him any money.
  5. What you are saying is that while following baseball I am doing it wrong because I don't know a random guy who you know. That's ridiculous. He's a middle reliever on an inconsequential team who plays the Cubs a couple times a year and has really only done so while the Cubs have been absolute crap. There's no reason why somebody has to have heard of him.
  6. He's got 240 innings spread over 5 seasons in the majors, as a middle reliever. There's no reason why somebody who follows baseball to know who he is. The vast majority of those innings have come in the past 3 years, and he's been very good. You probably wouldn't know who he is if you're a casual fan, but if you big enough into baseball to hang around message boards a lot you'd know who he is. Especially if you're a fan of an NL team. He plays on the most inconsequential team in the league. I've heard of him because he was a Yankee, but I had no idea who he was playing for now. It's crazy to suggest somebody who follows baseaball has to know who he is.
  7. Just two weeks ago he went 2 innings throwing 32 pitches the day after a full 20 pitch 9th. He came out for a multi innings outing his next time and followed up with another no rest game. He isn't getting a lot of save opportunities but Quade is still finding ways to use him recklessly.
  8. Yeah, I'm surprised how many people enjoy him. He's essentially Joe Morgan without the "I'm the best" attitude. I guess he's fine if you are just hearing him do one game and don't pay attention, but he's constantly calling for sac bunts and moving runners over and making things happen and all that jazz. On Saturday's game he said that one of the most important stats in baseball is two out RBI's or something like that and then Kasper said that wins aren't the best stat to judge a pitcher with and gave a reason why and Campbell shrugged him off. Campbell isn't bad because he doesn't sound completely lost when doing the game, as he's done it for a long time but his opinions would drive me nuts in the long run. Oh yeah, I remember hearing him call a sunday night game on the radio and just going off on how important "wins" are for a pitcher and how some guys just know how to and that Zambrano specifically didn't know how to win.
  9. I'm not sure why anybody would think anybody was expected to take an exhibition game seriously.

  12. You can't keep throwing out your injury risk closer with a guaranteed contract out for 4+ out innings in a lost season. It's unnecessarily reckless with no payoff.
  13. Not sure where the ASG is being discussed, but Jeter is so embarrassed by his horrible play that he has pulled himself from the game.
  14. I believe the railing is at like 40-50" (can't remember exactly but its somewhere in there) from the ground. The Rangers raised all of the railings either after the first time someone fell (late 90s I believe????) or this past offseason when the guy fell from club level. It was like 32" (way too low IMO and railings should never be that low in the first place) or something before they raised it. Maybe someone else can help me out here. I'm going by memory here, but I'm pretty darn sure they raised the railing already. http://deadspin.com/5819404/of-rangers-and-railings I don't think that area is 40". http://fastcache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/11/2011/07/dal_a_rangers_fan_fell_b2_600.jpg
  15. Do those players look small to anybody or is it just me?
  16. Interesting reasoning here, bumping Golden so high despite only 100 professional PA, then holding Baez down because you don't want to bump him too quickly. Low A numbers are very difficult to judge.
  17. In addition to Posada being a bad DH, their non-Granderson OFs aren't doing much with the bat.
  18. Posada is a sub 700 OPS DH, and they have some bullpen holes.
  19. With Victorino now on the DL I wonder if the Cubs could get Philly to trade for their former player, Byrd, to try and drum up some offense. Their corner OF has been bad this year and with Shane down all three spots are going to suck. Byrd could fill-in at CF and then help out on the corners, maybe.
  20. The Cubs won't come close to replacing Ramirez, but it could be fun to see the Yankees trade for him just because that would mean Posada is getting shoved out the door and that drama would be hilarious.
  21. I think you may be remembering the pre-Zell era through rose colored memory glasses. This is hardly any different from what this guy would always write. Is this in the paper or just online? I was under the impression Rosenblogs stuff was all on the website now.
  22. And he was a firefighter. Obviously marathon runners can die of a heart attack just getting the mail, but the combination of being in decent shape and in the hands of medical professionals would seem to me to be something that could save him.
