Given Wirtz's willingness to spend big time in recent years, including actual payroll that is well above the salary cap, I wonder if we're poised for a couple years of significant underspending. He has to figure there's fairly decent goodwill built up with the Cup. He's got all his stars in place and the team should at least by competitive going forward.

Hendry wants to keep the guys who can help him in 2012. What's wrong with that? Two things: He's a horrible judge of talent who has no idea who can and cannot help him in 2012. He shouldn't be here in 2012. -

Who is "everyone"? Marlon Byrd and Kerry Wood? If Hendry is waiting for them to turn the team around, he is even dumber than I thought. That's the beauty of it, there's always somebody to wait on. -

Yeah, he's got to hope Ricketts is stupid enough to think the injuries were the problem and that the team can play over .500 the rest of the way, so he can keep his job the same way Quade got his job. -
Fukudome or Aramis Ramirez could be fantastic fits for Philly.

Probably because the inexplicable number of page views coming from non-residents allow the paper's ad revenue to finance the entire town's budget.

ZiPS must not have thought much of Cashner/Wells/Garza if they expected them to put a ~7.00 ERA in limited innings during their missed starts. I think the point is more that they have been so freaking bad that even having those guys miss no time doesn't make up the difference. Plus, a lot of other teams have missed a lot more, and better, players. ZIPS has to be kidding. The injuries to Wells, Cashner, Byrd, Wood, etc. haven't cost this team some wins??????????? Especially when they have been replaced by the likes of Davis, Lopez, Coleman, Campana, etc. Nobody is saying that it would have made the 2011 Cubs into contenders, but I would think the regulars would have accounted for 4 or 5 more wins at this point. The Cubs are not the only team who have missed guys. Much better players from around the league have missed considerable time.

If you haven't seen the link, it says Minnesota, Texas, NYM and Nationals could/should be a few games better (about 4-6 each), while the Cubs stay the same.

Nah, I've seen Fonzie's car up close -- it's definitely more of a turquoise-teal thing than anything Cubbie blue. That photo just makes it look darker than it is. Well I took that picture so ive seen it up close myself and I remember it being the same color as it appears in the pic. That was five or so years ago though so maybe he has gotten it painted since then? You took that picture 5 years ago? -
Dude is having a pretty crappy season down there. I'm guessing him being brought up has something to do with the fact that he has already been called up earlier this year. Warm body, meet Chicago Cubs pitching staff; Chicago Cubs pitching staff, meet warm body.
