  1. he was taken off with some leg issues.
  2. Holy crap Miami is pathetic, and Tebow was terrible despite the win.
  3. Pitching abuse was much more widespread than the notion that managers don't really matter. I know I had those conversations with people on the espn board, but those people mostly came here.
  4. Somebody other than hccf must agree with me, I know I wasn't the only one sounding the alarm bells of how horrible a hire that was going to be.
  5. I was extremely optimistic about the long term future of the Cubs a decade ago, ironically when Hendry was in charge of the farm system.
  6. that game was dreadfully similar to last season's lackluster games.
  7. OH MY GOD WHY DID CHICAGO WAIT TO TRAVEL UNTIL THURSDAY??? DIDN'T THEY REALIZE THAT FLYING TO THE MOON IS A HUGE TIME CHANGE AND WILL CAUSE TERRIBLE ROCKET LAG?? Way to many idiotic media members made way to big of a deal about this travel. Hey people, Tampa said they suffered the last time but they actually just really sucked that season.
  8. I know what you are saying but it sounds funny.
  9. The cubs aren't in a financial bind and the only reason they are even close to one is because they signed a second rate player to a star contract. You avoid trouble down the line by giving star money to actual stars.
  10. Cindy Sandberg as PR director? Director of internal affairs
  11. I'm pretty sure that's against his contract and they could recoup some of his salary for that. Plus, why burn a bridge, even though his bosses are acting like toddlers? You don't smear out in public where people can prove it was you.
  12. Why not? See above. Let's assume for a moment that there's even a 1% chance that Epstein to the Cubs falls apart. Hoyer's not going to quit his job in San Diego if there's a chance he has to work with someone other than his superbestbuddy. The Cubs aren't going to hire a new GM if there's even a tiny chance they have to find a new President (who will presumably want some sort of say on the GM front). See above, doesn't make any sense.
  13. That makes no sense to me. Hoyer is Epstein's guy. He wants to work with Epstein. He's not going to quit his job in SD while there is even a tiny bit of doubt that Epstein is coming, and the Cubs can't really hire a GM if there's even a tiny chance that they may have to look for a new president of baseball ops. He would be quitting at a place that won't give him an extension to go to a place that will be giving him a 5-year deal. So that point makes no sense. I doubt Ricketts absolutely insists he must have a president of baseball ops now just because that was going to be the plan with Theo.
  14. this delay makes me a sad panda
  15. That's when you know the negotiators are finally getting serious.
  16. Todd Hundley started it. He was a malcontent big money outsider brought in when the team tried to take the next step for contention "within the division".
  17. what? not only had he never heard boos at wrigley before, but he'd never heard boos ANYWHERE before? and couldn't pick them out? come on. I saw lines of this white powder side by side on a mirror and I was like, what is that strange stuff?
  18. Oh my god I hate Mark Grace.
  19. It made me want to rage-vomit onto his face. I really don't want to break my streak of not clicking on the sun-times site, what was the gist?
  20. really?
  21. 19-1 New England hasn't won a Super Bowl in 7 years. They've been knocked out the playoffs at home in the 1st round two years in a row.
  22. The system is lackluster and aggressive promotions is a part of the system. The system is lackluster because of a lack of overslots, taking some chances early, and not spending jack in Latin America for several years. Combine that with a few guys being traded or not panning out, and I think you have a much better case for saying aggressive promotions haven't hurt in any significant way than arguing they have. It's all part of the system. It isn't the main issue, nobody is saying that. But unnecessary promotions are not helpful
