    This weekend wasn't the first time this information came out, right? I feel like we heard about the first indications of an investigation a while ago and it has just been keep since then. I have to believe that if this wasn't JoePa, there would be more of an uproar about his ouster. Apparently the media is more interested in free tattoos than children being raped. I think that's true. I didn't realize it was confirmed that Joe had actual knowledge of the allegation before. But I didn't follow it that closely. re the OSU comparison, Kobe won a title shortly after raping a girl while Vick served years for killing dogs so...I don't know...life isn't fair? torturing and killing dogs is generally considered a lesser crime than getting a free tattoo, no? And the charges against Kobe were eventually dropped. These aren't very equal comparisons.

    And not a lot of guys who do something as useful as mash lefties like Baker does. There are 4 non-catcher spots. And a guy who mashes lefties plus plays 3B, 2B, corner OF and the occasional 1B can fit there. I would rather have a guy like Baker who we know can do an adequate job on the bench, be a part of that bench, instead of introducing a second rate prospect to the major leagues via a bench role. Baker is the first RH bat off the bench, if his role is taken over by a kid, that kid is probably the last guy off the bench and won't play enough.

    Who is this theoretical full time 3B? If you can get a real one, sure, but that's a lot easier said than done. You also have bench spots to fill, and you might as well fill them with people who do something useful, like mash lefties and play multiple spots. The fact that somebody might not be a part of this team in 3 years is no reason to get rid of them today. You put the best players you have in 2012 on the 2012 team.

    Epstein has talked a lot about scouring for assets. My interpretation is they aren't going to be cutting anybody who has a chance to contribute. Colvin isn't a valuable asset, but he is an asset, and could contribute. Dewitt is similar, especially with the team letting Ramirez go. They probably need to handle 2B and 3B with quantity at the moment and he would be a part of that. James Russel is somebody who is an asset when the team isn't mindlessly trying to use him as a starter. On the other hand, Coleman is kind of useless. If you aren't a legit starter, and don't offer some sort of stand out skill for the bullpen like Russel does with lefties, you probably aren't worth keeping around with the numbers they have, or will have after acquiring a starter.

    Maybe this is stupid but I thought their record was better than they played so far this year and this loss could be a positive in the long run. Too many of their wins have been in overtime and/or shootouts. They did have a pretty decent goal differential (key word "did"), but I thought they were playing more like a 4/5 seed than a potential #1 seed. And maybe this beatdown was a pretty good thing to keep their heads on straight. They beat the crap out of the Canucks last November in Vancouver, but didn't play like that much the rest of the season. Hopefully they can rally off this embarrassment and gain from it in the end.

    In 2012? No. But long term it definitely does. No It does not. It is maintaining the status quo. It may be the right decision. But it does not get the team on track.

    those are not tips ot get the cubs on track. giving Garza an extension does nothing to improve the team. Not signing a stud free agent does nothing to improve the team.

    How is concerns about his asking price a red flag? Oh shut up you moron. Why do so many people insist that you can only win in 2012 or it's a bust? Probably not nearly as good or as nearly a perfect fit as these two. You can't just say, "oh, there will be others." That's idiotic.
