    So with UCLA and ASU both filling their head coaching positions, is there anything out there that would be a potential fit for Martz? I'm thinking no. It will be interesting to see if they just can him if there is no other job for him to leave them for, or if they just go with the status quo and make one more go of it with the people already here.

    I don't see how that is in the best interests of fans. Denver games are hideous to watch. But anyway, the point is to allow flexibility but you can't just take every good game away from the networks that pay for them.

    My guess is his free agent contract would be somewhat suppressed by people not knowing exactly how he'd pitch in MLB. He's not going to get Halladay money. If he does go through posting process, he could insist on a 3-year contract with guarantees of no arbitration offer so he will be a free agent at age 28 having 3 seasons in MLB to prove his stature. But even with that theory, it would still make sense for him to wait a year and get $100m all to himself.

    the networks re-up, NBC gets a primetime Thanksgiving game. CBS/Fox get to swap some games with each other, I think?

    Bears free agents after next year? Urlacher is signed through 2012. Garza also signed an extension through 2013.

    That game sure ended in a crazy (Cubs like) way. Ryno led off the 10th with a triple... and didn't score. But they won after 2 IBB and a single by Mel Hall driving in Sarge.

It looks like a guy with decent height who is somewhat lanky. Doesnt' look like Sarge to me. Leon Durham PH in that game and got on base. Keith Moreland #6, PH as well and didn't get on. My guess is it's Bull with Moreland at bat. Also, Kent Tekulve is on the mound he wasn't in the box score you posted but is in this one. And the 9th Leon Durham pinch hits for Larry Bowa (SS) batting 8th b9 4-4 2 --- CHC L. Durham C. Guante 3% 56% Single Richie Hebner pinch hits for Lee Smith (P) batting 9th b9 4-4 2 1-- CHC R.     There has to be a McDonald's on the property, so that restaurant will be serving Big Macs. I don't get it. From the Tribune story Oh, the other one just says foreseeable future, which I assumed meant until they actually build something there. That's fine though. McDonald's can co-exist with a real place. Or the restaurant can go in the Triangle.

    Eh, wasn't he like the 3rd fallback hire after their initial choices blew up in their faces? And the program is in complete limbo with all the conference nonsense. I don't have a problem with him turning around and leaving after 1 year, and I'm also a little hesistant to believe initial stories about how it was done. It either comes from emotional football players or administrators that have a tendency to paint the departing in a bad light before welcoming in the new guy.

    Same baseball budget as last year, plus the draft and IFA budget will basically be cut in half. That adds back ... $8 million or so? There have been whispers since last summer that the Cubs intend to significantly lower MLB payroll. We've brushed them off as nonsensical. Now we're two months into the offseason, and everything the Cubs have actually done (including making an offer to Pujols that he was never seriously going to consider) support that hypothesis. They also support other possibilities, like the team going stealth on Fielder or really preferring Darvish or something, but the "Cubs are going to get cheap under Ricketts" hypothesis has yet to be disproven. There were rumors that the minor league portion of the payroll would take away from the major league, not that they were going to signficantly decrease the baseball budget.

    I'm still liking this idea, 5/125, with a mutual option for a 6th year at $30m that kicks in with an MVP award in any year, or top three in voting in any 2 years. He's not going to get the MVP votes if he's not awesome and the team isn't winning. And if he is, you'll have been more than happy with the contract. Toss in a buyout if the 6th year doesn't kick in, and an opt-out after the 4th year so that he can go for another mega deal when all the big market AL teams are back looking at DH/1B types, and structure it so that he's getting a little more than $25m per in the first four years, which makes it more valuable to him and maybe entices him to opt-out when you want him to. So you might be looking at something like 5/135 if all he does is come here, play okay and the team doesn't win. 4/108 if he comes here and plays well enough to get another mega-deal at age 31, or 6/155-160 if he comes here, the team wins and he plays really well.

    If Prince is confident he'll stay productive, he should take the 6/150. His next contract could take him to his 40s. If he's a soon to be 36 year old 1B, I'm not so sure the interest will be there. Especially not coming off 8 years in Seattle.

    What's the current line? Palko finally got banished, which could mean they are actually competitive(if Orton is/stays healthy) or it's the worst loss yet(if Stanzi gets the nod). It's only 14. KC has lost by more than that 5 times and GB has won by more than that 4 times.

    That's part of the problem with going that route. It is much more difficult and much less likely to work out in the end. You need multiple moving parts to come into place. Sometimes it's your only choice, like when you are already up against budgetary restraints. Or when the only available free agents play positions you have already filled. The extremely realistic free agent signing that fits exactly what you have is a bird in hand, while the theoretical trade is one bird flying in and out of several bushes.

    After those veterans allowed fried chicken, beer and video games to sabotage the Red Sox, I'm not sure why the Cubs would want anything to do with them.

    There's your multi-level parking lot with entrances on Addison and Clark, as well as room for a restaurant and museum on top. This leaves the triange building as more of an in-game revenue draw.

    That's pretty big news. It's always had so much potential but I have not heard about it being discussed as a potential spot for development. That could house a tremendous facility.
