  1. Doing a little google search it appears that Boston was somewhat of a surprise, that many people had Seattle and the Yankees potentially going to $20-30m despite most people assuming it would be $10-12m. Also, hardball times had a little discussion about Matsuzaka's health and ended with:
  2. Some would argue that OC at Auburn was a better gig. Maybe he knows something we don't and just wanted to get the F out of Dodge. It's a really weird move to me. Never question a coach's desire to be the head coach.
  3. You're Marion Barber hatred is amusing. you are?
  4. So he and/or his people were busted in July with marijuana and cash, and then he still went through with a potential multi-kilo purchase of cocaine. These agents must have thought they were dealing with the dumbest dealer in history.
  5. They arrested the wrong former Cowboy.
  6. If you think he can probably pitch several more years in baseball and be decent, but without a lot of upside, then you are refuting your insinuation that there is a surplus of pitchers like Zambrano. Maybe overstated it a little, but pitchers with where I think Z's ability level is at this point sign 1 year deals all the time. There are options out there for teams. They also sign 2 and 3 year deals all the time. He's only got 1 more year left anyway.

  9. Yeah, a 2nd rate WR can be useful, a 2nd rate linemen can get your QB killed. I would be happy as well with Cutler and a very strong line, with a never ending rotation of 2nd rate skill position guys.
  10. I didn't think it was funny, just completely accurate.
  11. There's a tangible benefit. Theo obviously doesn't want the rest of the league (agents and teams) to know what he's going to do. Keep all options open while you negotiate what you want. Keep fans interested in the names they hear. This would hardly be the first time the Cubs showed interest in the top names all winter only to come away with something else. It's practically Cubs Marketing 101 (while acquiring your biggest piece before the convention is Cubs Marketing 201).
  12. Oh come on. "A lot"? Everybody in baseball continues to say how little pitching there is out there. Guys are getting paid millions just for the ability to not be horrible. If anything, I think the rest of baseball might be scared off by the Cubs drama queen way of handling him, instead of the proper Theo way of "shut the hell up about your internal issues". The Cubs have routinely talked down their "cancers" while in the process of giving them away, and that's what people are hoping to happen again.
  13. The building on the triangle location was a donut shop
  14. I couldn't get much further, the nicknamification became too exhausting. ? There wasn't a nickname in the title... Which is why he said "much" further, instead of "any" further. 4 sentences in and there's this, "Boy-quarium of Lesser GMs", and right below that there is this: I find over and over that those chicagonow links off the trib site and just ridiculous.
  15. Count me in as not everybody else. THANKS DAD!!! Although the bags of peanuts from jewel were a legitimate bargain.
  16. Yeah, he's Carimi at C. He's huge (6-5, 315 ish), strong as an ox, physical as they come, and surprisingly a really good athlete for his size. Even with Garza, I would hope if Tice is the OC and has some say-so in personnel decisions that he would go back to UW for the 1st round pick. His son played for Wisconsin and he fell in love with Carimi going to games. I don't see how the same couldn't be true of Konz. That being said, I do understand if they don't pick Konz. WR is probably a bigger need and DE and CB will also be considered in the 1st. But I'd still like to grab a C by the 3rd/4th round. Really like Ben Jones- UGA and Mike Brewster tOSU also in the 2nd/3rd round range. One way to do is it to try and have a good line and good receivers, spreading around your talent, but another option is always trying to build a dominant line, which is going to make your WRs more effective, almost by default.
  17. And they spent half the time talking about how hockey fans complain about a lack of coverage on ESPN. So meta.
  18. Well, the Bears have their QB so that shouldn't be an issue.
  19. So with UCLA and ASU both filling their head coaching positions, is there anything out there that would be a potential fit for Martz? I'm thinking no. It will be interesting to see if they just can him if there is no other job for him to leave them for, or if they just go with the status quo and make one more go of it with the people already here.
  20. I don't see how that is in the best interests of fans. Denver games are hideous to watch. But anyway, the point is to allow flexibility but you can't just take every good game away from the networks that pay for them.
  21. My guess is his free agent contract would be somewhat suppressed by people not knowing exactly how he'd pitch in MLB. He's not going to get Halladay money. If he does go through posting process, he could insist on a 3-year contract with guarantees of no arbitration offer so he will be a free agent at age 28 having 3 seasons in MLB to prove his stature. But even with that theory, it would still make sense for him to wait a year and get $100m all to himself.
  22. the networks re-up, NBC gets a primetime Thanksgiving game. CBS/Fox get to swap some games with each other, I think?
  23. Bears free agents after next year? Urlacher is signed through 2012. Garza also signed an extension through 2013.
  24. I used to do the Kent Tekulve wind up just for fun. That guy is unmistakeable.
