  1. I'm gonna guess self-inflicted. After the whole driving off a cliff thing... Shame. Great player. At first I confused him with Merriman and his wacky Tila Tequila girlfriend. But yeah, cliff diving was probably a sign.
  2. Hargrove is a Packer now.
  3. Yeah, same here. It's for england anyway, what does he have 7 minutes before they are eliminated?
  4. Cliff Stein has a reputation for getting contracts done in quick order for Chicago Bears draft picks, and that held true Wednesday with word that wide receiver Alshon Jeffery has agreed to terms on a contract. Jeffery, a second-round pick out of South Carolina, received a four-year deal. While the exact amount of the contract is not known, the deals are pretty much slotted now. He’s probably getting close to what the Denver Broncos gave safety Rahim Moore, the 45th pick in the 2011 draft, a year ago. Moore received a four-year, $4.448 million contract. The deal included a $1.73 million signing bonus. The Bears’ rookie salary-cap pool is $4,189,971. The deals for the team’s six draft picks cannot exceed $23,044,841.
  5. Yes, dammit. I better never lose my hot ham and cheese. Do they still make that ridiculous Mushroom and Swiss Burger? And to avoid totally derailing this thread, I read an article the other day that said that assuming Johnny Knox will be on the PUP list, the receiver corps would likely be Marshall, Jeffery, Bennett, Hester, Weems and Devin Thomas and Dane Sanzenbacher battling it out for the last spot. If Knox can somehow have a miraculous recovery, the receiver corps is deep. I'm really excited about the offense Cutler has been provided this offseason. The receiver group is already deep. The top two guys are question marks for different reasons, but Knox's presence, or lack thereof doesn't really matter to the depth. Because it's not like you can keep them in the minors. Multiple guys will get cut.
  6. Not unusual, no, but the events are about players continuing to improve and not getting injured, plus signing a huge free agent. It is kind of rare to have all the guys you need to keep getting better and stay healthy, actually get better and stay healthy. What is probably more likely is one or more of those guys will get hurt and/or take a step back. Yes, that's baseball; which is why I said the bold part. And really, the only players already on the team he brought up as improving and not getting hurt were Castro and Shark. That's hardly unreasonable. But you not being surprised that the things happened does not negate the fact that there are a lot of ifs. The statement wasn't about a lot of far off unrealistic hopes, but rather, a lot of ifs. And there were a lot of ifs listed. Ifs are tough to count on in baseball. What's with the pointless distinction about the guys already on the team? He also brought up both Rizzo and Jackson arriving and producing in year 1.
  7. I don't think the goal of even schedules is a worthy enough goal to go overboard with 30 interleague games. There's nothing to be gained and a big risk scheduling so many more games that will be tougher to sell.

  9. that was fast. It shouldn't be hard to sign your draft picks these days, but is there anybody signed who was picked ahead of him? Hope he wasn't desperate for his signing bonus to pay off his tab at Hardee's.
  10. There's too many if's in there. Not really. Look at it this way: if most of that happened and they were competitive, would you sit back and say "man, what an improbable and fluke-y season!"? I don't see them adding Hamels and a solid bat plus keeping Dempster. But if they did all that they should be competitive. There are a lot of ifs though. Shark is still a work in progress, Brett and Rizzo are no sure things to be solid major leaguers next year. Plus getting the opportunity to sign the biggest free agent of the year would be lucky.
  11. If 18.5% of your games isn't a large amount, then why are you whining about the 1.9% difference that occurs when you face a rival twice and a division opponent does not?
  12. 2 HR and 2 triples at home, 1 double on the road.
  13. Because throwing 50 pitches in 2 innings isn't the same as throwing 50 over 3-4. If you are trying to stretch a guy out, you want him sitting down between innings, coming back out and still throwing. You want him warming up every inning and training his bodies for what actually happens in a 9 inning game rather than going out there and racking up a high pitch count early. He's a young high school draftee, there's nothing wrong with having him pitch 2 months in A ball. There's no reason to bump him based on 15 innings.
  14. I don't even know what "do it all the way" means here. Interleague is small portion of the schedule. It works that way. I see no reason to have it take up so much of the season. And I see no reason why everybody in a division has to have a perfectly matched schedule. less than 20% of the season is not that much. No, it's a whole bunch.
  15. In general, the front of the 1b line seating, down to RF, gets more sun. Along the 3B line you get more direct sunlight but as it travels west that is the side that gets shady earlier. But if you are too far back on the 1b side you may not see any sun all day.
  16. Maybe sveum wants to give him a little chance to do something before they marlon byrd him.

  18. That's 30 games a season against teams you're not competing against. so? It's double what they do now, and unnecessary.
  19. I like the idea of matching up based on last year's standings (including how the playoffs ended), so that the previous World Series matchup occurs every year, plus the LCS losers, etc. Try and play that World Series matchup early just after the opening day hype dies down. And play the bottom rung matchups late to prevent too many complaints about interleague series determining penant races in September.
  20. We're at least feeling bloated, if not good. I can't imagine any reason to bring in another.
  21. And with over 1800 PA of mediocrity in professional baseball it is impossible to justify your irrational support of the guy's prospect status. But you do it anyway.
  22. I recall it has a very slow start, he started to heat up a little, took another step back and then had a huge 3-4 day period after which he was promoted. It seemed at the time like they were just desperately waiting for an excuse to promote him.
  23. That RF portion of the bleachers was practially devoid of seating to begin with. I doubt it took away much capacity, if at all.
  24. He was terrible, then had a huge weekend and was promoted. It was bizarre. That was the Daytona to Tennessee promotion, wasn't it? He had nearly 300 PAs with a .316/.351/.535/.886 line at Peoria when promoted. It's goony being goony. Vitters got off to a slow start at Peoria, then was doing okay until he had a huge 10 day stretch that brought his numbers up to that .886 line. But he got in a solid half season at Peoria before being promoted. His numbers were pretty poor until he went on a tear over a weekend. It's not goony being goony, it's goony not being blind to Vitters glaring weaknesses and mediocre professional career.
