  1. Not really, he'll just start a day later.
  2. I don't think there is a requirement that he be fundamentally sound, intelligent and smooth in 5 weeks or 5 months. How about just competent?
  3. last I heard he's not pitching until Friday. That's what ESPN says with their projected starters. I was hoping it was wrong. I don't understand why being sick on Saturday (and telling reporters he felt fine later) would cause him to need 12 days between starts. It would seem to me there are other guys they'd like to skip or bump to get Garza in there again.
  4. I don't think it's "cool", but it very clearly is old school. It's something they've always done and something all "old schoolers" want younger guys to do.
  5. It's not really that your rates are unrealistic, it's that it is a pointless endeavor. The Cubs are a very flawed team with very flawed players, one of which is Carlos Marmol, who regularly implodes and gives away a win with walks. The bullpen in general is filled with has beens and nobodies, along with a relatively decent arm or two. Hey, imagine if LaHair wasn't hitting like a god amongst men right now. The Cubs would probably have lost more games. Isn't it reasonable to expect Bryan LaHair not to OPS 1500 or whatever the hell it is right now?
  6. Leaving a venue with Philly fans after a loss just does not get old.
  7. Curious, what would qualify as a doom and gloom person right now? Watching wood walk the leadoff hitter and give up 2 runs in the 8th is going to bring out a few negative thoughts in anybody.
  8. It's probably a 90 loss team, what does it really matter? He's taking the spot of someone who could contribute in a few years doubtful. But even if he is, there's probably just as much value, if not more, in keeping that imaginary player in the minors. Relievers lose value in a hurry once you start to have to pay them.
  9. He just tweeted that.
  10. bruce says that was the first PH HR of the year for cubs
  11. Taking a shot at RF is limiting yourself for the sole purpose of a stupid sacrifice with the pitcher coming up next leaving the most likely situation 2 outs with a man on 3rd for the leadoff hitter. You take your best hack in that situation.
  12. this inning completely changes for the better if Geo grounded out to 2nd instead of 3rd.
  13. You want him to sacrifice the guy over for the pitcher to drive him in? Umm, no. I would like Geo to go opposite field in that situation and at least try and get him over. It opens up the squeeze possibility at the very least. So you wanted him to sacrifice the guy over for the pitcher to drive him in. That's what you are asking for here with that nonsensical "team approach" BS. You don't do such a thing. You try and drive the guy in yourself, because the pitcher is almost certainly a K, and if all else fails you still have a man in scoring position for the leadoff hitter.
  14. You want him to sacrifice the guy over for the pitcher to drive him in?
  15. 16. That's the most frustrating part? Marmol can't throw strikes. Don't put this on Soto.
  17. Managers leaving a struggling pitcher in to get the win is much less of an issue than the stupidity that is involved with the save stat.
  18. there's an argument to be made. I mean the argument would be idiotic and only made by an idiot, but it's there to be made for sure
  19. Where's Joba when you need him?
  20. Stuck? He was a set-up man for a year and a half. And he probably had his best season in that one full year as a set-up man.
