  1. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH, that is not a thing!!!!!! I hated when everybody decided they had to describe Derosa that way. You are a utility player if you can't be a starter but can play multiple positions. There is not such thing as a "super utility" guy.
  2. South Korea doesn't have much organized baseball for teenagers?
  3. the position the guy played in college, traditionally behind the QB and in front of the tailback. As for Winslow, am I wrong in thinking this guy kind of disappeared since his breakout season?
  4. They drafted a fullback who is going to try and play tight end.
  5. Elaborate if you would. Because you're totally right, but I'm curious what you've noticed specifically. I haven't taken inventory or anything but just a whole lot of talk about spirit and guttiness carrying the day plus choking and things like missed opportunities weighing on teams and players for the rest of the game. Every positive play is described as a gutsy or brave display of character rather than just a really talented futbol player making a good play.
  6. I've really enjoyed the last few weeks of futbol viewing, but man, it really amazes me how much unchecked meatballism and conventional wisdom style nonsense gets thrown into every discussion about the sport.
  7. If he gets extremely hot during that stretch I would suggest that, in and of itself, is quite a bit of upside. Sure, ideally you keep him down there to put off the future cost, but if he does come up earlier, it's not like its going to be a damaging financial setback to the team. Also, stemming the bleeding of fan interest this summer will have its own value. Odds are you can call him up for 2 weeks and send him back down and everything will be essentially the same. Maybe he gets incredibly hot and you can't sent him back, but so be it.
  8. Bud Norris looks to tame the beast that is the 2012 Chicago Cubs lineup. Garza looks to figure out how to throw to first base. edit: Win, lose, or draw..... SosaMVP21 gets his regular turn tomorrow. woah woah woah, who is attributing their words to me?
  9. LaHair has a sub 500 OPS in his last 7 and sub 700 in his last 14. It could be helpful to sit him a little bit to keep his overall numbers high and maybe have some guys lose track of how he's been pitched the past couple weeks.
  10. \ Why bother? This season is a lost cause anyways. Let him stay down in Iowa until they can be sure he will be under control for another year and call him up. Sure, but if the manager wants DH flexibility and people want to see the guy, you can call him up the day they go to MIN, let him stay around for the DET/BOS home series and then send him back down after the WS series. It's 13 days of service, a little taste of Wrigley in the summer, and when interleague is done you still have the excuse of no room for the guy.
  11. Honestly, I'm not sure how these get included as intriguing. A guy who could fill AA/AAA utility roles?
  12. Can't they just call him up for the 6 games where they would need a DH and send him back again?
  13. yeah, no. Oh ok. Thanks for your valued input. Seriously, that's not a very likely theory.
  14. And I don't think he thought this team was going to be on pace to lose 100 games. he probably thought they could be respectable and he thought he could be as well, but the team sucks and he's sucked so he lost his desire to continue
  15. I don't think he saw this team being so bad so early. There was still hope at the time they brought him back that they would actually go out and bring in players to help the team. But they are winning less than 40% of their games and he's been terrible, so I think that plays a part. Respect your opinion, but will have to totally disagree. I'm quite certain he knew the team wasn't going to be good, and no, there wasn't much hope that when he signed that they were going to bring in players to help considering it was already the middle of January. there were still players out there to be signed
  16. It absolutely would not be stupid. Freaking out about it would be though.
  17. soto, volstad and wood are gone lalli is up travis wood probably shouldn't be activated until the day he starts, that leaves 2 spots to fill by tomorrow, no?
  18. http://www.mycubstoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/chicago-cubs-boston-red-sox-anthony-rizzo-san-diego-padres2.jpg looks the same
  19. they've talked about his arm being held on by a thread ever since the last comeback, so it may be true
  20. I don't think he saw this team being so bad so early. There was still hope at the time they brought him back that they would actually go out and bring in players to help the team. But they are winning less than 40% of their games and he's been terrible, so I think that plays a part.
  21. cubs are back on pace to lose 99.7 games
  22. That's what stark indicated...they are probably going to do a rivalry week where everyone matches up with their natural rivals and do the 2 and 2 thing. Obviously there are some teams that lack natural rivals so they will be screwed. Not sure if it will actually be Mariners and Padres since they are so far apart, but I can't think of any other team except maybe Colorado who they could play that's closer (and I'm pretty sure Denver is still just as far away as SD) You can't really do the rivalry week thing because you have to spread everybody's IL games over the entire season.
  23. There has to be something going on that we don't know about. My guess is he has been dealing with a lot more arm/shoulder pain than he is willing to let on. I'm guessing it has to do with being bad and being on a bad team.
  24. the only cubs prospect to come up looking like a super star in the making who actually was a super star for a prolonged period, and he was tied to the greatest cubs moment any of us ever saw, winning a playoff series
